This week on the
PocketFives.com Podcast, we welcome 2010
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure runner-up Ty
dabears87 Reiman. The man known as
puffinmypurp on PokerStars currently owns the 76th spot in the PocketFives.com
Online Poker Rankings and collected a cool $1.75 million for his efforts in the Bahamas. He’s fresh off an eighth place showing in the World Poker Tour’s (WPT)
Hollywood Poker Open and sat down with PocketFives.com to recap his career.

The 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure marked Reiman’s watershed live poker tournament. He finished as the runner-up to Harrison
gibler123 Gimbel (pictured at left) in the first ever North American Poker Tour (NAPT) event and told the PocketFives.com Podcast about his travel schedule leading up to the $10,000 buy-in tournament: “I was in Florida the week before on a family vacation, so I went right from Florida to the Bahamas. I think I arrived the day before the tournament started. It was my third year there, so I knew what to expect. I still can’t believe it happened. I’m kind of speechless.”
In 2007, Reiman took down a $1,000
Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) event in Verona for $51,000. He described his second place showing on the sunny isle three years later “pretty indescribable,” but added, “Aside from the money, I still feel like I need to win a tournament. I really wanted to win and I was pretty beat up over it after losing the heads-up match. Harrison Gimbel played a great heads-up match and I give him all of the credit in the world.” Gimbel took home $2.2 million for the win.
Despite his seven-figure payday, Reiman told the PocketFives.com Podcast that he has yet to be able to reap its benefits due to a
cashout issue with PokerStars: “I still in limbo with PokerStars trying to get the money off through a wire. They’ve been yanking my chain around on this thing for a month, so I still haven’t gotten the money yet. I’m not sure when I’m going to get it and if I do get it, I’m not sure what I’m going to buy.” PokerStars is the world’s largest online poker site and operates live tournaments throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Reiman is one of a handful of top-tier online poker pros who hail from the state of Illinois. The cast includes Faraz
The-Toilet Jaka (pictured at left), Andy
BKiCe Seth, Ravi
govshark2 Raghavan, Kevin
BeL0WaB0Ve Saul, Mohsin
chicagocards1 Charania, and
greenerbels1. Reiman outlined how several members of the group are connected: “I pretty much owe all of my success to Faraz and Andy. When Faraz took me under his wings, Faraz, Andy, and Ben
chong94 LeFew were living together. I would go over there on a daily basis and sit down to watch them all play. At the same time I was learning, I was actually rooming with greenerbells1.” The Illinois contingent has become one of the most skilled in all of poker.

Reiman narrowly missed out on making the final table of the WPT Hollywood Poker Open.
Full Tilt Poker pro
Carlos Mortensen became the WPT’s all-time money leader after winning the event for $393,000 and finishing tops among the online poker community was Frank
Frank1The1Tank Calo (pictured at right), who took third. Reiman gave his take on the WPT’s first Midwestern event: “I thought it was a nice tournament and a pretty small turnout. I talked to the guy who ran the tournament, who said that they didn’t get approval to run satellites until two weeks before. Now that they have approval, the field should be two to three times what it was.”
