Last month, Grayson Gray31Ramage (pictured) made not one, but two Sunday Major final tables on the same day. He finished third in the Full Tilt Sunday Majorfor $21,000 and followed that up by finishing ninth in the PokerStars Sunday $109 Rebuy for another $4,000. A total of $25,000 later, it was a productive Sunday for the poker refugee now camped out in Costa Rica.

“I was feeling a lot better after the Full Tilt Sunday Major,” Ramage told PocketFives in an exclusive interview. “Recently, I’ve had a lot of runs that ended up like my ninth place finish in the $100 Rebuy, close to the big money but not quite there. Winning is always more fun, of course, and definitely the goal, but third place felt pretty good after a string of tournaments where I got to the final two or three tables.”

The Sunday Major had a gauntlet of talent at its final table, including former #3 ranked breeth from Hungary, who was the runner-up. We asked Ramage for a scouting report on the longtime PocketFives member: “breeth is a tough opponent, but nowadays especially, there will usually be quite a few good players at every big final table. Fortunately, I had position on him.”

In February, Ramage hit $5 million in tracked online tournament winnings. He currently stands at $5.1 million and is averaging a brisk $1,900 per in the money finish. He said of the award, “I was close to the $5 million mark for a while and it took a little longer than I would have liked to get the last $100,000 or so, but it did feel good to finally get there.” He is one of only eight PocketFivers to get their $5 million cash badge this year.

Now that we’re five months into 2015, we wanted to talk about poker goals for the rest of the year with Ramage. He didn’t identify anything specifically, instead telling us, “I don’t usually set any specific poker goals for the year since short-term income can be so variable in MTTs. My main goal is to be focused and play my best poker whenever I am at the tables live or online.”

We’re also three weeks away from the start of the annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Ramage has $620,000 in career WSOP winnings, including a 35th place in the 2009 Main Event and an 80th place in 2013. He’s planning to head out to Vegas for two weeks in June and then will return for the Main Event. He said, “I’m getting there right before the Millionaire Maker and plan on playing every No Limit Hold’em tournament on the schedule for the following two weeks.”

The $1,500 buy-in Millionaire Maker was quite a spectacle last year. The tournament had almost 8,000 entrants and Jonathan Dimmig came away with the win for $1.3 million. “It’s crazy how big the Millionaire Maker andMonster Stack got last year,” he told us. “I think the best strategy in those is to play fairly tight early. There are so many good spots and people are ready to give away their chips. I generally play solid throughout and take advantage of spots as they come up.”

Outside of poker, Ramage is a fan of biking, playing basketball, and reading. His largest career poker score came online last year after winning the WCOOP Challenge Main Event for $502,000. He finished second in a High Roller Event on PokerStars in 2011 for $289,000 and won an FTOPS jersey in 2012.
