  1. Planning on buying a Mac laptop this weekend. Any advice - doesnt have to be poker related?

    thx in advance...

  2. What one you getting macbook or pro? What sort of things you going to be using it for just general use and poker.. or editing movies etc
  3. i bought a macbook pro like 2 weeks ago and def already like it better than any PC i've ever had. for writing and presentations and stuff like that i bought iWork which is compatible with everything in microsoft office. I also got the magic mouse, which i saw get some bad reviews in a diff thread because it was slow, but you can change the settings on it when you install it to make it faster so i haven't had a problem with it.

as far as poker-wise, i can't really play more than 4 tables at a time on it, which is fine for me. but might be a problem for somebody with more volume.
  4. if using it at all for poker, don't get one. I'm about to sell my old/current macbook on ebay and get a pc. Wayyy wayyy better for poker + you get a way better machine for less money. Xocticpc is where I'm getting my new one from for like 830ish 15.6" screen, 120 gig ssd drive, 4gb ram. Apple software is sweet but overpriced imo

  5. get a 17in
    bootcamp it
    best of both worlds

been moving back and forward between bootcamp, parallels and jsut MAC OSX.. finally commited myself to botocamp and windows 7...

If I would need to buy something now, I would just buy a windows because it will be mostly poker im doing...
  7. I think the MacBook Pro is far and away the best laptop I've ever had. Unfortunately you can't use certain software on it though, including Holdem Manager and a number of poker rooms' software.

  8. DO NOT buy a Mac. You're going to pay way more for that cute little apple with the bite out of it on the top. Apple is shit, they charge out the ass for everything, force you to use them for repairs/replacement parts which costs even more money. Just buy a decent PC laptop, it's going to be cheaper, last longer and you aren't forced to use apple for every little problem. And you won't pay $500 for extra RAM or HDD space.

Can't agree with this whatsoever...After having PC after PC, and problem after problem, I finally got a simple MacBook with upgraded RAM (which was $200 I believe)....I've had zero problems with it, it boots up and is ready to go in about 15 seconds (not 4 minutes like a PC), it never crashes, works great with FT and PS, and is really a smooth computer. I got a 24' monitor and an external keyboard and mouse for poker and editing photos. I recommend the shit of these computers, incredibly more solid/reliable than the Sony, Dell, and HP I had before this one (had it over a year)...

I run a program that runs windows, so you can do anything if you want
  11. so happy with my new mac... went with the 17 in. to add more tables but it's pretty bulky and not necessary for 4 tabling. The resolution on these things own, and they're super fast!

  12. Save $1000 and get an equivelant PC

then buy some sweet monitors so you can multi table

  14. I have a 15" Macbook Pro and a 27" Apple LCD Cinema display and I doubt I'll ever change anything about the set-up. The transition from using just the laptop to using the display is seamless and takes all of 5 seconds. Also, I can 9-12 table on the laptop and 16 table on the display with no overlap.

Yeah, Macs are more expensive but so far, the extra money has been worth every penny.
