herschelw's Coaching Profile[return to coaching directory]

Message From herschelw

I played mtt's full time for two years. Then spent a year playing full ring cash games full time and now spend the majority of my time helping other mtter's become the best that they can be. I've coached everyone from very well known pros to the absolute beginner, to retired folks working to make poker an additional source of income. I pretty much pioneered classroom style teaching to groups over skype. I have backed and coached hundreds of players both privately, in groups, and at camps. I have a huge network of other pros who I bounce ideas off of constantly and am able to provide even deeper insight into tough hands at no additional cost to my students. I'm about as blunt as they come so be ready for the God's honest truth about your game and the things you're doing.

Played for Jerry and from our first conversation where he was interviewing me to see if he wanted me to join I learned a ton from him. Even casual conversations had the probability of dropping some little bit of wisom that could help your game. This recommendation will not show up to users until you click approve. Approve

I recommend Jerry as a poker coach and a person. I had the privilige of working with Jerry for several months approaching Black Friday, and he had a tremendous impact on my game - not only my results, but in helping formulate my approach at the tables. He has a strong comprehension of all aspects of the game, and that allows him to tailor his teaching to your skill level. With you be a losing player trying to become profitable, or a profitable player looking to plug leaks and move up in stakes - Jerry can help.

His feedback/advice will be candid and honest - which is exactly what you need from a coach if you want to make marked improvement in your game. This recommendation will not show up to users until you click approve.

I've known Jerry and been training with him for the past few years. If I have to describe him in once sentence I would say: he's special.

How special? Well, let me tell you. The first time I met him I made the trek all the way from the Philippines to Las Vegas just to take part in one of his training camps. What I learned there in 1 week improved my game three fold - and that's an understatement.

He's one of the few coaches in poker that sees the big pictures. His coaching goes beyond "how to play these hands". He teaches you how to think about poker and how to outsmart and adapt to everybody else.

Stop reading these testimonials already. Seriously. Get some coaching now because the price is steal. This recommendation will not show up to users until you click approve.

When i first met Herschelw, I was barely a break even player (probably even losing) and only played on poor sites with bad players and bad structures. I started working with him through his group lessons. After several lessons, I began showing significant improvement and started to play the larger sites (FTP and PS). Soon after, Herschelw began backing me and became a personal coach. He is never shy about telling you the truth, which forces you to face reality quickly. But it did nothing but improve my game. Shortly after, I won two 28k GTD on FTP in a 3 week timespan. Several wins and many FT's later, I was quickly approching 100k in cashes within 6 months of starting my time with him.

He will improve your game knowledge, your mental capacity and most of all, he will become a good friend. His hourly rate is a steal for what you will gain from his teachings. This recommendation will not show up to users until you click approve.

Can't say enough about how much Jerry has helped me with my game. I'm a low stakes, low volume player who was a break even to losing player. I was finally able to join one of his hour long group lessons on 45man SnGs. I knew right then I had a lot to learn and began to do everything possible to get as much coaching from Jerry as I could. I joined pokerpwnage and attended several other lessons over the course of the last few years.

I know Jerry has taught, coached and helped many, many players, but each time he and I would have a lesson I felt as though I was the only one. There is no doubt that if he takes the time to help/coach you that he gives 100% to help you with your game; make no mistake about it though, he expects you to give 100% effort also. Love his straight up, no non-sense approach.

I have to give him a huge THANK YOU. You have helped me in many ways, but I will never be able to thank or repay you enough for allowing me to be coached/backed by one of your protege's. What I have learned thorough you and through those you have taught along the way is absolutely invaluable. I was just beginning to turn the corner and becoming a profitable player just as Black Friday hit. I know I will get back into playing more on-line soon and I just have great confidence when playing live and have all intentions of picking up where I left off; not only playing, but learning.

It will take me a few years at the very least and several, several nice scores to even come close to feeling like I have even come close to repaying you and those in your network who have helped me along the way.

Thanks Jerry!!!!This recommendation will not show up to users until you click approve.

