272 The beginning of a poker career
Hey everyone. My name is Steven DiTullio, I am a junior in college at WPI, and I want to become a professional poker player...same old story right' I've trolled the forums pleanty over the past few years and it always seems someone will post something relating to this. "Should I drop-out of school'", "When do you know that you're good enough'", "What do you need ...

65 Diary of a Low Volume Grinder Part-9 $48.00 Needed for $100K Badge
Not much time to actually blog about my OPS Series ATM. But really looking forward to reaching $100K in tracked cashes tonight. For the entire 7 years I've been a member here, I never really actually thought I'd ever get it. I mean when I registered here pre-black Friday, Poker was just something to pass the time. I was still very much into other things at the time as well. Obviously the part I ...

272 Ivey's not the King Yet
With Ivey making the November 9 this year the poker world is buzzing with talks of Ivey being the best in the world. I'm not totally sold on him being head and shoulders above everyone else however I do think he has to be in the top 5 in the world right now when you factor in cash games, tournaments, holdem, and non-holdem games. The easiest comparison to make to Ivey is the self proclaimed ...

1 Julian 5k at Council Bluff
Need help understanding this hand, its just fucking weird too me. Day 1 of the 5k at Council Bluff, Jeff Banghart age 35-45 just sat down at my table and knew who I was and all about my sucess online. Now he just won a sick pot against a super aggro player a few orbits ago, And has been very active since has bluff once or twice got caught but for the most part has had a hand when ever he bet. ...

218 Hard Rock/Free Coaching/Vote!...
Friday I played the $1100 buyin Hard Rock $175k guaranteed. They have two day 1's where if you bust out the first day you can buy in on Saturday again. All the survivors from Friday and Saturday return on Sunday to fight for the prize money. I played on Friday and didn't survive. I logged a bunch of my hands but I don't know if I should write about them. I had a couple interesting ...

1 Time to shed these gills.
So... as the title suggests i've decided to start getting better. My aims/goals' Well i'm not looking for riches, fame and fortune. I realise that this might be difficult, bordering on impossible, so i've decided to start by aiming low. Firstly, i'd like to achieve 1 profitable month, with the aim of becoming a consistently profitable player (as consistent as you can be at this game!). ...

Due to my personal situations, I was 'privileged' to go a foray through pharmacetical intervention for depression/insominia/panic attacks/agoraphobia. What a ride is was....... So when my exwife first kicked me out I went to urgent care and they but me on Ativan 3 mg a day. That much could knock out a horse I swear. 272 Relationships and Poker
Well, this past week was probably one of the worst for me in a few years. Poker wise just hit some rough spots. I managed to have a few really crappy cash game sessions, dragging myself down around $460. The tournament this weekend didn't go as I was hoping. I made a mistake that cost me about 1/3 of my stack then got it in the next hand JJ v AA and went from an above average stack to out the ...

4 Leaving the game.
The title pretty much says it all. I will play the play money tournaments and use up my FTP points for satty's but other than that, I am done. Poker hasnt become enjoyable trying to win money when your good hands are holding up around 30% of the time and you only manage to suck out 7% of the time. Good luck everyone at the tables.

272 Dealing With Downswings
So far the summer has not started as picture perfect as I was hoping it would. MTTs have not been kind, variance has kicked me in the ass more than a few times, and it seems like my winning session are all small ones and my losing session are crushing me. It has been getting to me recently that I can't seem to break through. No matter how well I play the rivers are killing me, my AA is ...

15 Keep the dream alive
So many of you know that I built a roll out of 50 bucks a few months ago.. Through hard work, dedication, and a lot of luck I grinded a roll out of it. Tonight was the culmination of all the sweat, tears, and heartache that I've poured into the game. Nothing but doubters and people thinking I'm a degenerate along the way. Without the support of many of you I wouldn't be where I am today. I ...

Note: I flipped a coin to see if I should take a nap and then go play Friday night cash games at Parx or play the Bovada tourney. 218 I Got Crushed...
I got crushed on Sunday for the most part. The whole first 2/3s of my day I was getting demolished. Just losing, getting coolered, getting put in tough spots, all around it was a typical Sunday where nothing was going right. I was down probably 5-6k at one point because there were a lot of big tournaments going on and such. The best thing was I didn't give up. Poker has it's ups and downs ...

