Championship Series Upcoming

Our team did it. We are in the Yawkey Baseball League (YBL) finals with a 3-1 series win over the Malden Bulldogs. It was a great series and just happy we took it before they came storming back. It's always nice to have good pitching and good hitting lead you to championships rather than relying on one play or one bounce to go your way.

Our playoff pitching has been on FIRE. Team ERA of 1.50. Unheard of. Just stupid good.

Our hitting has been just as good with a team batting average of .320 with 20 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 homerun in 8 games. Also just stupid. We've only been held to less than 5 runs in 2 out of the 8 games and one of those games was a complete-game, shutout performance from our starter.

What does this mean? We're matching up with just as good a team in the finals, but I think we hold the edge on pitching. Their team ERA through the playoffs in 3.27 and their staff is not as deep as ours. I think if we pitch well, the series will go our way.

What does this mean for me? Well, I haven't even thrown yet in the playoffs due to shoulder tendonitis and it looks like I'm slated for game 3 at this point. Hopefully we have no setbacks between now and Wednesday so I can post a quality start.

In the poker world, since my return, I've cashed in 12/49 events I've played including a double cash in last night's daily doubles on FTP. Unfortunately, I've been getting nixed when it comes to the big flip deep, but it happens. Last night was just a case of not building a stack in the dubs. I examined my play only a little and saw that I definitely played weak toward the bubble because of the double cash nerves. Oh well.

Not too worried about poker until this series ends which will probably be next Wednesday. I'll post on how I toss this week!

Wish us luck. I'd like a championship trophy. It's been a long time since I hoisted one. Too long.

    1. Hope your arm holds up! GL Man! (not sure if I am your only fan on here, hehe, but been reading all your blogs) :)
    2. You're not his only fan :). Ship a ring (???) one time.
    3. New fan here, good luck sir. As a former collegiate basball player and present day washed up lefty who still thinks he can hit 90mph on the gun (more like 85 these days), I know all too well the pains of shoulder tendonitis. Our tourney in cincy starts on the 7th, just enough time for the this old lefty to recover from last game.
    4. 1-1 series tied. New blog post. Looks like I won't be starting at all and am banished to the bullpen if we need it since my coach is not convinced I can sustain a start. I guess it's ok since we're worried about health first and the championship second. Guess I'll have to wait until next year to toss some playoff games.

I used to be good....now I'm just out of shape, old (in baseball terms), and my arm hates me :-)