I had my first coaching session with H last week. He was very blunt (but nice about it) when I was making mistakes and really plugged some leaks in my game. There were a number of new concepts for me that he explained to me in a way that I easily incorporated into my game. I will continue to have sessions with him. (BTW, I play a lot of SNG and found his advice very useful. I have been in a down mode recently, but withdrew 2K from my PS account this week.) thanks H Unapprove

Very professional and down to earth at the same time. He can teach many different levels of game. He is a great poker mind and stays current with the forecast of the poker evolution. He is a likable guy who will not sugar coat things, but get down to what needs to be done. I enjoy discussing poker with him and feel he is an asset to people looking to solidify their game; especially if wanting to learn to be more aggressive and put pressure on the table. Increase perceived threat. Unapprove

Jerry has an innate ability to talk poker to people who are not quite on his level without making them feel inferior. He relays his teaching ways and instructions in a very straight forward manner without being intimidating. Jerry's lessons are always broken down into simple but informative instructions on how to improve your game.

Jerry is an extremely good teacher and poker coach, but his best quality is that he actually cares about the well-being of his students. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students.

Jerry devotes most of his waking hours to helping others. In and outside of poker he is always trying to make things better for the people he knows and even those he doesn't. I count myself very fortunate to have come across him. The time I have spent with him has paid huge dividends. Jerry will teach you how to think about poker and to constantly challenge the status quo and yourself. Always striving to stay ahead of the curve Jerry spends a lot of time talking to some of the best in the game and thinking about the small adjustments that each player needs to make to acquire & maintain an edge.

Without ego Jerry helps people play better poker at all levels of the game. He has a huge network of specialists and if he doesn’t know something he for sure knows someone who does and who respects him enough to give him the answer.

If you know where you want to get to with poker - talk to Jerry and he’ll give you a roadmap. I did, and the journey has been fun and profitable ever since.

Before I got PokerPwnage and lessons from Jerry i was down 10k in mtts on full tilt, and now I am up over 10k on full tilt in mtts. He really helped my fundamentals for mtts and to make the transition from being a successful 45 man player to a successful mtt player. In Nov 2009 my highest mtt score was below 2k, since then I have had 5 5k+ scores as well as my highest $12900. Unapprove

I have had the pleasure of working with Herschelw for a few years now. I first came acroos him as a member of his training site www.pokerpwnage.com After a few months of watching videos and improving my game on my own I decided to invest in a lesson with him. I invested the $125 an hr for the first lesson and I would absolutely say it paid for itself within a week on me grinding online.
I have taken lessons from many a big name pro that charge two or three times what his going rate is and I feel that his grasp on the game and current trends are second to none. While many pros I've studied under have given me a solid foundation of playing styles, few have been able to articulate the different trends from month to month and how you actually need to continually need to adjust your game like Herschel can.
In a few short years Jerry has been able to take me from a barley break even player to being backed by a very legitimate company and even helping me finish in the top 1% in a WSOP event last summer.
I would highly recommend Herschelw for any training that you seek and can almost anyone into a top ranked player!

When being coached by Jerry I have found him to be very clear in his theory’s and consistent in his teachings. He takes a genuine interest in the players that he coaches and pride in their accomplishments. He has helped take my game to a new level. Since I began taking coaching from Jerry I have had over 70K in profit in a little over 6 months playing small and mid stakes.

I attended Jerry's vegas camp last summer and learned alot while having a blast also. When I came back I saw significant improvement in my game but because of my lack of focus and not studying my game stalled for a bit. I received a HH review just last week from Jerry and I can see the improvements already. He gave me a list of things to work on in my MTT game and I have it right by my computer to make sure I don't forget. I will definetly get more coaching from him in the future. Unapprove

Jerry is basically the person responsible for me being able to go from a part time player to a professional about 4 years ago. I currently still work with him to further develop His teachings are direct, to the point and easy to understand and apply. He also has a broad poker circle from which he learns new strategies to pass along to his students.

I had the privelege of attending one of his first poker camps and I would recommend it to anyone. Its the perfect balance of learning and playing provided in an awesome environent.

