Daniel Negreanu won his first WCOOP title on Saturday (PokerStars photo)

Daniel Negreanu has seemingly done it all in his Hall of Fame career. He’s won World Series of Poker bracelets and World Poker Tour titles. But on Saturday night Negreanu added one title to his resume that had eluded him to date when he beat Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom for his first World Championship of Online Poker title. Negreanu outlasted the 147-player field to win the $1,050 HORSE Championship and $61,865.47.

Negreanu certainly didn’t have it easy. He beat out a final table that included Blom, Mike Leah and Connor Drinan.

PAW717’ came into the final table of Event #68, $320 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha, with the second biggest stack and eventually found himself heads-up for the title with ‘QuantumX90’ before the two players started talking chop. After coming to an agreement that left a little less than $5,000 on the table to play for. After a brief heads-up battle that saw ‘PAW717’ double-up early, the Mexico-based American emerged victorious to win the first WCOOP title of his career.

Last Tuesday, while Doug Polk was busy smashing Twitch records for the biggest live-streamed poker win ever, ‘bob43155’ was quietly in the background, winning the Sunday Million Special Edition event for over $400,000. And while Negreanu was the big name winning on Saturday, ‘bob43155’ managed to do something noteworthy again. ‘bob43155’ won Event #69, $700 Six Max No Limit Hold’em (Five Stack), to become the first two-time WCOOP winner this year and add another $64,081.78 in winnings. Runner-up Erik ‘Popiedejopie’ van den Berg actually ended up walking away with a little bit more than the winner as a result of a deal the final three players made while van de Berg held the chip lead.

Ludovic ‘ludovi333’ Geilich managed to book the biggest score of anybody on Saturday. Geilich took down the $21,000 Pot Limit Omaha High Roller to win $462,182.17. Fabrizio ‘SixthSenSe19’ Gonzalez narrowly missed winning his second WCOOP title of the year, finishing runner-up for $355,730.97. Not surprisingly, the final table was filled by some of the best players in the world. Jens Kyllonen finished third, Dani Stern was right behind him in fourth and Drinan, making his second final table of the day, came fifth. Dimitri ‘MITS 304’ Michaelides, who won a WCOOP event earlier this week, finished sixth.

The second place finish all but guarantees that Gonzalez will win WCOOP Player of the Series. The Uruguayan grinder has cashed 21 times during the 2016 WCOOP, made four final tables and posted a win, a second, a third and a fourth place finish.
