On Monday, the UK’s best and brightest poker players gathered for the 2014 British Poker Awardsat London’s Hippodrome Casino, where former PokerStars pro Victoria Coren Mitchell scooped up three of the prestigious accolades.

Coren, who is also a popular columnist and presenter, took the awards for Best Social Media User, Poker Personality of the Year and Performance of the Year.

“Vicky has been one of the trendsetters in poker for years, and her success in 2014 was fantastic to see,” said Bluff Europe Magazine Editor-in-chief Michael Caselli. “It was an honour to recognise UK poker’s leading lights at a fantastic venue like the Hippodrome, and we would like to offer special thanks to our sponsors Unibet and RankingHero.com, and to everyone who came along to make the event so memorable,” he added.

With 23,000 tweets to her 279,000 Twitter followers, Coren Mitchell’s award for Best Social Media User comes as no surprise. On top of her Twitter presence, the poker pro runs a popular blog, where she frequently posts on issues related to the game. But social media is only one facet to Coren Mitchell’s online footprint; she is also an accomplished columnist who has written for widely-read publications like The Guardian, the Observer and GQ.

Coren Mitchell’s next award, for Best Poker Performance of the Year, was a product of her outstanding achievement in becoming the first person to win two European Poker Tour Main Events. The 42-year-old took down the EPT London Main Event in 2006, then bested the field again in the EPT San Remo Main Event in April 2014.

After the awards ceremony, Coren Mitchell took to her Twitter account and posted a picture of the three awards. “Look at that! Three times as many awards as Eddie Redmayne. (If anyone asks, I’m wearing T.J. Maxx)” she quipped.

Her third award, for Best Poker Personality, is no doubt due to her outspoken and passionate views of the game. Earlier this month, Coren Mitchell gave PokerNews her thoughts on the men who play in ladies events. “All over the world, you are not supposed to discriminate on gender or age, but I would say that [the tournaments are]a bit of fun and the men who played ladies tournaments, whether those are in Las Vegas or anywhere else, they are not making an important political point. They are just being greedy.”

Aside from winning her second EP Tour event in 2014, Coren Mitchell also made headlines for her decision to cut ties with former sponsor PokerStars, who announced last year that it would offer casino table games along with its poker product. Coren Mitchell said that she could not continue to represent the brand and promote games, like blackjack and roulette, where the house always had the edge.

“I cannot professionally and publicly endorse it, even passably by silence with my name still over the shop,” she wrote in a farewell messageon her blog. “Poker is the game I love, poker is what I signed up to promote.”

Other big winners at the British Poker Awards included Chris Moorman, who was awarded the title of Best Online Player, along with Players’ Player of the Year. Moorman cashed for just over $1 million in tournaments in 2014, putting his total recorded tournament winnings at $4,031,601.

Best Breakout Player and Best Live Poker Player went to Simon Deadman, who pocketed $1,163,131 from live tournaments last year, winning the Hollywood Poker Open Championship and making the final table of others.