When I met Jerry I was a ball of nerves with no direction. I was incredibly good at running up huge rolls online, and even better at busting myself off the tables. Jerry and I started working together on Pokerpwnage, and he really took me under his wing. If you're his student, then you are his friend, and he is always going to give it to you straight. This man literally does not know how to lie. If he sees you doing anything stupid in his perception he will be on your ass about it.

Through his tutelage I've gained control over my life, my game, and my business affairs. I'm not just the best player I've ever been, but the best person I've ever been. Jerry is there for his friends through thick and thin. His intelligence goes beyond 99% of us in this industry, and yet he never thinks he's above anyone.

If you don't want someone to tell you the crushing truth about your game, then go get another coach. If you're ready to get serious about this poker thing then Jerry's your guy.

I am 46 years old and have been playing poker for just 1 1/2 years. I met Jerry a couple of months ago. I had been grinding microstakes cash games for 1 year. I had just lost 1/2 of my $3000 bankroll due to severe episodes of tilt and variance. I was feeling very frustrated and had just cashed out the $1500 I had left. I spent $1000 on Christmas presents and started over with $500 on Pokerstars.

I swore off cash games and started playing microstakes MTT's exclusively. I had been playing MTT's for 1 month and I had no real success until I met Jerry. I was feeling like a poker failure. Jerry was very supportive. He was also very good at spotting leaks in my game. For example, do not open limp, and do not call raises out of position with speculative hands. He taught me how to reship villains who were stealing wide. In just a few coaching session Jerry transformed my play. I went from being a tight passive cash game player to an aggressive MTT player.

The results speak for themselves. In just a couple of months of low volume play, I have final tabled 4 MTT's. I have grown my poker bankroll from $500 to $2200. I contribute my success to Jerry. I plan to continue to work with Jerry as my game improves and I move from microstakes to midstakes and beyond.

Frankly folks, the decision to use Jerry as a coach should be a no-brainer. It will be the best $125 you ever spent.

Jerry, thank you for your support in my hour of poker need. I will never forget your kindness.

After previously only being able to make enough $ in sng and mt/sng to give it all away in mtts... I started working with Jerry. Since that time, several months ago, I have made +30k in profit in mtts. I am absolutely positive I will continue to make much more profit and many more improvements, regardless of the changes and evolution constantly happening in poker. He is always sure to stay "ahead of the curve" and has proven so. Jerry has an excellent poker mind and a good heart also imo, fwiw. I , for one, appreciate his blunt personality and coaching style. I personally owe a lot of my current and future success to him and strongly recommend him as a coach w/ my highest regards. P.S. His next coaching camp willl be the site of my 1st 6fig score imo :D Unapprove

I had my first lesson from Jerry in the spring of 2009. It was in the form of a group lesson that concentrated on fundamental mistakes that mid limit players make. I also attended a week long online seminar that was hosted by him later that same spring while I had a full time job. It was alot of material to take in during one week, but after putting all the information I learned into my game I saw a vast improvement in my results. Last spring I attended a week long camp that him and Alex(Assassinato) put on in Jacksonville. The camp was everything I expected + some.

I have done several hand histories with Jerry. I would highly doubt there is any mtt player that studies the game as much as he does. His analysis and breaking down of hands on every street is top notch. If you make a mistake he can deal with it, if you make the same mistake again in a later hh he'll let you know about it.

Another spot where Jerry excels is the mental aspect of the game. It's hard to put it into words but playing backed for him for over a year he has helped me get out of multiple 5 figure downswings. A lot of this is due to his mental view on the game and his ability to put it into an understandable context.

I owe a lot of my success to Jerry and a huge thanks goes out to him. The price tag he has set is a bargain for anyone regardless if you are new to the game or have been playing for some time as he has experience at all buyin levels.

I spent a month working for Jerry in his wsop house in 2010 where he housed many of the players he backs. During that time i was privy to the coaching he gave to the guys who took days off from wsop. His style is very to the point and he doesnt hold anything back--a tough love kind of coaching if you will. After the wsop was over and i came home, i then won 11 mtts in a 2 month span on UB and i credit MOST of that just from incorprating the things i heard him talking about and him helping me with at the wsop house.

