Story for those who haven't heard... http://www.mpcpoker.com/who-won-the-...father-or-son/
General opinion must be that he should lose the money? even though some of the top100 ranked players admit to playing underage? -
Not according to pokerstars TOS, Pstars is fully within their rights to keep all the money, thats the risk you run playing underage, even though its not frowned on generally in the poker community, its still against Pokerstars rules.
The real issue seems to be, what does pokerstars do with the money if they choose to take it? redistribute it to all the players who made the money in the tournament or just amongst the final table? -
Wow sick 2$-500k$
But against the rules, he shouldn't get the $ -
pretty much my stance, I would give sick odds half the top 100 players played underage and would have wanted people on forums to say give the kid the money.

They should chop it 50,000 ways. A piece for every entrant -
This is what I'm interested in. No way he should get to keep a dime. While it is impressive or just lucky, it's against the rules. He knew it, his dad knew it and then they tried to cover it up once they got busted.

When it happened in the 2009 SCOOP to someone I know, Stars told him they were donating his share of the winnings to gambling related charities.

I think the main difference is that they were never caught doing it. If pokerstars catches an underage player and doesn't do anything about it then that's a horrible business decision for them. If they bend on this then what else?

they should take the money and give it to the dude who finished 579th. imo.
-
lol this was the same guy who was holding up the chop discussion for like 10 mins insisting that he should get 600k instead of 500k...
If he loses this 500k, I'm not going to feel that bad for him. -
Regardless of age, the kid TID. If they disqualify him for age restrictions, it should be credited to his parents, with the stipulation he receives it when he is of age.
If they are going to make him the poster child for underage players, every player online, new account or old, should have to sumbit proof of age before establishing or continuing play with a real money account... The only people that would hurt is US, the community as a whole...
How many old cruster fkrs like me do you think play online 60 - 70 hours a week? Not many. The bulk of the online players are college aged and under. I have no problem with this, as long as they are not colluding, cheating etc. I say let them play.

Lol...j/k...j/k -
Take the MONEY away from him IMO
-
with out a doubt the underaged player should be able to get the money.
-
lol, I was going to post something similar. I'd feel bad for the guy if it does get taken away, but as others have said, rules are the rules, and if you're going to break them, make it less obvious that you're underage.
-
This is a seperate argument...the question is not whether he SHOULD be allowed to play at age 17, it's that it IS against the Pstars rules and should they ignore a rules violation because of the amount of money involded and the magnitude of the tournament...

FYP. It's a blatant violation of the TOS. I don't want stars or Tilt to start arbitrarily deciding when to enforce the TOS and when not to. That's a very dangerous precedent. If you violate the TOS then you face the consequences, period.

Understood. I agree, he broke the TOS agreement.

My only point is this: If they forfeit his winnings, PStars should verify EVERY account to ensure players are of legal age. We can't have it both ways. If this kid was on cash tables donking away thousands to regs a week, where would the travesity of justice be then?
I have no dog in this fight. I don't know the young man in question. We can't bust out a young guy who made a score in a major, and continue to allow underaged players to play ring games and MTTs everyday of the week because their game is weak.
Again just my .02 -
I think he should get to keep it, but if he doesn't I don't see how stars would do anything but give it back to the players. Charity is cool and all but it's not Stars money to give away, it's the players money.
-
i think the best way to do this is have him play isildur for 200k hands HU and he gets to keep what he wins or has left. seems like a good promotion to follow the 5 mill.
-
cant give him the money... just says you cant play under age, but no big deal if you do.
ship it to bad beats imo... -
Why would you play if you knew ahead of time that you have to be 18 to play legally? There's no where in the world that I know of where you can legally gamble at 17, and it clearly states in the rules that it's not legal at PS. IMO it is a sick accomplishment and would love to see him get the money, but I highly doubt PS will risk there reputation and set a bad precedent by allowing it.
And for the record, not that I condone it, but wtf dad? You're supposed to have a plan of action if your kid were to bink a score of that magnitude.
