  1. The amount of negative comments at the end of that article tilts me so hard. Somebody actually said "If you think there are consistent winners in poker then you are lying to yourself."

people just don't understand but will get so worked up over things that don't involve them at all.

Welcome to America, where freedom includes the ability to listen to Rush Limbaugh and be a driveling Neanderthal retard completely devoid of logical thought processes.
  3. Comments at the end of most articles on big sites are pretty awful. Wouldntt get too tilted.

  4. "A number of gaming companies are advancing after the Wall Street Journal, citing legal experts, reported yesterday that a Justice Department opinion could enable states to legalize most forms of online gambling within their borders."

party Gaming, IGT, and Shuffle Master are all up nicely this morning.

The Justice Department opinion and Wall Street's recognition of it are both very good news for our cause.
  5. NYT article was great too, some quotes from it:

"'This will put additional pressure on Congress and others to allow online poker and other Internet gambling,' Mr. Grossman said. "

""The new policy merely reverses the Justice Department’s longstanding position that all forms of online gambling are illegal in the United States. It does not necessarily pave the way for national rules governing online gambling. "

"experts in gambling law said Saturday that the new policy does imply that states can band together to allow gambling across state borders."

"Those [federal, UIGEA] payment restrictions do not apply to transactions within a single state, however. With the ruling that the Wire Act applies only to sports betting, the way is clear for in-state online poker and other games. "

those were from the NYT piece. from another piece (reuters CA), I. Nelson Rose, a gaming law expert who's been fairly outspoken recently, said, "The department's conclusion would eliminate 'almost every federal anti-gambling law that could apply to gaming that is legal under state laws." & "If a state legalized intra-state games such as poker, as Nevada and the District of Columbia have done, 'there is simply no federal law that could apply"

point is, DOJ's little revelation here (2 months later, the pricks, but originally beforeeeee "ponzi scheme" accusations?hmm) is fantastic. Despite neither the UIGEA nor this recent DOJ statement including the term poker once (language clearly isn't explicitly or definitively pro-poker under any interpretation) the way these major media outlets are picking this all up, the spin this is all sort of getting-- taking in the current climate/context-- well it's developing wonderfully. Too many jurisdictions around the country have waited on some sort of sign, some green or yellow light from the doj at all on this, and with little else now in play, with so few other rules out on the books, and with the doj taking a decisive pass on clarifying much further really, they're certainly not stopping the impending states mobilizations. I mean this week had the AP punk flipped & pleading guilty on some absurdly reduced plea bargain, then vegas throws a unanimous stamp on the pro-poker intrastate effort in the state legislature, & then immediately DOJ releases some september ruling that clearly narrows their own legal counsels impression of the scope of their power under the law as its written-- this bullshit carte blanche presumed-illegal grey-area leverage heinousness they've been overreaching to maintain-- well that's eroding. this may simplify federal efforts in that it's less a web of overlap, and more concentrated around the uigea and that other illegal gambling act of recent years--- they may turn what was poorly written & vague into something more defined and enforceable-- obv we're shooting for that poker carveout.

but no matter what, state pressure plays a critical role, especially w/ reid double playing this industry both thru the state legislature & through his big role in the senate. some real momentum was created w/ this & it'll spur a legal pulse of the industry domestically online. domino effect will commence in state legalization especially depending on which players will be ready to move most quickly, both at the polls & w/ local firms. the indian nation's still gonna play a big role, maybe this state push can scare them into fearing losing that seat they'd been earning at d'amato's & barton's table to discuss the poker-only specifics more in detail. they need to see a federal compromise or they risk bankruptcy as a nation. they'd ideally like to see this poker trial run run smoothly or if mistakes be made, they're made now, when much less is on the line (they'd be risking laughably small margins in their overall profits/revenues--but as a trial experiment, any foraying into the online era is critical, because they need to know they can rise to the competition if pandora's box bursts open & every state's citizens have the right/protection to play the slots online). hell even governor's like christie might have a hard time ignoring this now with lesniak throwing this squarely in his face-- he'd really have to muster some presidential courage to jump in at the last second, but his window on the primaries is closing. then it's just a question of how quickly other governors may follow stride-- PA w/ parx has had crazy competition plays over AC & CT run gaming. genting's bursting NYC open. NY's still got indian tribes. there's gonna be a huge power push, and the more people running the race, the more broke governor's who succumb and strengthen the state effort, the faster congress will have to see if it'd really like to erect that national framework. CA's not waiting for anyone & @ 37mil ppl & half the size of germany, they're a real & viable threat. & vegas is about to round 2nd base on feb 1st when that ship sails. then why shouldn't party waltz right in, with an apology and maybe a reimbursement from the DOJ on that $300million wire act offense that clearly just got reversed. why can't party operate immediately in CA? in NV? why can't they immediately begin some crazy marketing campaign from their legal & local office?

the US race is really just starting-- this should be great to watch unfold. then genting brings in a few $2bil casinos into miami and blows the jersey pier and the idiotic desert gaming oasis off the map as premiere US tourist/gaming destinations. & by that time .de & .it & .es & .fr & .de again (1st de was germany, 2nd de is denmark) will all have linked up. maybe the euro zone won't be in complete collapse. maybe they'll lower the damn price on a pint of beer over there. and then in 2013 we're in some beautiful mass intertwined globalized international cohesive player pool again, all the fish too, and everyone at the WTO will be smiling.

bring it on! edit the damn book, congress.
  6. Let's all keep participating in the Daily Action Plan! Congress is more likely to look at this now, so let's all be sure to bookmark the thread. Thanks!

Sir, there is no time for silly things like "logic" and "thinking". We need action now!
