  • Tourney poker is soulcrushing, and I can't help but continue to love it.

    Nov 01 2008, 09:10 PM

I keep trying to get better, but sometimes I wish I could go back in time to when I was playing my best and understand at a deeper level what I was doing, and be able to keep that feeling and mentally going onward into the future.  with the variance in tourney poker, its so easy to just feel like the feeling is gone, and to use a baseball analogy, the ball currently looks as big as a pebble when its being thrown to me.  Watching vids are nice, but emulating people is not gonna change your luck, or the way people play against you.   All I can really do is try and make the best reads possible and go with them sometimes.  Obviously poker is a much easier game when you know your opponents cards, and sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is the thinking that even if im not getting the cards, or guys are catching hands against me, is that I can either limit the damage by making a good fold, or bluffing with air when I know my opponent is weak.  Poker can be so hard though sometimes, I will admit that, and over the last few years Ive learned so much about this amazing game, that sometimes I feel totally conflicted and confused when I play.   Oh well, outward and onward

    peace

you attack my character, fine.  but attack my game?  now thats just silly.  thanks for motivating me.  i probably needed the kick in the ass. im gonna let my results do the talking from now on

    edit.

so i was inspired to post this after i was called out and dissed by some p5 members.  then went on to make a final table the next day and made the final of the nightly heads up tournament on stars.  a few days went by back to losing before binking the nightly 5dollar mtt on stars.  yeah, im still a low limit bitch, but im back to where i want to be for the time being.  so lick my balls world

whoops, i suck again.  shit. that didnt take long

  • Starting over was a moderate success

I dropped down to the 4.40s to try and work on all situations that would arise in bigger tournies without having to spend lots of time, or money to get to that stage in the tournament. I ended up with a 1st and two 2nds in a week and was really trying to concentrate on not uselessly spewing chips when i would have 15-20 bb's in an effort to steal blinds.  Also managed to take down a freeroll on fulltilt for a friend for 2k (obviously I won't say who).  Even though I had to split the prize 50/50, the 1k definitely helped my monthly bottom line and put me back in the black, even if its only by a little.  Also, decided to give absolute poker a try since Im getting tired of a massive fields on stars for some of the good guarantee tournaments.  A friend had been playing on ap for a while and was routinely cashing and going very deep in their 3 dollar rebuy tournament which would usually have 600-700 people in it with a first place of 2k.  Given the softness of the players, and the smaller field sizes, I had to sign up and try my luck in a fairly juicy tournament like that.  So I played in my first 3+R last night and finished 11th.  Was pretty choked after shoving with Q9 in the cutoff and getting snapped off by AK who hit an Ace on the river after I hit the 9 on the turn, which was too bad because if I hold there, I easily finish top 5 I think.  Oh well.
