Last weekend’s PokerStars Sunday Millionfeatured a field of 7,133 entrants and paydays of at least $50,000 to over half the final table. Taking fourth place in the weekly blockbuster was Jase SSSMforlife Regina (pictured), who earned $75,000, bringing his career total to over $1.1 million. We sat down with the 70th ranked player worldwide and the #6 player in Ontario, Canada to talk about his big afternoon.

PocketFives: How are you feeling about final tabling the Sunday Million?

Jase Regina: It feels good for sure, a little bit surreal too. I’ve been playing MTTs for a long time and you always dream about final tabling the Sunday Million.

PocketFives: This was the largest cash we’ve tracked for you by a factor of three. Do you have any plans for the money?

Jase Regina: No big plans yet. Just going to do some shopping and maybe upgrade my grind station. I’ll probably take a trip somewhere in the next few months, not sure where though.

PocketFives: Do you play the Million every week? What’s your general approach to it?

Jase Regina: I miss it here and there, but yeah, I’ve played it almost every week for a couple of years. I try to play my best. I don’t make any real adjustments, although it does get fairly shallow by the end of the tournament, so you have to be prepared to get your stack in.

PocketFives: Can you talk about the play of Rob rtinnionTinnion, who won?

Jase Regina: I don’t know much about him, but he seems like a good player for sure. He’s really aggressive and was using that to his advantage at the final table by three-betting a lot and putting pressure on other guys. Well played by him and congrats to him for winning.

PocketFives: How did you get started in poker?

Jase Regina: I started playing with my friends during my last year of high school and got pretty into it. This was just after the poker boom when Chris Moneymaker won the Main Event. It was a similar story to a lot of others for sure.

PocketFives: What about the game was appealing? What were you doing before you played full-time?

Jase Regina: I’ve always been into games and competing. So, I love the competition aspect of poker and trying to outsmart and outplay your opponents. I only started playing full-time about three years ago. Before that, I didn’t really do anything that interesting. I went to university for a bit, but I’ve never really known what I’ve wanted to do for a career, so I wasn’t really motivated and dropped out my second year. I worked a number of odd jobs to get by, mostly manual labor-type stuff.

PocketFives: What do you do away from poker?

Jase Regina: I’m really into snowboarding and just got into skateboarding again last year. I love the freedom you get from cruising around and having fun riding either one. It forces you to exist in the moment and push yourself to new limits. Other than that, I like spending time with friends and family and trying to keep a smile on my face.
