Prop Bet Week 1 and Something Remote

By dtools22 - Jun 30 2009, 07:49 AM

Well, the first week of my Prop Bet with felipebball came to a close without much excitement.  As of Friday, June 27th, we have a grand total of two cashes between us.  I managed to mincash in the $11 6max while felipebball was able to make a decent run in the $11KO.  So far mixing it up with side action has not been the remedy for my MTT woes, but hopefully it will turn around quickly.  On positive note, there have been plenty of interesting HHs to come out of the last week and I have one that was particularly interesting.

This one hand in particular really caught my attention.  It was sent to me by a buddy of mine from a run he made in the nightly $3 Rebuy on FTP.  Hero has around 12K, villain has 14K, blinds at 200/400 50 Ante.  Preflop the villain limps from MP, hero raises 4x from the SB and gets called.  Flop comes off:

7s 5c 7c

Hero bets out 2000 into the pot, the villain shoves over the top, hero thinks about it before calling with AhKh.  The villain rolls over Ac8c and wins on the river with a pair of 8s.  My immediate reaction was that this was a terrible play to call off here with A-high unless you had some kind of read on your opponent (which he claims he did not).  His defense was that the villain was likely to turn his entire calling range preflop into a bluff, so 22+, A7s+, A9o+, KQ would all make this shove.  Against that range AKs is in fact a 2-1 favorite, however as I said then I very much doubt the villain is making this move that wide.  I think the villain is far more likely to have a flushdraw here of maybe just is overplaying a weaker 7.  I felt it was also possible 66-TT takes this line as well.  We agreed to disagree, any thoughts here would be welcome.  I would love to know if I'm simply missing something.

One non-poker piece of news for you all.  I am actively involved in the making of a webseries call "Something Remote".  We just launched our first episode on Sunday and we will be putting out an episode every Sunday at 6PM EST for the next few months.  Check it out at:

I am very excited about this project so I hope you all enjoy the episodes.  That's all from me for now, I'm down in Satin's Anus right now, better known as Orlando, Florida.  I love the city, but good fucking GOD it's too hot for me.  I'm gunna go find the pool for a few days and relax.  See you all on Thursday!
