It’s almost 2014. In just a week-and-a-half, we’ll be turning the page on 2013 and entering a brand new year. Around the poker world, a new year means big live tournaments like the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and Aussie Millions as well as a new chance to make your mark on the poker world. Members of PocketFives readily discussed their 2014 poker goals in a Poker Community thread.

The original poster in the thread, who calls the United Kingdom home, wrote a list of goals for the forthcoming 12 months: “Two hand history sessions a week, top 800 in the PocketFives Rankings, hit the $500K badge, drop tables to stop missing so many spots, a Triple Crown, $60K+ profit, final table a live tourney like the UKIPT, final table a major on a Sunday, and get better at poker.”

Hitting Supernova Elite on PokerStarswas a popular aspiration, as was success in offline events. One poster from New Jersey, which saw the launch of legalized and regulated internet gambling in November, told the New Jersey poker community that his goal was to “satty into major live tournaments via the New Jersey websites. Of course, then I would have to learn how to actually play live.”

Heading out of the United States was also a popular response, although reasons for it varied. Take one Floridian who wrote, “To find a place to live outside of the US so I can play on PokerStars and Full Tilt again.” A PocketFiver from the Land of 1,000 Lakes added, “Move somewhere tropical with my family to play after Full Tilt Poker pays.”

A Texan also mentioned moving abroad, writing in the 2014 goals thread, “Emigrate in March, play at least 700 MTTs per month on PokerStars and Full Tilt, earn a $250K badge, and maintain my newfound stoicism for bad beats.”

UK players continued to weigh in on what they wanted to accomplish in poker next year. A player from Chester wrote, “Win a few tourneys including live events I enter, get above the $1K career cashes on here, enjoy the game, and make as much money from the game as possible using good bankroll management.”

Finally, it’s only fitting that we wrap up our article with another set of goals from a UK player. How many of these do you match? “Study a lot more hand histories a week with a group and on my own, final table a major on a Euro site, game select better, beat dl184 in every single aspect of the game, stop reading ronnie’s threads, stop being a punter in live MTTs, and make an attempt to get on own dime by this time in 2014.”
