The online poker community witnessed quite a feat in the past two weeks. After taking down four out of the first five events of the UltimateBet Online Championship, P5ers were victorious in the last two events, bringing our total victories to six out of ten UBOC events. UltimateBet kicked in an extra $2,500 for any PocketFiver who won a UBOC event, meaning the site provided an extra $15,000 to our winners. Event 9 saw indarvia (pictured above) take down the $100,000 guaranteed HORSE tournament for $26,000. “I have to admit, it is really nice to nail one. It certainly isn’t the largest cash in the history of poker, but it is my largest!” He talks about play at the final table for the HORSE event: “At the start of the final table I made a deliberate decision to avoid larger stacks, and to actually sit back and wait for big hands, as my stack wasn’t large. I noticed the blinds were getting very big quickly and that play would be fast and furious.” After being very low on chips with 18 players to go, indarvia battled back and another PocketFiver took home a silver bracelet. “If I was going to ‘gamble,’ it was going to be against a smaller stack to limit risk to my stack and hopefully knock out a player.”
In the $1 million guaranteed Main Event, t soprano (pictured at left), playing under the name "maria nuccia," chopped heads up. He and Fred420 played on for the bracelet, which t soprano eventually captured. He chopped this $530 event for $168,000. Regarding the even heads up chop: “I was really running him over and I definitely had a lot of momentum. I had never heard of UB chopping a tourney before so I shrugged it off when he first mentioned it. Phil Hellmuth said on the webcast that they could accommodate it if we decided to do an even chop, so I decided to think it over. I was on the fence, but in the heat of the moment, I decided to lock up the $168,000 win.” He was thrilled to have support of PocketFivers and to win a Sunday tournament: “A big Sunday win is what every online player dreams of, so of course I feel blessed to win one of this size. What makes it extra special, besides being bigger than the Sunday Million on Pokerstars this week, was that I got to hear Phil Hellmuth praise my play.”
Also finishing near the top of the Main Event field were PMJackson21 (pictured at right), who took home third place and $87,500, as well as A__theKevlar__2, who finished fourth for $65,500. Rounding out the PocketFives.com contingent in the top ten were breitling996, who finished sixth, and toetagu, who ended up in eighth. These two cashed for $42,000 and $22,500, respectively.UltimateBet agreed to pony up an extra $2,500 to any PocketFiver that won a UBOC event. The six wins in ten events means UB kicked in an extra $15,000. A special thanks to UltimateBet for providing this excellent tournament series, which generated considerable buzz on PocketFives.com. Congratulations to all PocketFivers who played in these events.
