I've always been jealous of the people who make their own brag threads, so now it's my turn, although mine is hardly a real brag :( I'll try and keep it as short as possible since no one really cares... but hopefully my story will help motivate some others who are struggling with their poker endeavors xD
I played on Full Tilt and pokerstars for 2 years pre-Black Friday, without much success. A few LOW 4 figure scores here and there, to just barely consider myself a breakeven player. It was a hobby to me though, not a profession, so I was okay with the entertainment poker brought me with the occasional small payday.
After switching to playing only Carbon poker, I find myself making a deep run in almost everything I touch. Call me lucky, crazy, donk, fish, wtfever you want...but whatever I am doing is starting to work. I got my first outright MTT win on Jan. 4th for ~$1000 (wasn't my biggest score, but it was my first 1st place, so I was excited), and now less than a month later, I took down the $30 2a1r 10k guarantee for almost $3000.
I feel like it was well deserved, considering I've recently had several final tables without a win, and it was starting to seem like my account was cursed with all the bad beats I was taking. It was also my last tourny of the night, after another fail of a day (busted 9th in the $60 17.5 guar and 21st in the $40r 17.5 guar.. lost 66 to 55 in the high roller and lost KK to QQ in the 100k guar)...
Soooo... if you feel like the poker thing never goes your way (kinda like how I felt), keep on trucking....keep on reading and educating yourself, and eventually the cards will go your way!!
Best of luck to everyone in 2012...see you on the v-felts :)

Way to go! There is definitely success to be had on Merge if youre patient and persistent. I too have accomplished more on there since Black Friday than I did on the other sites. Keep the big scores coming!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the love! None of my friends play poker so I am counting on P5's for all the support I need... best poker community on the planet!

It's posts like these that bring me back to the days where I was in OP's shoes. I have and will never be on the same levels as the true professionals, but when you accomplish something monumental don't feel like its not share-worthy.
Congrats and keep the good attitude through the tough times as well. Those people end up the most successful in whatever they do.
/philosophical rant -
congratulations ethan, keep those ft's coming and soon everything just falls into place

Nice to see all your hard work paying off. With all the maizes you need to hop through its nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Did you watch the videos here to help the new success? If not Congrats all the same.

I watched a bunch of the demos. I found it interesting seeing another person's thought process while playing hands and the reasons behind their actions. I also listened to Gags one day for a free group training session; it too was helpful.

I picked up my first ship earlier this week, and ive never had a more satisfying feeling ever! (I did beat a field of 6k players tho LOL)

Congrats!
Man, some of you guys are crushing Merge... -
Are US players able to cash out on Merge? And are they accepting new US players?
-
nice score! anyone else notice merge getting way harder after opening it up to new US players a month ago or so?
-
wp op, keep it up

I've received 2 checks from Merge since Black Friday. They take 4-6 weeks to approve the withdrawal, then another 7-10 business days to get you the check. It's basically a 2 month process, which sucks, but at least I can confirm that they DO pay out their customers and the checks cleared just fine for me.

Also requested a max check withdrawal ($2500 US) yesterday. Haven't gotten a confirmation e-mail yet, but I assume I'll get the check around mid-March. I'll keep you posted if anything goes South xD