This past October Jerry held a week long poker camp for his horses and again he had me come in to work/cook. He had several guys there ranked in the top 200 and it was amazing to hear and watch him break down and analyze the mind of every kind of player from low stakes to the high stakes. He is currently doing a hh review of one of my tourny wins on his training site [pokerpwnage] and his simple yet elaborate thought processes will make anyone from a beginner to the highest stakes a better player.

Altho my results have struggled online, ive taken many ideas i learned directly from Jerry and have utilized those skills in live events that ive benefited from. as good of a coach jerry is...he is a far better person. in an industry riddled with indecent ppl its awesome to call Jerry a friend. if your thinkin about a coach, Jerry is a great person to acquaint yourself with. best of luck!! ive known herschelw for ~3 years. During that time i played backed by him for a short period before eventually building up enough to own roll in the small stakes cash games. (if you check my opr/sharkscope, youll think im awful bc i dont play tournaments/sngs much, and while my ptr isnt great, its respectable).

and participated in many strategy discussions on skype/forums and have always been impressed with his ability to analyze hands/ranges/ and situations. I still think his biggest strength is his ability to simplify some concepts that others may find a bit abstract which is a strong trait.

Ive watched quite a few strategy videos that hes made and have always found them helpful, but probably what really helped me more than anything is he really doesnt sugar coat things. When i was making excuses about run bad, or being negative, or anything like that, he wont hesitate to snap you into reality without being mean/cruel but direct/to the point. Sometimes the simplest, shortest explanations can carry the most meaning and have the most impact on our game, and im still appreciative to this day for having had a chance to work and talk with jerry.

ive seen countless people from other forums that have worked with jerry, and seen great improvements in results from the overwhelming majority of them. Hes def a great player, great teacher, and really would recommend him to anyone looking to crush the mtt scene.

I came out to help Jerry with his poker camp in Vegas for a day and was able to experience how he coached his students first hand. Jerry is the type of person that is great to have around for his mindset and maturity towards the game. He's very good in the psychological aspect of the game in keeping your head on straight and will teach you better note taking skills. He's been a coach/doing videos for a long time and has had a lot of experience, every player that I've run to that has been coached by Jerry has had nothing but good things to say. If that wasn't enough he's pretty good at poker too :) Unapprove

Herschelw coached me I think almost 2 years ago. In only a few sessions Herschel helped me make drastic improvements in my game, following my coaching with Hersch, I had 2 huge scores including a 5050 chop and a 250k 4th place finish. Two things about hersch. He doesn`t mess around, he will call you out when you make bad plays and make you play your best and not settle. Second he is a phenomenal teacher. Its one thing to be good at poker it`s another to know how to teach. Hersch is one of the best and I couldn`t give a higher recommendation...

I was lucky enough to meet Herschelw on a online poker forum three years ago. At the time I was a losing mtt player and a slightly break even sitngo player with a ton of deep rooted bad habits. I was seeking out a coach to tear down and rebuild my game, and thats when I started working with Herschelw on a regular basis. He re-invented my game. He broke down every leak and pounded fundamentals into my game that I lacked and had a hard time adjusting to. It was a painfully honest and humbling process that I would have probably never gotten from other coaches. Herschelw cares enough about your success to make sure nothing is sugar coated, everything is concise, honest and direct, which leads to quick results. I attended two of his well known poker camps , and the experience really helped launch my game into a new level.

Fast forward to current day, I now play full time. I have numerous outright mtts wins at the $33, $55, and $109 levels, including my first five figure score for 15k in the stars 100k. In 2010, I had 140k in mtt cashes and over 35k in profits, my best year yet. I have also done very well in sitngos too, with 9,000 games played, I have a 14% roi and 10k in profits. Herschelw is excellent in teaching open shoving range theory and short stack strategy, which is reflected in my results since most my success has come in turbo formats. I also have a sharkfin in turbo 180s over a decent sample, which I feel directly is a result of the style he has helped me develop.

I still use Herschelw for hand reviews and theory advice weekly. He is and always will be my go-to coach because I know I will get straight forward, honest feedback. When you consider the low hourly rate, and the invaluable amount of experience Herschelw has with coaching players of literally every level, the value is obvious. I highly recommend his coaching, and hope your results are even better than mine.
