  1. So, I don't want this to sound like a rant or anything like that. It is just an honest question, looking for decent answer. So anytime someone posts about wanting help or the whole thread we had about how people feel p5s is on the downgrade when it comes to helping othere p5ers out, the issue of "why should someone who has spent years learning to be profitable at the game, teach someone their tricks for free?" or something alone the lines of why should they help others to provide more competition for themselves. Which I think is completely understandable.

My question is basically, so why then, when it comes to HSMTTs would other HSMTT regs be so willing to help each other? I mean helping out a random with whether it would be profitable to shove his AQ after being 3bet and throwing in a lil about the stack sizing doesn't seem nearly as hurtful to their bottomline as one HSMTT reg posting a hand and revealing their thought process and reads on players (who they all play with everyday) and then someone responding with their thought process on the hand and what they would do in that spot. I would imagine the competition in HSMTTs is ridiculous and giving away any edge like your thought process on specific spots for all your opponents to see cannot be as helpful as the feedback you receive from it. Plus whoever replies to said thread would be divulging their own thought process and giving away free information about their own style, not to mention if you're the villian in the hand and being able to see how the Hero interprets your game. Just seems like playing for that much money against regular competition, giving away such important information for free would not be a smart thing to do.

Again, not complaining about it at all, I actually think its a cool forum and I hope that the HSMTT regs post a ton of hands and get a ton of responses so I can see and learn from their thought processes. I just never understood the arguement for it, nor how it is actually helpful giving away that free information on your game to regs.

    CLIFF NOTES:
    - Is HSMTT forum -ev because your giving away free information
    - Thinks its a great forum and hopes it succeeds
  2. well..I guess giving information is essential for other/yourself to evaluate your game.
    not really -EV...
  3. Maybe they will give misinformation thus creating mind numbing metagame leveling!?!?

They aren't evaluating their own game tho, those replying are the ones evaluating the posters game in this circumstance. Basically saying, I've been doing this and this against villian because i know this and this about said villian. Now this situation has arose, wwyd? That's not self evaluation, thats having others evaluate it, which is helpful, im just sayin in games so full of regs at that stakes, giving away that information seems like giving away money.

Well i was gonna write to that before i realized my OP was prolly too long as is and assumed someone would mention it. On this note tho, if people aren't replying about what they would honestly do and instead saying the opposite, what help does that give to the person who posts a HH in the HSMTT forum?

Like i said, I'm not against the idea at all. I enjoy reading through good wwyd hands, just kinda curious as to the need to give away free info. Maybe some HS reg can shed some light on it for me.

  5. We'll see how much action the forum gets, no one really knows how it will turn out. We're going to give it at least a few months and see what happens. Obviously there may be some -EV aspect about some of what might happen in the forum but I don't think it's really all that significant. I think good regs can benefit more by talking through ideas and thinking about the game than what they lose by helping someone else understand a concept.
