I want to move to Canada because of the recent developments. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on this and do you think this is a good idea and am thinking about Vancouver or Toronto. Please help me with any advice that is relevant. Is it hard to get a bank account going? Can i get a photo ID? How long would all this take?
-
pretty sure it will take months and months, and it's really hard to move there unless you marry someone across the border or you are certified for a trade...otherwise idk gl, im trying to do the same but i'm just gonna go to school there and get a job once im done.

are you actually allowed to rent an apt. and stay there for the 6 months as a "visitor" or does that not count
-
Just tell them you are going for the day to visit a casino............and don't leave. Need a passport tho.

Moving to Canada as an American is very easy. We have tons of room for you guys, lol. Getting Canadian issued ID may take a month or two. Its poker heaven here in Alberta, tons of casinos, cows, cowboys, horses, and everything else associated with poker. Canadian Open is here every year. Let me know if you need any help Landlord, I'll do whatever I can to help you out. You might want to brush up on your Bob and Doug Mackenzie first eh!
Even as a Canadian, I will not be making any more deposits on these sites until the storm clouds settle. There is so much live poker here that not playing online isnt such a big deal. Calgary has more casinos then I can count. This situation is going to affect everyone eventually so I will sit back and watch and see. We do have a few more options than our friends in the States though. party poker woo hoo! lol -
i love how americans think party is some sort of license to print money now. the only reason party was good back in the day was because of all the donkey americans. once they got shut out, it became a not so juicy site imo

Dont really think a full committed moving to anoher country, any country will be easy. Canada does allow 6months visits from what I read. Read the attached, may help

How do you get from Victoria to Vancouver? Is there a bridge or is the gap too far?

There are much cheaper places don in Mexico that are like Americn communitie , I wiuld carry a big knife tho, not like he areas were they kidnap and rape all ameicas, and you can play poker I believe everyhere but America, the land of the free fkinjoke obv

ya but you cant change your location on pokerstars..... so it doesnt even matter... a story last night said a uk resident sent in a bunch of papers but couldnt change from the states to uk
-
Didn't mean it like that, it's just you really only had 2 good options in the US and I can't imagine PP is worse than playing on UB. I looked at a few Canadians profiles and didn't see PP scores so I asked.

This is incorrect. You can change your location, you always have been able to. You have to show proof of residency. Maybe he needs more than one day (the Black Friday for poker) to change his location.

We can still play everything here, including stars and Tilt. To get to Victoria from Vancouver you need to take a ferry from Horseshoe bay in North Van. Honestly I think Montreal or Calgary are the major centers in Canada for poker due to the sheer number of poker rooms and regular major tournies($100-$1000 buy-ins)
-
I live in Victoria. You get to Vancouver by taking a 2 hour ferry. Victoria does not have any poker tables but Vancouver has Canada's largest poker room at the River Rock Casino.

montreal is awsome for live poker, lots lots of ritchs live donks thoses days

dont be shy to ask any questions...on casino's,many indian's poker room's and couples of underground too -
Calgary and Montreal have the biggest scenes. I live in Calgary part time just to play live. There's at least 6 casinos and some of them have almost 20 tables. lots of regular daily tournys from $40-$100.Big monthlys at acouple of them ranging from 170-330. Canadian Open is here and it's huge! check out Grey Eagle casinos website, Deerfoot casino, Cash Casino, Canadian championship poker or the CPT has a website. The montreal scene is huge from what i hear, Playground poker is huge, Snakes poker room, more poker in Montreal than I know about that's for sure. Hope this helps some of you boys.

There is not much live poker around toronto. There are a couple of casinos, but one only offers 5/10 limit. The other only has 5 tables of 1/2 nl on a good day and 1 or 2 tables of 10/20 nl. There are some tourneys but they have a max of 110 people with buy ins from 200-1000, but they are soft fields. I wouldnt recommend moving to toronto for live poker.

How does it feel to break your five year lurking streak to answer a P5s legend? ;-)
-
op, why dont you give it a week or two and a see what happens. Hasne even been 48 hours and your already OMGGGGG i need to move to canada to get my grind on... theres a digenerate if you ask me... RELAX. see what happens in the next few weeks then make a choice. canada could be soon to follow with what has happened. You ever think of that?
-
I understand people spazzing out. Defintiely wait to see for a week or so before moving :) , but you need to know your financial options when your JOB is taken from you and money ripped from your hand essentially. I have two kids and bills so I need this to be resolved quickly or its back to my old job. We should be asking every question possible and finding remedies ASAP no matter what. It took months for the netteller mess to have clarity, and people like Ike Haxton had 600k+ held for 6months. Having tons online myself Im decently worried when Ill get it. Im sure we will get it......but when

I had no problems doing this a few years ago when I moved from US to UK. And again had no problems doing it when I moved from UK to Lithuania. It may have changed now, but wasn't a problem before and won't be a problem with partypoker.

I would suggest Quebec or Alberta for poker... if you want to go Ontario go Ottawa instead of Toronto. The only casinos near here are a solid 1.5hrs away. I always see adverts for a new poker room they opened in mtl and I know in the ottawa area casino du lac-leamy is pretty juicy at least it was a couple years ago when I lived down there. Also if you want to get real greasy there's a casino on the reserve in Cornwall called Akwesasne Mohawk Casino that has a poker room where people might as well just sign their paychecks over to you rather then play for them but it's a bit more out of the way
