Online poker as we know it is probably gone. If/when U.S regulation passes we're presumably looking at a fragmented ipoker market long into the future.

Is it time then for P5's to create a new USA rankings system? I realize one can sort by country but what really needs to be done is an entirely new PLB system that would be completely separate from the current 'world' rankings. Instead it would only count USA sites (or sites still accepting U.S players). The PLB would need to count tournament fields of all sizes since fields are now very small.
This is just an idea. I think a PLB system for US players would be mutually beneficial for U.S grinders - giving us something competitive to do while we are grinding 5k guarantees, and also profitable for p5's as it will presumably drive more traffic to the site since a lot of the U.S players seemed to have stopped visiting the site.
If nothing else, it would lay the framework for when many of us are playing on MGM or Caesar's WSOP in a few years. -
I like that idea for several reasons. When I was playing on Cake and now Lock, I entered a lot of small field or lower buy-in events out of necessity. There just arent always the tournaments you want all the time. But playing a $5 freezeout is sometimes better than playing nothing. Cake especially had lots of tournaments that got really small fields. I think those efforts should be accounted for somehow in the rankings, as well as the cash history.
One issue though is how to handle sites that allow US players, but no new signups. We've been hearing that Merge might allow new US signups but who knows if or when that will happen. And hero is apparently closed indefinitely to US signups. But I like this idea overall. -
1. most scores don't count b.c field sizes on the US sites are so small - this includes the nightly $216 high roller, and a bunch of the $60 &$30 rebuys
2. a player moving to canada still playing on stars and having not updated his/her p5's profile has a ridiculously large advantage
3. this is the way things are headed, fragmented pools, the rankings system needs to be tailored to each player pool - it's not a one shoe fits all deal -
the rankings are clearly all fucked up since black friday...
many US players have mainly stopped playing, and are simply falling in the rankings (myself included)...a way to fix this? i don't think there is one...just gotta wait and see where poker is in the US in a year and re-evaluate then

the writing is pretty much on the wall that the U.S is going to be segregated from the rest of world (at least for several years) once legislation is passed.

if p5's wants to keep US members interested in their forum it only makes sense to create a new USA PLB, preferably now rather than later. we're probably never going to have a 'world' player pool again so new PLB's need to be drawn up. -
pretty sure there are more ppl in the world than just US players, so to get an accurate WORLD rankings you need it to be standard throughout, dont see why judging US players should be any different to others

the plb system was never perfect, rewarding purely volume which isnt 100% accurate, not sure what you can do to make it any better
pretty sure field size for PLB was reduced post black friday anyway -
just figured US players will completely fall off the PLBs. Would make it more entertaining and possibly increase motivation to grind more if we did change this. Agree with Apology on this
-
True. Its now a $500 prizepool and 75 entrants minimum.

Edited By: apology7 Jul 31st, 2011 at 09:44 PMa US rankings system is strictly for fun. it would be completely separate with completely different criteria than the world rankings. no one is going to take it too serious, and it's not as if it's going to affect the foreign playersOriginally Posted by mcandrews3rd

US players would still be in the world pool too, that would remain unchanged. this would NOT affect you and other non-americans so I have no idea why you care. -
There already are rankings for the US though, are you suggesting a badge for the US rankings in top 100 or something like that? if so, not a bad idea.
-
i think apologys idea has merit, it would be cool to have rankings for us based sites for ppl that still grind..
I also agree that if such a sytem is implemented it should include the fields that are currently excluded such as the high roller and 60r
Cool idea not sure how much work it would be for the mods -
what hes trying to say is that merge only has a few amount of mtt's that meet the new req. of $500 and 75players... make it smaller then that for US players and give them there own new post black friday ranking system! and i agree with this 100%
