Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby is the first player to win a Triple Crown from the U.S. since November of last year. Moorman1, dmmikkel, Andy McLEOD and Annette_15 all put their access to Party and Paradise to good use in their wins, but Jared claimed his crown with wins on Bodog, Pokerstars, and UltimateBet. <READMORE>

This may not be the first time it has been done, but the first thing that stands out about this Triple Crown is the fact that he took it down in three straight days: Wednesday, UB Bounty 1st for $7,650, Thursday Stars $100r for $17,700, Friday Bodog $30r 10k guaranteed for $3000. One thing is for sure, TheWacoKidd does not mess around.

The three wins total $28,350, which is not a bad haul for three days work. TheWacoKidd was due for a big score on Stars, where he has been running very very bad for a while now. “The $100 rebuy has been taking years off my life over the past few months with sick beats at key times,” he said about the breakthrough. Waco has not slowed down over the weekend. He final tabled the Absolute 150k guranteed on Saturday, in only his second time playing the tournament. Although he fell a bit short, going out in 7th place, it was still worth 5k. He also went deep in the Full Tilt 40k on Saturday, but bubbled the final table. Perhaps the heater is cooling off a bit, but then again, perhaps he is just working up some steam for a huge Sunday score.

Before discovering MTTs, Waco was a limit pro. He built his roll playing mostly 10/20 and 15/30 on Party and still plays 30/60 online and up to 100/200 live on occasion. He has converted wholeheartedly to tournament play in the past year. “In November of ’05 I randomly decided to play a MTT because I was down almost 20k in 30/60 and a bad run of sports bets. Somehow I won, and I was hooked,” Waco says of his introduction to the tournament scene. He had just recently joined Pocketfives, and “didn’t know anything about tournament strategy until I started reading the boards.” It didn’t take him long to figure things out, however as he quickly rose from tournament newbie to Pocketfives.com ranked player.

TheWacoKidd is very well known to Pocketfives, and he is equally respected for his poker talents and his RoShambo abilities. A regular contributor to both the Poker Discussion forum and the Off Topic community, Waco is an example of a Poker Pro enjoying all of the freedoms that his career offers. He currently resides in Henderson Nevada, where he owns his own house and makes regular use of all that the City of Sin has to offer. CrazyMarco, another very talented internet pro and Pocketfives Ranked player, rents a room from Waco, as does a buddy from back home in Texas. That house is guaranteed to be a fun place to live.

A casual observer might see Waco as another young punk flashing cash and wasting his money on games of chance and partying. Well, he does have a penchant for craps and Waco is always up for a good time, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Not only does Jared Hamby own his own house, he invests his money very aggressively. “I keep a decent amount online for tourneys, 2-5k on each site. I cash out the rest when I win. I have about 80% of my net worth invested.” The cash he might casually throw down on a hard six or double down on an 8 is just mad money. Bankroll management is not just a matter of playing at stakes that are comfortable for you, much more important for the Poker Pro is managing his or her winnings. In an industry that you can literally work for weeks and lose money, you have to be ultra-smart in how you manage your money. Once responsible investing becomes second nature, however you are entitled to do whatever you want with what’s left over. TheWacoKidd is a very good example of how to do just that.

Jared Hamby is a cinch to find in a live tournament with his trademark green hat, and that has made him one of the most covered P5ers at live tourneys. The OT crowd is always willing to come out and support each other for online FTs, and while PocketfivesLive does not yet offer Live Chat for the virtual rail, rest assured that OT is following when Waco is playing live. Last summer in only his second live tournament Jared Hamby took 10k in Black Jack winnings and bought into the WSOP Main Event. He finished in the top 10% of the field, and turned a nice little profit on his entry. He improved on that showing recently, finishing 8th at the LAPC in a $2500 event. Look for Jared to make some noise this summer at the World Series. Pocketfives will be there, and the fans at home will have one of their favorites to root for. </READMORE>
