New to SNGS and only started playing $10.40 turbo double or nothings the last 5 days after reading they are going to be cancelled.
Played 310 games...ROI 7.3%. Wish I had discovered these earlier.
Need a similar game to replace double or nothings. The 50/50 may not be best as I usually nit it up and get to money with about 100 chips left.
Am supernova, so points are important, and I can play 15 tables at a time...any suggestions? -
Stop being a nit and learn how to play SnG's. Nothing in this game is easy and it seems like you want the easy way to money. GL with that and when you find the answer please let us all know. In the mean time pick up a book, read an article, use google, and the list goes on and on. Put in work to see results just like anything else in life. Your not gonna go the gym and expect to get bigger with out lifting heavy weights so why would you expect to get better/make more money at poker with out doing any work to get there?
Cliffs: Stop being a pussy and learn how to play the game. Learn things like ICM and push/fold because they are very important in the SnG's. Moshmans books is a good start. -
Thanks Otang for the input(I was halfway kidding about nitting it up with 100 chips), although I do have a feel for push/fold and ICM and more so how to exploit the Moshman robots who make so many mistakes that it has become optimal to stay patient in double or nothings and cash.
If you could be decent enough to reply in a semi-civil tone, I would like to learn SNGs, and while I will read Moshman's book so I can know how all the robots play, I think it is also important to play a lot of SNGS and would like some input on where a new SNG player should start in terms of games. Let's say pokerstars only...$1000 bankroll.
Thanks for the help. -
I quit playing SnG's because they have become some reg nit infested. To me its tougher to make money today then it was 2 years ago and I have gotten into MTT lately so I pass on the SnG's. $6 SnG's with 8 tables(or however many you normally play) going is where I would start with $1000(if your playing turbos). To me the SnG's have gotten boring to play b/c like you said everyone plays like a nitty robot and when the blinds go up its just push or fold. Boring IMO. Maybe look into a site the specifically deals with SnG's. I think there are a couple out there.

Even though you don't want to be a Moshbot I do know they offer coaching where they only get paid if you profit or something along those lines. Kinda like money back guarantee coaching. Google moshman coaching and you should find it.
Wasn't trying to come off as a dick if I did. I forget sometimes text can be very monotone and taken either way.
Edit: You said what you need to do already. Play lots and lots of SnG's. LOTS!!!!!!!!!! -
Thanks Otang...good luck with the MTTs, it's all about finding the right niche these days
-
Good luck in finding something else to play.
I have played thousands of $5 DON's(non-turbo) for the last 2 years, and made some decent $$$ on them.
Very sad to see them go.
Don't know if i really like the 50 50's that much as i have only played 22 and they don't seem to fit my style.
Prob go back to grindin some 9 man SNG's. -
Chris not playing live anymore out at jai lai?
-
Tim...Games died after the law change, although they were great for three months. The PLO game went away, and playing live $2/$5 hold 'em with the same nine regs at the same slow pace gets boring. I still go occasionally, but it is more convenient to just play online.
-
Make a trip to the bay area. Games are super soft and a couple to choose from. If you ever do make the trip let me know and we could have a P5 pow wow.
-
I agree Chris, I like to go out there occassionally, but usually play online or in Tampa. I am much better at SNG's than I am at cash games. The games around Tampa are much softer too. My in laws live down there, so I frequent Derby, or Hard Rock, but from what I hear the Silks is the softest. Sometimes I go to Daytona too, since I have family there. Wish I had the bankroll to play the tournaments that are worth at as the tournament players live around her are terribad lol

I played ~255 of the 5050s to see how they are... and am running at 13% ROI...
Just because they are "unknown" and not the incredible BOT poker that everyone has come use to with DONs... does not mean they are not profitable..
yes i realize my sample is small -
Since the DON's are gone, i will probably try to grind some Fifty50's.
Anyone else been playing much of these? -
MFT I've played only ~300 of these.... but have run ~8% i think... i'd have to open my poker tracker to make sure.... a good part of the first ~100 was getting a feel of them though... and it was all "pre-no DONs" .... i'm wondering if they will get harder as DON players join them
-
Ive only played i think 31 so far and cashed in 22 so far, but only up alittle over $10. Played 10 last nite and cashed in 9 for a profit of $22. I think it may be easier to cash in them, but im gonna have to find ways of building my chip stack.
Probably have to make more calls on the bubble with decent hands that i would have folded in a DON.
Already saw a few DON regs playing the 5050's.
If too many regs are playing i will not play these. -
Deposited $500 in late September of 2010, ran good, and made Supernova in just the last three months playing PLO ranging from .10/.25 all the way to 2/4...lots of points and bonuses. Ran bad in December, withdrew my bankroll, and decided to start this year with $300 bankroll and grind back up starting at lowest limits and applying good bank roll mangement. Just making the 7500 points a month to maintain Supernova until I move up in stakes.

well at 15 tables you are going to have to sit here and play a good amount of $10 5050s to make Supernova.... at least i think youmentioned the 10's...

7500 / 2.64 = 2840 / ~15 per hour = 189 hours
So lets hope you have either alot of spare time or this is your "job" -
So far have played 145 of the $5.30 Fifty50's.
Cashed in 110/145, which is alot better than i did in the DON's, but many of my finishes are 4th and 5h.
I'm up $76.39 for a ROI of 9.94%.
I realize this is far from a good example # wise, but seems like they are much easier to cash, however my chip count probably avg about 1500 chips when i cash. It's not too often i finish 1st in chips.
Wondering how others are doin at these -
does anyone know if any other sites offer DoNs?
-
party, Merge, Cake.
They do not run on Cake very often from what I have seen. I just signed up to Merge so not 100% sure how often they run. On lower stakes on Party they seem to run, not sure about higher stakes, since I don't play them. Worth at least checking out. -
Bodog has DONs $7+.70, $14+1.40, 28+2.80, and 56+5.60. Games are soft up thru the $28's, 56's have more regs, but if you are selective you can occasionally find a juicy table. Payouts have been great for months. Bad part is they have a 4 table max and the tables fill slowly compared to the main sites. Can sometimes take 30+minutes to get 4x tables at 28 level filled going at a certain level. $7's fill fastest of course.
Forgot to mention they offer turbo DON's too. I don't play them as much since a little more luck involved in them. -
rake is way too high to play the $5+1 on party, I might as well stay with the stars 5050. My play is to hyper table maybe get a 2-5% roi then make it up on rewards programs

Rake seems better on Merge, doesn't look like you can get a shit ton run off, but might be worthwhile to add to your ps 50/50s. Cake seems super dead for anything at the moment. Lee Jones leaving there was possibly the nail in their coffin.

Played about 400 $5.30 fifty50's and i'm up about $90.
I get in the $$ just over 70% of the time but usually come 4th or 5th.
Not sure what the best strategy to play these is.
Any input outthere? -

I haven't played enough to know how it works out for sure, but I think you have to play these like freezouts, not DONs. Play for the win, not the cash. I've cashed for $15 to $20 bucks in most of my wins bc I bubble crushed from 7 on down stealing from the DON type-nits who forget that you get paid more for winning with more chips.
I've also let the shorty on te hbubble survuve as long as it was profitable to keep stealing from others. -
50/50's seem pretty tough to make a good win rate in. They are easy to cash, but seems like you'd be better off playing the regular sng's
-
The play on the bubble is atrocious, making it fairly easy to cash, my problem is lack of chips.
Maybe i have to gamble it up more.
