We've learned that a follow-up hearing could come as soon as the next few weeks, according to the PPA:

That was two hours plus of my life I am not going to get back.
Most of it was about children, problem gamblers, and bots/HUDs.
D'Amato's position is that people will continue to gamble on the internet, so let's regulate it.
This Eggert fellow said that you cannot regulate bots and that these bots will continue to win at the poker games. He is a law professor and I don't believe he is an IT specialist. One of the questioners then suggested that a bot could avoid detection by folding a full house some of the time.
It seems to me the sites could bundle a HUD with their software free for everyone to use. There could be stringent age verification requirements.
From this hearing, I saw that there are definitely people in our government who want regulation to happen. Bono asked good and relevant questions, and Barton looks to be a more acceptable face of this legislation than Barney Frank. -
Good analysis for the most part. I like your HUD idea. One of the ideas pitched by Eggert was that each player would have a rating so you know whether they're a solid reg or a beginner. That might solve some of the bot/software issues as well. Also, the PPA has said it's going to go back to the committee with detailed info on what poker sites do to combat bot use. PPA called it a "controllable issue," but no one on the panel had the technical expertise to talk about it.

As a representative of the industry, mainstream people using poker puns drives me crazy. They do it because it's catchy. Really no other reason for it. -
The other issue that was discussed was setting limits on time played, Amount won, amount lost.
maybe I heard wrong, I know they discussed showing the player these items, but I thought I heard putting limits on them as well.
If they did, it wouldn't make sense. -
why dont they just use captcha to go against bots

make cash players put it in when they sit down at the table and then maybe every 2-4 hours or so
would maybe be a little annoying but would work -
1st of all i'd like too remove the term "online gaming"make this strictly online poker, let the indian casinos have their table games blackjack ,roulette, craps, slots, doesnt need too be online imo .stick with" game of skill " and put poker in its own classified category, get our game away from all those junk games out there, make it its own entity............................................ .......................
i was really annoyed with the horse racing industry guy, stfu with ur old man industry, that POS horse crap is for the all the old farts of back in the day ,give it a rest, horse racing-para mutual wagering is garbage and i'd rather see a horse bot race anyday of the year, than that HGH cheat scamming shyt -
The Kentucky Congressman is looking out for Kentucky's interests, which is what he's supposed to do. But yeah, online poker seems to have the best shot of being legalized, as opposed to online gaming in general. I think a lot of people can agree that poker is a game of skill. Therefore, it's different from online slots and other casino games.

& bono's got 7 indian reservations in her district. & go figure, harper from mississippi is concerned about the threat to biloxi. politics = politics. i love how well barton threw it back @ stevens tho-- he turned it more on a "treat indian nations like states, the tribal council like a state gov woudl have the right to opt out"--- clearly addressing stevens concerns as if stevens mighta given a shit about his ppl getting whamboozled w/o more stringent regulation, and obv not at all about why indian reservations should have some crazy absurd competitive advantage if they chose to take their games beyond the jurisdiction of their reservatoins & across state lines. lil invitation that should they be interested in particiipation in some larger federal program they clearly are gonna have to consider subscribing to some reasonable proposal that would simply mean they'd be welcoming more competition from players not necessarily already in the market. supppppppppppplllllly & demmmanddd. neither mohegan sun nor that FL hardrock they recently acquired are specifically on tribal land & are licensed through some sort of compromise ( i think..) but those were easy case by case economic boosters probably pushed by local state legislatures to provided surges for the region. internet's a different playing field & indian nation ought participate in such a proposal or keep their shit restricted to brick & mortar. embrace it or don't, but gtfo of here w/ the bullshit period of exlusion. it was either town or rush who was addressing stevens with some questions on supporting the bill w/ some specifics to consumer protectionism & stevens completely balked, read 6 points off the indian nation position cheatsheet, & woudlnt really weigh much further in aside from anecdotes about his proud grandma on whether they really cared at all how something like this might evolve--- so long as they can stubbornly demand some BS period of exclusion & other crazy backwards carved out competitive advantages. shake up the status quo a lil w/ some inevitable technological innovation and those dominating the past w/ impunity demand special treatment. maybe, just maybe, they don't care about the industry at all--- legalize this shit, & let the firms who wish to compete , compete. the hypocrisy in all this is annoying every time discussion strays to fantasy sports betting, state lotteries (GOV O'MALLEY OF MD INFURIATING ME), or horse racing, but the indian nations attitude through recent proceedings is just revolting. grow up.
