  1. They are trying to come up with a chop 4 handed. They offered ALF48 $14,215 and first place in the tournament was only $14,140.44. Even ALF48 said it was too much and said he would take $12.5K and others $8k, $7636, and $7636.

    Chip counts are as follows:

    ALF - 23,4250,655
    Lucipuc81 - 6,069,169
    Yoopersdad - 4,817,676
    zvaigzde - 4,099,500

    Blinds are 300,000-600,000

I wouldn't be chopping if I'm ALF. He probably made a bad deal imo.

    They agreed to $12,500.14, $7899.95, $7737.09, and $7635.92.

And zvaigzde is 10/12 left the 3.30R 60K. Pretty sick to get through 2 10k+ fields in the same day.
  2. so wait they offered him more than what 1st got and he said no?

Honesty is the best policy.. God would strike him down pretty hard if he took that knowingly... as far as the not chopping thing.. i think its always polite to chop when given the chance.. no need to be greedy

Being polite doesn't always pay the bills.

It is somewhat funny they offered him more than 1st place money, but if the other players wanted the deal then sweet. If none of them felt confident enough to continue playing and wanted a chop that made them all more than 4th place money, sounds fine. To flat out turn down a deal that gives you without a doubt the best outcome is foolish. It's the other players responsibility to know that it's stupid to give someone more than 1st place money in a chop.
  5. thats a bad deal why would he take 14.2k when he can easily negotiate down to 12.5k

Bullet points below as to why I respectfully disagree with everything said here.

    1) Religion has nothing to do with poker. Its a game, doubt many religions support playing poker to begin with, but those that have no problem with it wouldn't say that God would strike him down for maximizing his profits in a game.

    2) Chopping is done when all parties want to chop. I hate the opinion that one must chop when down to the final few. If you feel you want to play to win, play to win. You don't see in sports guys chopping. I doubt UConn and Butler are discussing a chop right now. Online its easy enough to avoid a chop, but sometimes people in casinos get very aggressive even when there are 9 people left. 1 guy feels he has an advantage, or wants to cut the field down more, so why should he give up money?

    3) In this situation, the guy giving up money hopefully does not have a family or give money to charity. I am not saying its bad to give up more than a chip count deal (or maybe in this case was independantly agreed or ICM) says to, its fine to do if it helps facilitate a chop and you want to lock in some money. In this case though, parties already agreed to the chop, so he is basically giving away $1700. I know my family would not appreciate me giving $1700 away to random people on the internet over using it for the family. If I decided to be charitable about some of the money later, I think it would be better to donate it to one of the worthy causes I donate to occasionally. I am not sure where "honesty is the best policy" comes into play here at all as sometimes chip counts are so skewed that a chip count deal can pay the guy in the huge lead more than first place money. The other guys were happy enough with the deal being made, so basically he was just screwing himself and maybe his family.

Maybe it was Barry G, but even he would have taken the money and then donated 100% to a worthy charity or cause.
