After posting my first entry, I realized that it wasn't very informative (or appealing to read) so I've decided to publish a more thorough and potentially useful outline of what I intend to achieve with this blog.
Background:
My name is Neehar Banerji and I am a full time student majoring in economics. I've been playing poker for about 3 years and I am mostly playing HU cash games these days. At heart, I am a tournament player and I still play the Sunday majors and, when I'm up for it, the weekday 1k's.
Goals:
Several months ago, I identified my biggest leak: I didn't think enough about the decisions I was making. I spent countless hours playing, but I never focused my attention on improving the caliber of my play. My failure to improve reflected this absence of thought and I was stuck being a mid-level MTT grinder. After making a concentrated effort to think and improve my play, I moved up in limits and was able to succeed. This summer I did very well 1-2 tabling HU 3-6 and 5-10NL cash. Although I was winning and still am, I have not been able to break through to the highest levels of cash game play. After some shots, I have realized that I am nothing more than a break-even player (that's generous) at 10-20 NL and above. Yet, I believe there is hope because I have had another poker-related epiphany and have identified another, significant leak of mine. While I have been good about consistently learning, discussing and adapting the strategic aspects of poker, I have recently realized that I have done an inadequate job of addressing the equally important personal aspect of the game. Many of you may interpret this to mean tilt, but the personal aspect of poker extends far beyond playing bad when you're upset. My intentions for writing this blog are wholly selfish but they may have unintended, altruistic benefits for the p5's community. A lot
I'll be playing my first live 10k event at Niagara this week and I'm confident that I can do some damage with the excellent structure.
