I’ve recently committed to writing more regular blogs. Sales go way up when I’m blogging constantly. I also just really enjoy writing, especially about myself. Thus, it behooves me to go “look at me! Look at me!” in social media like a jackass.

One of the things I enjoyed about having a public voice is giving some props to an artist who I feel deserves it.

The Snowgoons are that artist today. Snowgoons are a group of DJs from Germany who have been making amazing underground hip hop albums for years. Their members seem to have an affinity for the epic, frequently combining dramatic orchestra scores with ridiculously well-chosen samples. They also show an appreciation for old-school hip hop and American cinema in their arrangements.

What I like about them most is they really show a love for metal and darker themes in general. Their albums are consistently the heaviest hip hop albums I’ve ever heard. The fact they get some of the best verses from the premiere underground emcees in the USA only complements their dynamic and aggressive style.

They recently released their fifth album, entitled “Snowgoods Dynasty”. While I’m still more partial to their earlier work this mammoth 2-disc set contains some real bangers, and really deserves the notice of all hip hop heads.

The first track that really hit me on Dynasty was “Cardiac Rhythm” featuring ridiculously talented New York emcee Sean Strange. The cinematic intro feeds into a cut that hits harder than a sledgehammer. Sean Strange deserves mad props for his delivery and writing. Many of the lines can be interpreted differently. Its obvious he puts a lot of thought into this.

The ending track on the first CD is sick as well. More politically outspoken emcees Revolution Of The Mind and Sabac Red team up on a beat that could only make you elevate. Love how well the two work together.

One of the great parts of every Snowgoons release is up-and-coming emcees taking advantage of their Snowgoons feature with some of their best verses. Case in point, Eshon Burgundy spins a powerful tale here of a kid surrounded by the crack game searching for God.

On the flip side not every emcee uses the dirty beats Snowgoons provide for positive lyricism. On this disgustingly brutal track Joell Ortiz, O Doub, Bundy, and Codey take you to hell on Earth. It’s real life verses like this coupled with concussion-inducing Snowgoons beats that make for the German DJs most powerful statements.

The final track I’ll post as a preview of Snowgoons Dynasty is probably the most vivid I’ve heard in a song over the last year. BAM destroys the beat with his storytelling. It’s hard to explain. You just have to hear it.

As you can tell by the cuts I posted links to, I have a love for the darker side of the Snowgoons. I like their heavy metal hip hop. Snowgoons Dynasty does feature a number of more traditional hip hop tracks if that’s what you’re into. The double album is great to grind to.

However, they used to put out about one album a year, and it was obvious they spent a ton of time with each track. Now they’ve attained more success they are getting more requests to do beats. As such, their own albums don’t feature their best beats of the year anymore.

I’m more nostalgic for the old albums because of this, but Dynasty is still an incredibly solid offering from the German juggernauts. I cheered for them to make more albums, so I can’t have it both ways. I’m looking forward to their upcoming CDs.
