  1. While I know most of you are probably sick of the media charade that this man has presented over more than half of a decade, I was always curious on actually how good of a player he truly was. $12,000 online score. Playing in LAPT events. While it is well documented that Van Der Sloot was a degenerate gambler was he actually a reg whom people have played with in the past? Had anyone played with him live knowing who he actually was? From the tales of extortion and sex trafficking it doesn't seem plausible that he effectively kept a roll, but as a "self-proclaimed" professional poker player he had to have some level of success.....or maybe not.

I've never really seen anything on any forums about his relationship with the poker community even though every article I have read almost always makes even the most minimal reference to his frequent poker play.
  2. Dont really care, just glad hes finally been brough to justice, he should rot in jail for the rest of is life, scumbag.
  3. at the time of the Peru thing people were saying he was sort of a poker wannabe. Someone who thought he was a ballah (and would strangle you if you disagreed)
  4. never heard of him

It surprises me how many people haven't heard of him. Maybe it wasn't widely reported in the UK, as you aren't the first UK person to say they never heard of him (had someone from the UK tell me on my stars home game table yesterday the same thing) In the US and Netherlands every household just about has heard of him due to the American, Natalie Holloway "murder" in Aruba in 2005 which went unsolved and the more recent Peru murder that he picked up his victim after gambling in a Peruvian casino.

  9. I wonder when he goes to bed at night, if he is the big spoon or the little spoon. I bet it's the little spoon..

  11. I think he is just kind of a rich kid who didn't have any direction and just kind of drifted around but into expensive and sometimes socially dangerous areas. I don't imagine he ever actually studied poker, but a poker tournament is really the exact kind of place a guy like that could show up. Expensive, risky, lot of adrenaline. This guy is kind of fascinating to me, so I understand why other people are so interested in him. I don't feel an ounce of goodwill toward him or anything like that - it's just curious how a case like him comes to be. And extremely tragic that he had so little sense of responsibility and empathy that he committed the kinds of crimes that he did

  12. Hes just a cold, pathological liar, who was caught bragging on tape about the crime to is friend, and had is father to cover it all up, yes the case as an whole is fascinating, dont know how you can say this murdering rapist fascinates you.

Right, believe me I don't mean it in a good way. Probably a better way to say it is that he grabs my attention

I understand exactly what you're saying and millions of people feel the same way. It's just interesting/fascinating to see how people can do this etc. Shows on serial killers and murderers are very popular on TV, my fiancé and I love watching forensic files, lockup, any specials on murders/serial killers. He doesn't mean he enjoys people dying and people doing sick things but it is interesting to hear about.

  18. I haven't played with him myself but I have a lot friends in Dutch poker commnity who played with him. He was a regular in the cashgames in Holland Casino in 2004/2005. From the stories that I've heard I guess Adam's read is pretty close.
