Got That Work

I took my mom to the zoo one day in Seattle. We were chilling at a bus stop.

I heard that phrase. I always liked it.

The greatest gift you can give a man is a living. We all need an opportunity to provide for ourselves and our loved ones through our own created work. That takes us back to the hunt. We’re killing. We’re getting the meat to feed our children. We’re on our grind. We’re taking care of what’s ours.

Working for someone else is fine, but it’s living off another man’s hunt. It’s not our own. That doesn’t feel good.

When it really doesn’t feel good, that’s when drugs, alcohol, abyss sex, pride, and slander feel their best.

It’s easier. It dulls the pressing thoughts. It’s immediate. It’s all-encompassing.

Even when you come home from the successful hunt the meat is just going to get eaten by your family again. You need a restlessness to get back out there the next morning. Without that restlessness your ancestors would have died. You should thank God for it, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.

You’re supposed to only have a cautious contentment. That helps you build.

You disconnect from that and you’ve denied what makes you a man. Try and live with a mind and morality crafted by instant gratification. You’ll feel as dead as you look. You’ll be as empty as your laugh.

If your thoughts consume you, if your mind buzzes constantly with an irritating need to think, then connect it all. Anything that will truly focus your mind will become a real weapon.

Only through study can a man truly free his mind.
