  1. Sorry for the brag post so I will keep it brief. It is my best result ever.

    I won a partypoker sub-sub-qualifier $1.60 ReBuy winning an $88 ticket.

I won the $88 sub-qualifier to earn an $800 WPT Paris Qualifier ticket.

I managed to get 2nd place winning one of two $15,000 WPT Paris seats to the WPT Paris Grand Prix 2011.

    ------------------------------------------------

My last WPT event was the WPT Cyprus Merit 2009 and it was hell with Antonio Esfandiari on my right ALL Day1a. Day 2 was no better with Allen Cunningham, Rep Porter, and (yes) Antonio Esfandiari again at the table. I got knocked out about 50% through the field, and obv out of the money.

I wanted to do better this WPT event and actually did. With 312 players in this WPT, I survived Day 1B, Day 2, & most of Day 3, finishing 25th & winning 16,600 Euros ($23,400) my largest live score to date. Matthew Waxman won the event pocketing 500,000 Euros.

Many of the posts on pocketfives improved my game so thanks to everyone that takes this forum seriously and post informative & game-building commentary.
  2. Very nice score from a few dollars well done.

  10. What is funny is that in 2005 I qualified on Full Tilt for this very same tournament but the government of France back then went on the warpath against online qualifiers ... so Full Tilt just paid me the $16,000 seat.

It was a great experience with a few hands that tossed a few top players to the rail for field goals ... all very satisfying.

The $15,000 partypoker seat I won in the qualifier was: hotel paid for six days, $2,000 expense money, and the 7,500 Euro entry fee paid. The hotel was the RADISSON BLU Paris-Boulogne and it was excellent. Food super & reasonable, free internet, & a small fitness room w modern equipment. Beds were American superior standard. PartyPoker took care of the travel to and fro from the site.

I think that Matthew Waxman winning it makes this the first time that an American has won a WPT event outside of the U.S. but this needs to be checked. Sexton was saying this after Matthew hit his ten of clubs on the river to make his flush and bust number two in the Heads Up portion of the WPT Paris Grand Prix 2011.

  11. Nice work! First post was going to be wasted on berating you for your brag of a 25th place finish and not the big W... then I saw you started your satellite dream with a $1.60 tourney and realized I have never in my wildest dreams made that kind of money off $1.60. Keep running like the Gods!

Thanks for the post Jimmy, I appreciate it.

I am a bit weird about my insistence on qualifying into tournaments via satellites (my friends constantly on my case about that ...) but it does maximize gains when you cash in a big way.

I know that for the serious poker pros on this site a World Poker Tour 25th place and even $23,400 is hardly worth a second look, but for amateurs (like me) that take poker seriously it is a serious achievement.

I had such an amazing time at the WPT Cyprus event 2009 (I also qualified for that one ...) that it is well worth the time to try and satellite in for MOST of the serious players IMHO.

The Jason Merciers & Daniel Negreanus of the world of course buy in direct but an arguement can be made from a PR point of view they should show up in the satellites. For the WPT Cyprus 2009 Satellite when we got down to three players, I had my hands full with tedsfishfry (Shaun Deeb I think) and some other serious pro so even the top end of players satellite in.

I have fun in the qualifiers which fit around my day job and when I qualified ... I can tell you that I was a happy camper that day because the qualifiers are pretty hard fought.

    Satellites ... they rule :)
