3 final tables!

I'm trying a new thing where I only allow myself to play 8 tables, the results have been excellent. When I began the year I was trying to mass table, it wasnt working out. I probably played 250 hours in January and made like 250 dollars. When I have < 8 tables It really gives me an opportunity to focus on playing well and building stacks rather then auto piloting tourney after tourney. Tonight I was playing well/ running well and took 3rd in the 33r 6 max ( I kind of choked this one away because I took a bad beat in the 55 1r 1a ft at hte same time. I have the HH's saved so i'll go over them when i'm fresh tommorrow and see if I can find some spots I messed up/ played well. After I busted all the later stuff I had the Nightly 70 grand left, I entered a few other turbos because I was bored and entered the 75 15k gtd Turbo on Stars that starts at midnight est. I won it in June when I was in Vegas and I was lucky enough to take it down again tonight. I'm moving to Akron this weekend to go back to school which starts Monday but my goal today was to try to win a triple crown( I have been so locked in lately that I felt I could do it all in one day). The only problem is UB only has 5 or 6 10k gtd+ tourneys a day so you really have to get lucky in something to have a chance. I took 10th in the turbo 75 on UB which was my closest run of the night on UB. I plan on playing FTP/UB and some Stars for fillers and If I can win something on FTP or UB tommorrow i'm going to bust it out hard on Sat/Sund. I finally cracked the yearly top 150 on Stars and hopefully I can stay in the top 150 for the rest of the year. In 08 and 09 I finished right around 250th, 2007 I think I made the top 150 but that was massively inflated because I won the SM. I start school Mond but if i'm 2/3rds of the way there I will find time to try to get my first Triple crown. It seems that since poker is no longer the sole purpose of my life.. i'm able to just crush when I do play. I think the last 5-6 years poker has been everything to me, I've finally learned to have a life outside of poker and that has made me a better player/better person. One of my friends tonight said " screw goin back to school, you are killin it" which I replied " nah I wont do well if I dont have other things in my life". Balance is so important, do some other fun things with your life besides poker, I lost valuable social time when I was younger because of poker when I probably would have made more money if I balanced my life and did more things to improve myself as a person rather then my pokerself.

    1. nice philosophy, I think mental health is really important in today's game. ie, hellmuth (maybe bad example) + many other pros seeing sports psychologists.
    2. Wow, I love this blog. I read a lot of different poker blogs from various sources and this is one of the best things i've read for a while, and i can certainly relate.. At times i've been so wrapped up in playing / thinking about poker that it doesn't leave much space for anything else, but those times when i have found more balance in life, my poker game actually improves when playing & in general i've been happier when not playing.
Thanks man, good luck with the school & the poker!

Completely agree, I tend to think deep on alot of stuff and one of my classes this semester is actually Intro to Philosophy, so i'm curious how neurotic ill think in a few months:). Power of positive thinking and believing in yourself are soooo important.
