  1. I was waiting for permission from His wife Marie to share the sad news that Rick Velilla aka WACHOVIA passed away on May 14th. Rick was a very respected member of the poker community and a Dear friend of mine. Most of the poker community never got to know the side of Rick that I did. Not only was he a fierce poker player, a loving husband, father and he was a very important part of his church. All that really knew Rick will miss him greatly. Rick and I had just spoke that week about the fate of online poker and for that I am thankful.

I will miss you my friend!

    RIP

When I first started learning poker and following the big names he was one of the first I remember following. Subsequently he was also one of the first big names I ever played with on the virtual felt. I remember chatting with him on the rail, saying how much I respect him and what not and all I remember is him being very gracious and a little bit self effacing in response.

Condolences to all that were close to him.

  17. Terrible news. I never know what to say in this circumstances. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

  23. This is really sad. I met Rick in Vegas and he was a featured guest on the podcast back in 2006. He was a genuinely nice, well-meaning person who cared about others. RIP Mr. Velilla... the game won't be the same without you.

  24. I remember a few years ago when I had my biggest score to date I pmd wachovia about a bad beat I put on him after he said he was having a really bad run of cards. He was very supportive and wished me continued success not even knowing who I was. I actually saved the email because of how much it meant to me.

RIP wachovia, you will be missed.

  29. I never would have become a professional poker player without Wach's help, and for that I owe him a great deal. With that said, I will always remember him as one of the most genuine and caring people I have ever met. He will be missed.

  30. Wachovia is literally the reason I joined P5s. We were both ultra-competitive at the tables in '04/'05 and weren't big fans of each other, but after meeting him in person in Vegas, I changed my opinion. He was a very nice guy who was just passionate about what he did.

RIP Wachovia. You will be missed.