Lets Face it... The poker lifestyle is a constant grind that can never be predicted. It can propel the weakest people into spontaneous money and it can destroy the strongest people with humility. 2 Tournament Poker and Realistic Expectations
Tournament poker is absurd. The amount of things that need to go right in any particular MTT in order to win it are baffling. Don’t believe me' Review a hand history and take note of all the big hands that fell in your favor. Start increasing the field size, and the need for good fortune grows. However, the best players always rise to the top over time because the ones who make optimal ...

All's well from my end; vacationing in Costa Rica has been more than relaxing. It's rather unreal to think with the money I've made/saved this year...I could live frugally here for probably 10 to 15 years (retiring by age 35 seems more than reasonable at this rate). 23 Perspective and my first 5 figure score
I wanted to address something before I dive right in to my first huge score, and it is poker related so I think its worth the read. I have been playing MTTs full time (about 40 hours a week) since I graduated in May. 272 Online Poker Will Be Back
Friday, April 15 is usually a day we all dread here in America. For us that's normally the day that our tax returns are due and Uncle Sam comes to collect. 92 "The Dream" is Dying
Since 2005, I've lived for the dream. Score big online. Make it to a $1K event at WSOP event, cash for over $10K. Parlay that to the Main Event and be on ESPN. 2 How Positivity Can Elevate Your MTT Game (Part 1)
Tournament poker is demoralizing. Countless times we play great poker for hours, even days, only to have it blow up in our face over the course of a few hands. It gets to a point where we wonder if there is some type of hex over our cards, or maybe the site we’re playing on is “rigged”. The consistent misfortunes deep in tournaments often weighs heavily on our attitude and makes us expect ...

272 Cash Game Theory
I've been wondering about this for some time now and just haven't really known how to put this into words. On the surface this is a very simple question but for the life of me I can't really figure out a solid answer. I have my own theories, and in talking to some cash game grinders they have confirmed some of my ideas, and depending on who you talk to there seem to be many different ...

This blog really wont be long, nor will it discuss results. Since my last blog nothing special has happened, i have one FT, where i got 4th in the $75 6-max. Despite playing this tournament dozens upon dozens of times, this was my first cash, and im happy it was a FT. Unfortunately I couldn't close it out at the end, but so be it. 4 Life EV, or the pitfalls of being a grinder
I sat here for about 20 minutes this morning thinking of a topic for my first (of hopefully several) Pocketfives blogs. I'm still not sure exactly what direction this will go, but I chose to write about something that I've been thinking a lot about lately: how to get the most out of life. I'll start with the introductions. My name is Eric, and I'm a 20 year old Econ student at Penn State ...

6 Playing Poker Isn't Glamorous...
When some people think of a professional poker player most people that don't know the poker world roll their eyes and think to themselves "sure". You are generally looked at as a degenerate gambler that probably is broke. Are there really people out there that claim to be a professional poker player that really aren't' hmmmm bad question.... So I guess I see his point. Do I really seem like the ...

"Do you care if I fire up some 18 mans while I wait for Miguel (MiguelSantiago OSS) to get here'" "No, go ahead its fine," I replied. I first met Mike Telker (Telks) in the Spring of 2009 (wow that went by so quick). I was at the point where I started to grind a lot more volume in MTTs, and Telks had recently started to get more serious about playing online poker. I had never met him, or ...

I have been a 6+ year FullTilt poker player. Wanting to expand my horizons, I decided to try out PokerStars. After only two weeks of playing a multitude of games... I am thoroughly disgusted with this site. I am not complaining about bad beats or horrible players, but rather the fact that FullTilt is so much more easier to manage, quicker to updates, and just an all around friendlier playing ...

1 Poker, skill or luck?
I'm not sure. Unless you hold the absolute nuts in any poker game then there is always a chance your hand will get beaten by anybody making the worst play ever. Its not often that you have the nuts to exploit in any case. I'm thinking luck outweighs the skill too much. People say that variance means your luck evens out given the skill factor if you play well, but I'm thinking not at ...

So, it’s been a couple days since my last post, but I wanted to do a recap of my play in the 100k, and didn’t really have time to do it properly. We just got hit with a blizzard here, so I’ve been shoveling. Plus I had a final that I had missed due to the storm and finally made it to campus on Thursday to take it. I've decided to start my 2009 SnG grinding 2 days early.
