  1. Thinking I need to upgrade as Im having issues running everything I want to run(ei. 2-3 sites, HEM etc.....any suggestions on specs or brands would be ideal.
  2. compaq
  3. Main issue you would need to be concerned with is having a fast processor speed & sufficient memory to run multiple programs; also having a fast ISP upload/download connection.

Probably want to have 6GB to 8GB of processor memory (Intel or AMD).

This is different than the storage memory which is usually from 320GB to 1.5TB.

If your current PC is more than 4 or 5 years old, you would probably benefit by getting a new system with the latest OS (version: Windows, Linox, etc), whatever you use.

  4. Hi ree22.

    Specs I'd go with:
    Win 7
i7 core - Best you can get (Overclock if you can)
Motherboard with at least 3 6Gbit/s SATA ports (Asus is what I usually get)
3 SSD with similar read/write speeds connected to 6/Gbit/s SATA ports. Cheaper SSD's have write speeds significantly lower than their read speeds.
    1 2TB harddrive for storage
    12 GB RAM
Install Win7 on one SSD, Poker clients on the second SSD and HEM on the 3rd SSD
    Good video card (your choice)

Once built, optimize the hell out of your operating system and hardware. This will give you more than you need but who knows what's next?
  5. thx guys im a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff :)

  6. If you are using HEM then the one of the most important things you can do is use a SSD (solid state drive) instead of a standard one. I have found it makes a huge difference; especialy with a lot of tables open.

    Overkill much??

    3 x SSD???

First thing I would have done is ask how much OP wants to spend. That machine won't be cheap. I also can't understand why you would only have 12GB RAM if you went with 3 SSDs and the biggest i7 processor.

Oh and by spending a lot of money on a processor you may not be left with enough to get a motherboard that compliments the CPU
  8. Spend the money if you have it.
  9. I agree, but you didn't offer an answer based on the OPs budget, just what you would get.
  10. Most new PCs these days have more than enough RAM and everything. If you just want a PC to play poker, then even something basic with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive is plenty for poker for $400-$500. But if you can afford more, go for more RAM and better processor.

    this ^

I can run 4-5 sites (20 tournaments), other software, chatting on Skype, checkin' emails, surfiing interwebzz, listening to music, etc. on a 17" laptop with 4GB Ram & not the greatest processor (& additional 24" monitor).
I too will probably be upgrading though (couple of the sites seem to be system hogs, ie. 888poker). So I'm probably going to go with i5 processor & 8GB Ram. Doubt you'll need more than that.

Maybe write down what you're using now & also how much you're willing to spend on new puter.
  12. The problem is OP is using HEM and its a resource pig.

Thats why an SSD and 8GM RM are the minimum.

Even an entry level video card will outshine on board graphics (and some of the 1155pin Mobo's don't support on board graphics)
  13. do you have a friend or acquaintance who can put components together for you? It'll be cheaper than buying prefab

    thoughts?

Apparently it has a slow chip set. Should i be looking for a better processor with better than 1.6ghz speed? or would the 8gigs of ram make up for that?

  15. Have one custom built imo.
  16. looking for a laptop though.

    Now im debating between:

    17.3in hp i5 6g-ram vs 15.6in acer quad core a8-3520m 8g-ram

for multitabling couple poker sites, holdem manager, web surfing, music etc.

pretty huge noob when it comes to this stuff, any advice is much appreciated

  17. i have a 17" macbook pro with 750gb and run both mac and windows on it. didnt experience any problems yet. really great laptop, but quite expensive, cost me 2.3k euros which should be about 3k dollars.
  18. I use a dell xps with 8mb ram and it runs hem and multiple sites and as many tables as i can play without a sweat
