With around 50 players remaining in the Sunday Brawl, Huber shoved with A-Q for 15 big blinds and outlasted both pocket sixes and pocket kings. Two hands later, he was making moves up the leaderboard once again, this time with pocket kings against A-Q. Winning that pot propelled him into sixth place and he never relinquished. Huber told PocketFives.com, “I was one of the chip leaders when we got to the final table, but was card dead the whole time and couldn’t really open light because of a huge donkey to my left who flatted 80% of his range.”
The $72,000 score marked Huber’s largest payday in an online poker tournament to date. He explained, “I came in on one of my biggest downswings ever, so it’s pretty awesome. I set a goal at the beginning of the year that I would take home a six-figure score, but I’m happy with the $72,000.” Other top-notch online poker cashes for the Switzerland native include a $37,000 haul for winning the PokerStars $55 rebuy in October. One month earlier, he took down the same event for $14,000. In November, he racked up $85,000 in tournaments that are tracked for the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings.
By the time the Sunday Brawl wrapped up, it was 6:00am in Huber’s world and, despite the late hour, he began partying with his roommates. He told PocketFives.com how he got started in the game: “Like most, I watched it on television about three years ago and there was a German strategy site where you could answer some questions and get $50 for free. I started to grind some micro-MTTs and had never heard of the words ‘bankroll management,’ so I lost it all in a few days.”
In August of 2008, he final tabled the PokerStars Sunday Million and began to take poker much more seriously. He remains a full-time student and commented on how his friends and family reacted to his newfound passion: “Since August, I’ve only been playing on Wednesdays and Sundays because of school and my girlfriend. My parents were skeptical at first, but now they are very supportive and my closest friends didn’t even know that I played online poker until I told them a few months ago.”
