I've been playing poker for a few years as a hobby. Not that I expect people to read this but I feel it's necessary for advancing my dream. Im going to try to use this blog as a way to convey how im feeling about the game and my overall imporvment. I've had decent success but know I have to keep working hard to improve.
As a low volume player I feel it's extremly important to make every single decision count. Hold'em is a brutal game. One ill-advised bluff can cost you your whole tourney. That's why I feel it's so important to think each situation through and have a plan while playing.
Alot of that comes with experience. Even though I've seen hundreds of thousands of hands, there is always somthing new that comes up. Being patient and understanding that poker is a long term game is vital to success.
I've seeked out advise from some of the sickest players online and they all say the same thing. IT CAN BE DONE. Just because you dont have the poker IQ of gboro doesnt mean you cant become a consistant winninng player. The people who put the most work in and understand that it wont come easy will come out on top.
To end I want to include a quote from a player who was formerly ranked in the top 10. I asked him what advise he'd give an up-and-comer.....
"Continue to strive to improve every hand, every tournament, every session. Don't settle for second best, and don't let outside influences effect your decisions in hands, you are the master and your the one sitting behind the screen, your in control of the decisions you make. Alot of people make plays because so and so thinks its +EV or so and so thinks its -EV I don't really think of poker like that I just play, if i think its time to be really really aggressive then I turn on the pressure if I feel like its time to tighten up then ill play like a rock you gotta have many dynamics to your game and no when/how to use them when it counts."
