  1. I just got back from the Bahamas a couple of hours ago and I really did not miss the weather. It was like 75 degrees this morning in Atlantis and its 25 here in NY, which is really making me anxious to go to Australia and get out of this God-forsaken climate. They were saying that in the Bahamas this was their coldest year in at least a decade, and although it was pretty miserable, rainy etc at some points I still managed to get a full body sunburn afterpassing out on the beach for 40 minutes...

Aside from the weather I have to say this about the Atlantis, I was surprised that they have a five star rating. Aside from leaks in the hallways, malfunctioning lights/AC's and shitty service (the mini-bar wasn't refilled the entire week despite like a dozen calls) and other annoying little things, the friggin internet would go out every 15 minutes for like 2-3 minutes minimum. I only played one day of online poker and the disconnect probably cost me 2-3k in value. I got timed out with QQ in the SB on 20BB's in a crucial spot in the 100r on Stars and you couldliterally tell who at your table was playing from the Atlantis because of how frequently they got timed out. The only exception were the people who had a connection to the Cove, a more luxurious tower that costs extra $ to stay in, but that is reallyfar from the rest of the casino and poker room. Overall I enjoyed my trip, but that was primarily due to the fact that I had won my seat in an FPP Satellite so it was as free a roll as it gets and I had brought two friends with me and had met and wound up hanging out with some of the best players in the world for the week I was there.

Maybe it was because of my lax attitude that I busted out in day 1 of the Main Event, when I flopped Broadway into Scotty Nguyen's 7 high flush.. gg me nh baby.. I was dissappointed as I should'vebeen but I had played just about every hand correctly, with the exception of the following two; in the first I had 30k starting stack at the 75/150 level. I open to 400 utg with AhKd get a caller in MP2 and a 3 bet to 1200 from the loosest player at the table on the button, I decide to 4bet to 3150 to get info, get heads up, rep a big hand, retake the lead and potentially just take it down right there. The MP folds and the button calls. The flop is Th5c2h and I Cbet donk 4500, when he calls I'm telling myself that I am done and then I see a 3h on the turn. At this point is where I made the mnistake of not shoving and just betting 8500 and getting called. The river was a brick and he checked back and flipped over 2 black queens. In hindsight it's a clear shove and I was very upset for not even having that thought cross my mind. The only other line I can picture taking in that hand is check calling the flop and either check-shoving the turn or, most likely, check folding the river when he checks behind on scare turn.

The only other spot where I could have done something differently that would have had an impact on the outcome was when I got dealt AdAc in the BB and I 3 bet squeezed a utg's 3X and Scotty Nguyen'scall from MP, Scotty wound up folding 77 and I would have stacked him on an {As 7s 2s 2d 6s} board. Besides these tow spots there was not much room for meto try anything different from what I actually did, mostof the spotswere pretty straightforward and boring, but overall I really enjoyed playing and I can hardly wait until I get to try again at the Aussie Millions.

    Take care until next time,

  2. The weekend wound up going pretty well, I was fortunate enough to final table a couple of decent tournies, most notably for 4th in the $50/200k on Stars today for 14k. I really needed a boost to my Stars roll and I'm really happy I got it. The primary reason is that I'm heading to the PCA Tuesday morning and if I happen to bust out of the ME, I can buy in to other events directly from my Stars cashier. It's much better than spending cash which you first have to withdraw and etc., the way I see it it's like paying at least 20% less, for taxes if for no other reason.

I can'tsay that there were too many memorable hands from today even though the tracker says I played 3,500 today. The only two that stick out in my mind are both with AJo. The first one:

  3. Happy New Year, hopefully it will be the happiest thus far. Last year was a great year fro me, not only in the positive sense but in the grand sense of the word. I broke up with a girlfriend of 6 years, graduated college (2 weeks ago, after 8 years of semi attendance), and bankrolled myself pretty well for a good shot at making poker a full time profession. 2010 will be the true test. My laptop is due to arrive on Monday morning and a couple of hours later I am aiming to go to and take down the PCA. This will be my first 10k buy-in tourney but I'm selling pieces here and there so its not really a 5 figure buy for me, and besides I won it on FPP's so it does feel a bit like a freeroll, lol. Anyway, this will be my first big tourney and I am 50% going there for the tourney and 50% for the experience. After I get back I have a week to get my stuff together for Aussie Millions, which I have been wanting to play for 3 years and have finally won a seat into on Cake poker. More about that later.
I am not looking forward to spending 5 out of the next 12 days I have left in NYC doing tax stuff, but that's the hand I got dealt, so be it. Taxes are a complicated mf'er, the more you learn about it the more complicated it is, tbh I don't think anyone knows the tax code entirely, did you know that there is a $400,000.00 challenge, that gives the $ to the person who can prove that you as a person are legally required to pay taxes by the law? Apparently the challenge has been unmet for like 10 years now. There's an interesting video about taxes you can watch here:

This weekend I really want to take something down on stars, it has been forever and half since I've hit something decent on there and it would be great for my PS BR.

I hope to blog throughout the year as I travel, and post updates about my online successes and failures as well, if anyone has comments or questions, please post them and I'll try to to respond when I can. Good luck to you all in the new Year, and I will see you at the tables!
