  1. How do I stay away from these games. I feel like I win all my hard earned money from poker just to dump it here. Is there a way I can avoid these. Or do I have a sick disease where I just have to gamble :(
  2. im gonna go with sick disease.

  3. u have to think outside the box,u have to be smarter than the avg. bear

just say to yourself those are games of chance and you're not here to chance your money

walk by those tables with a smile,i dont even think about them, when u hear other players talkn about how hot the bj tbls are just laugh in your mind, that these peeps are suckers playn a house favored game of chance

this really does require mental training ,u need to seriously practice a pre-planned routine, and make your mind mentally tougher

i speak through experience, its imperative that you learn to walk in a casino and play a game of skill than have the ability to walk out the door

dude try this step ,walk into the casino walk by everything in there than walk outside, realize what u did than either play some poker or go get a b ite to eat and realize that those other games aint no big deal

It's funny that I play pretty well in poker and for some reason because I won 5k one time in under 30 minutes, I think that I will be able to make that run again. I've consistently been dumping to that stupid game and even in my head I realize how stupid I actually am thinking I can beat it. It's super frustrating :( Mind Control and self control is probably the best sollution. But are there steps to take besides doing that? I love the walk throughout the casino and laugh at all the donks. That one I just might have to try.

  9. Just a matter of self control and acting professional about trying to earn a serious living as a gambler. If you have to ask this question then its obvious you lack the self control and discipline to make a serious living gambling. If your only a recreational player and poker is not your main source of income then its not that serious an issue since you have money coming in from other outlets, but its still cutting down your overall income nonetheless.

  10. Drink less alcohol, hot women can also be good influences or helpful in keeping you out of the pit if you know a good girl. I'm being serious.

Everything kyan said was right on also. I wear headphones & lap the casino at times to focus, pre game routine & just march right by the pit. Take a look at the facial expressions of the people there, the majority aren't too happy that helps me also..

  11. i use to degen at casino house games, but once i started making money from poker, i no longer felt the need to play house games, poker satisfies that part of me, And now i can easily walk past them all infact i never play those games anymore, can go with friends and watch dont ever feel interested. Poker should satisfy you enough that you dont need those games, but obviously not, hmm. Try be strong.

It's dumb because I'm so addicted that it's damn near impossible to stop. I feel the need to play even if I win a tourney or win at cash games. My game I think is definitely beatable at casinos and tourneys live. I'm not that bad. Tons of leaks but I'm still thinking I'm profitable enough where I could have a chance at making this my living. It all comes down to stupid fucking blackjack! Goddddd! I need self control classes :( that and money management too.

that is true. Come to think of it, I never see too many happy people around the pit areas. I need to do this! Self Control! Being positive is a way to success as well I think.

  13. You have a lot of complaints in other threads. You don't sound like you are doing great or going down a good path. If you have any real aspirations to play poker you have to lay off the casino games. You know it's a gamble and you know the math. I think you should stay out of casinos. Play more online. You need to avoid these areas and change your thinking about money. It's important to hold onto money if you want to play. You are never going to have a real bankroll if you keep doing that. Even if you won $500,000 tomorrow. You would be back betting it away. I know old gamblers and it's a sad life.
  14. Or you can have a limit, but that takes discipline too. What you do, is you have 1 bet (2 is optional, 3 starts pushing it, but anything over 3 is bad). If you lose your first bet, you can bet again, if you lose the 2nd you should quit, but if you go to a 3rd and lose, you have to quit.

Now if you win the first bet, let it ride, if you lose you can only bet up to 1 bet below break even. Let the first bet ride until you lose, then if you're up enough you can make one more bet, but if you lose quit.

For example since it was probably really confusing.
Say your original bet is $50 or whatever it is normally. If you win keep playing, if you lose, you can put another 50, but if you lose a 2nd time you should quit. If you win again, just let it ride and everytime you get a decent amount of money, pocket some and don't bring it back in, unless you have to double down.

