Sylvain Loosliis a relatively unknown poker player living in France. His only live tournament cash prior to the 2013 WSOP Main Event came in January 2011 in EPT Deauville, with a 24th place finish for 2,350 Euros. Despite his lack of previous live tournament success, Loosli found himself in a great position going into Day 6 of the 2013 WSOP Main Event with 5,690,000 in chips, which was good enough for sixth place with 68 players remaining to start the day. He ultimately took fourth place for $2.7 million.

Loosli was in the middle of the pack to start Day 5 before making a nice run throughout the day. With the blinds at 8,000/16,000, Loosli got involved in a big pot with end-of-Day 5 chip leader Sami Rustom. Rustom min-raised to 32,000 from early position, which Loosli, sitting to his left, 3bet to a relatively bet of 122,000. With everyone else on the table folding, Rustom called to see a flop of 7-3-3.

Rustom check-raised to 300,000 chips after Loosli fired out continuation bet of 125,000 on this relatively harmless board. A little controversy ensued when Loosli, showing some inexperience, slid out three chip stacks of different colors. Rustom asked for a count and, after he was told it was 280,000 chips, he informed the dealer it was a string bet.

The dealer called out a floor person who confirmed this was a string bet, which effectively reduced the turn bet to 170,000. Rustom protested and thought the bet amount should be less and eventually folded his hand, leading Loosli to show disgust.

Later in the day with the blinds at 10,000/20,000, Loosli min-raised to 40,000 chips under the gun and was 3bet by Byron Kaverman to 95,000 in the cutoff. Loosli then fired out a 4bet to 250,000, which Kaverman called. On a fairly dry flop of Jc-Td-3s, Loosli continued by betting 250,000, which, after some deliberation, Kaverman called. After the 5d came on the turn, Loosli fired out a bet of 450,000, which, after tanking again, Kaverman this time folded, shipping a nice pot over to Loosli.
