Hey guys,

PocketFives Local has been our development focus for months now and we're stoked to launch them publicly.

Since the original team regained ownership of PocketFives last May we've been focused on keeping P5s relevant and modern as times change. Forums will remain at the heart of PocketFives, but we also want to reach out to a broader audience. Creating the Local Communities is step 1 in that process.

Each Country around the world and each State in the U.S. now has its own dedicated page on PocketFives - to visit the Local Community for your area click on the yellow word "Local" in the navigation menu above.

The central feature of this page is a column displaying updates on players in that location. Anytime a player in that location does something noteworthy, such as cash in a live or online tournament or win a new PocketFives badge, we'll automatically generate a post to this column. The functionality of this column will be familiar to Facebook and Google Plus users - you can add your own posts directly to this column and you can comment on and "Raise" the posts of your fellow members. Notice the FILTER option - you can choose to display only the type of updates that interest you.

Local Communities also feature detailed Stats and Rankings just for that location and a "Leaders" section that highlights the most prominent members. Check out the full list of features below.

We hope you like what you find on the new Local Communities. This type of page will serve as the basis for much of our future feature releases. We'll soon open up Local Communities in more locations. We plan to eventually have a Local Page for each city around the world that has at least a handful of PocketFives members, translated to that location's main language. We are also working on a PocketFives Rail feature - with this feature you will get to choose who you "Rail," essentially creating a Local Community-style page customized just for those PocketFives members that you wish to follow. Member Profile pages will evolve in this direction as well.

We've got solid ideas for where we want to go, but your feedback and input will greatly shape the direction we take things from here. Please check these pages out and let us know what you think here in this thread. We've bug tested them thoroughly, but with the launch of a feature with this much new functionality it's inevitable that we've missed some things. If you find any bugs please email them into support@pocketfives.com, and let us know what browser you are using.

Chipleader - biggest cash, last three months
Grinder - most cashes, last three months
Table Captain - most wall posts, last three months.

Detailed Stats for each Location
Various stats, including:
Total # of members
Total cashes by all members
Largest cash all time
Most cashes all time
Recently logged in members
And more...

Referrals Section - we need your help growing P5s Local communities. These tools will make it easy for you to refer your friends, and you may win some P5s Gear in the process.

PokerNearMe
States with live poker tournaments also have a "PokerNearMe" that shows upcoming live tournaments at any casino in their state!

Yeah, kudos to Cal and the PocketFives development team for doing a bang-up job on this. We're very excited to get Local rolled out.

Ps Have you considered having the countries within the UK represented seperately, I think it would make the Local communities even better as we each have a strong national identity of our own

Great feedback, thank you very much. We are definitely planning to do quite a bit more branching out locally - that is to say having more "regional" pages within countries and also city pages. The four countries within the UK should be included in that, and I'm glad you brought it to our attention since those are particularly important in terms of how people identify locally.

Thanks for the suggestion. We have something similar on the WorldWide Rankings Page, which displays a column for Previous Rank. We'll take this graphical representation into consideration.

This seems like a pretty cool idea, I haven't really had time to check it out yet but definitely will. I think it would be cool to do some kind of local charity/cause competition where each community finds some kind of local charity/cause to benefit and sets some kind of $ goal based on size of community etc to reach every 3 months or so.. maybe each leader of the community could assign a person to research a list of charities and we could do badges or something for recognition. I don't know what everyone thinks, I'm playing a ton of games right now but I think this would be something pretty cool and a way for us to give a little bit back.

Hey Vinkyy, great to get your feedback on this. There will be something similar for the "friend" concept, although it probably won't have much/anything to do with the current friend system we have here on the site which hasn't really been developed much. We're actually talking this week about the specifics so that we can start developing it. Hopefully it'll be something we can roll out very soon!

Very cool.. maybe add "FRIENDS" as well.. so you only see the results of your friends in P5s.