This strategy will save you money, and gives u the potential to win as well. Also the good thing about some places with lots of tables is, if you're getting screwed you can switch tables to hopefully a better one.

But it's probably better to not even play, my advice was only if you can't avoid it.

  15. hmmmm or imanthegreat gives me a good idea! you should go to bacarat its best casino game odds take 5 barrels start from $50 if lose bet $100 if lose bet $200 if lose bet $400 if lose bet $800 you would have to lose 5 flips in a row!? whats the odds haha ;) and stop after 5 unless u have enough to go 6,7,8,9,10 :P ;)

  16. gamblers anonymous was great for me and my m8 we both play poker and blew all our winnings and we were terrible gamblers ah mean as bad as you can get win a tourney for 2k then lose 3 the next day at the bookies it relly opens your eyes but 1 thing ill say is dont tell them you play poker you dont want to open that door

  17. Start forcing yourself to take at least 5-10 seconds for EVERY decision at the poker table. Then start taking that time to make every decision at the casino. Force yourself to truly assess everything and you'll notice the self control starts to come more naturally.

Stop eating sugar. Go cold turkey on that shit, it takes amazing self control if you're a normal sugar-eating human being and that will help you use discipline in other parts of your life. If physically able, start working out every day. Even just forcing yourself to knock out ten pushups when you've been sitting at the computer and don't want to do aaaanything works hard on the self control muscle in your brain and will work wonders
  18. Some good advice overall. Gamblers Anonymous would be best. Sick gamblers, degens, and casual players are where poker players make the bulk of their money. If you are a winning player in poker (Start keeping records to see if you really are, and not just looking through a gamblers eyes) then you are still preyed upon by the casino the same way the fish are in poker. Seriously, just ask yourself if you want to be a fish at anything.

This is some really great advice and I thank you for it! Thanks all the posters. I'm going to start working out every day because I feel like it will transition into mind control and self discipline. A strong mind won't hurt and making rash decisions on the spot are usually bad when it comes to casino games so I am going to do my very best to avoid them AT ALL COSTS. Doesn't seem profitable EVER. Even if I'm stuck in poker, tomorrow will always be another game, and obviously I know I can crush the live donks!

  20. Im guessing this is happening at a live casino, If this is the case- try using a different door to enter and exit the casino so that you dont have walk by the pit area. Find a poker playing friend that can help keep you accountable. Add up all the money you have lost in the pit games- this should make you sufficently sick to your stomach.
  21. roulette's a pretty shitty game. bj is also a sucker game.

It's way past throwing up. I'm throwing up my lungs, that's about how bad it's gotten. Win a tourney for 8100$ live only to piss it away after a couple weeks of sick trips in Blackjack. I'm 21 years old with tons of ambition, I'm too smart to be wasting away at crap shoots/ blackjack. This pocket fives thread is probably the best thing for me. A bunch of people older and much wiser than me showing me the ropes. I thank all of you. I promise to give updates !

  24. Cut the emotional tie to the money u lost in the pits. Once u write it off as a loss and forget it u can move on Ur not gonna get even the money u lost is gone.

not this ......this is just degen thinking ,notice he says the word's should and unless, the whole point is to train yourself to a point that u have 100% zero urge to play any game other than poker

remember poker is the only game of skill at any casino anywhere in the world............and no not 3 or 4card poker those are chance games

I have multiple friends that cant get rid of the "urge" even after alot of years playing at casinos, Sometimes the only way is to practice avoidance until you can eventually control yourself. The reality of the situation is if you cant find a way to stay away from casino games when you go to play poker, you wont ever be a succesful poker player. Most people find this out the hard way after they dump all their earnings from poker onto the BJ tables.
  29. just like many have already said, its self control. Just don't mix those games with your poker. There are times i go to the casino with the wife for pure fun to play the house games and not poker. but when your going to grind out poker, dont even consider the other games a possibility. IDK i guess you just have to teach yourself to seperate the two
