  1. Haven't updated this thing in forever as I have seen no reason to. I played the first week and a half of the Scoop competition in the low bracket and was playing well but then I had finals to worry about and an intersession course after that. So all my time is going into that now, so I won't really be playing until July or so, at which time play should pick back up quite a bit. I will probably play now and then, and will try to find interesting hands to analyze and discuss with anyone who is interested on here from time to time, but with all the papers I am writing at the moment it will be difficult.

Thanks for reading and gl at the tables.

  2. I haven't had a chance to play at all this week between studying for exams, going to class, and hangin with the lady so not much to report on the low stakes tourney front. I have, however been weighing my options for the fall, when my life changes up some. I am graduating at the end of June with a degree in General Business, but I am not done with school yet.

I have a meeting with an advisor to discuss how best to go about getting a teaching certificate so I can teach and coach high school baseball, coaching being the only thing in the professional world that gets me jacked. It looks like I am heading to the University of Arkansas in the fall to take classes (whether UG or Graduate) and be with my girl. I am extremely excited about it all, but I might need to come up with a new gameplan to continue playing this game instead of grinding a $9.00/hour gig while I finish up. This semester has worked out well with tournaments, I go to class two days a week and that leaves time to dedicate two days completely to MTTs. I don't think that is going to work out next semester.

So I see two options, and really can't stand the idea of going back to MTT SNGs. So really I see one option: Cash. The idea excites me, as it is a new challenge, and I hear the lifestyle is infinitely better anyways in that it allows for better balance. I have actually studied cash a decent amount over the past few years even though I am a tourney player, I guess because it just intrigues me. I now plan on finishing out the semester grinding tourneys until Summer rolls around, while studying cash (playing part time), so I can devote July-September to really learning and adapting to the game. Hopefully by September I can maintain a good enough ptbb/100 to make the switch full time with rakeback. So I guess, CR .5/1 videos here I come!

I know, what happened to the goal of getting ranked?

While I think that would be fun and very challenging, I am just not sure at this point in my life I can justify tournament grinding and the lifestyle it presents just to get ranked, if I could establish the same profits in cash games. It has yet to be seen, but I have a hunch I can (haha, I know, no shortage of confidence.) I will update my goals next blog, and hopefully have some interesting hands from a session in which I can report some FT action.

As always, thanks for reading and GL at the tables.

  3. I don't have any HHs unfortunately as I just purchased a new computer that I am excited about. My new set-up is pretty nice and I am pleased with it. Anyways, all I have is a short summary.

These are the types of days grinders have to A) be accustomed to and B) truly analyze. I dropped about 35 ABIs today of $30 and roughly 1k. I feel like in a nutshell I played well aside from a few spots I admittedly spazzed, and ran alright. It is just a day I have to chalk up to variance, albeit a strange day of variance, as I really didn't run terrible, but on the contrary probably ran decently well. Unfortunately the three tournaments I amassed huge stacks in and pushed deep were small BI, massive field tourneys, all having over 3000 runners. The fact is, you have to run amazing and play just as well to take one of those down, and I just didn't quite run well enough. Honestly, had the stacks been amassed in smaller field, higher BI tourneys, it could have maybe been a nice day. As I said, strange variance.

The fact is, as an MTT grinder we have to be used to all kinds of variance, not just your standard running well or running poor. Any one of an infinite amount of variables decide whether your day is madly profitable or extremely disappointing. That is fine, we just have to accept that day to day, many of those variables are out of our control and continue to make the correct play at the correct time. These are the things we must remind ourselves, while also being honest on grading ourselves for the day. I probably played my "B" game to no fruition, which in itself is sort of a let down. I would prefer to play my "A" game every time out, and I intend to work on that.

    **Goal Update**

The last goal of designing a bad ass avy is almost complete. I designed one I really love but it was unfortunately not accepted by Stars. It was in no way inappropriate, but I understand their reasoning. I am going to try and load it into the blog here in a bit so we will see.

Thanks for reading. GL at the tables.
