Day 1

By: gotzballz
Published: May 21st, 2009
Yesterday I can honestly say that I started the grind of a professional poker player. I played almost entirely $4 180 man tournement on stars. I am doing this for two reasons. One being that I need to build a bankroll on stars, and two, that I want to take this process of turning into a professional poker player slow. I have money to live on at this point, and really want to stress bankroll management. When I played semi-professionally I would often play way out my roll, often sittin down at some pretty big cash games (almost always losing, I might add.) I can't do this anymore as I need to take this more seriously. I have set a few guidelines which I would like to strictly adhere to:
1. Bankroll Management is key.
2. Every $ counts! (meaning I will not give up on any tournement, no matter what the buyin)
3. Don't be results oriented, rather focus on playing every flop, turn and river to the best of my ability.
4. Eat Healthy.
5. Workout daily.
6. Make ample time for freinds/family.
7. Respect all of my opponents.
8. And finally, PWN!
And now I begin my day 2. I am going to put in an earlier session so that I can go out with my friends if there is something going on. -Laterz

    1. Gl man!! Sounds like this is a good plan. Wish I could sit down a couple of nights and just play $4 180 sng, because it is almost free cash.. How do you do get the patience to do so? How many do you play in one session? Peace

    2. Good luck. I like your mantra. The $4.40s are profitable (I am +162 dollars for the year). The only problem with them is that you need to invest 3 hours to make it to the cash. I don't know if you are multi-tabling or not.

If you are strictly profits-oriented, I'd play more Double-or-Nothings on 'Stars. Just cash in 2 out of 3 and you have a 23% ROI. They are much easier to multi-table (i.e., you become chip leader in the latter stages and you can all but sit out and cash).
    3. good luck man, I'm just beginning to stress the bankroll management issue myself.

I would also go out of my limits, but since I started using most of the guidelines u listed above...it has amde a world of difference.
    4. Good luck hope not to see you at any of my tables in the 180s!
    5. Br management is WAY overrated. It'll take you forever to build up your roll being a BR nit. Flip for rolls imo

    6. What Nate said , ceruesly havent used BR mgmt this entire year.
    7. And Game Select well bro if your playin cash, but since you crush most tournies you play dude, not sure how much cash your playin. GL in your journey kidddd. keep killin'em man.
    8. good luck man... those $4 are greuling but hey its a start
    9. gl brother! i like everything about it
