2. Gags, thanks for doing this, all of your answers have been really interesting to read.

I am a low/mid stakes player, and feel I am more solid on the math side of the game, but know that I am really weak at assigning ranges. Do you have any tips to work on this skill?
3. just wanted to say this is the best well ive read on p5s. thanks for doing this gags. gl in everything you decide to do!

constantly be thinking about what other people have. even if you're not in the hand, watch what's going on at your table and try to figure out who has what. after a hand is over and you see someone's hand at showdown, go back through the hh and be like, ok well why were they making each move..they had AQ they called to see a flop, flop came out Q62 and he bet when he was checked to...ok turn was a K and he just checked now so maybe he was scared of the K...and when river came another K he decided his Q was good and bet again. that's obviously a simple hand..but still, it's important to understand that he did in fact check when the K came...so your QJ, if he bet teh turn would have been a spot where a lot of people would be really polarized an only betting 2pair/sets or total air, and if our opponent isn't really aggressive, then our call with QJ would most likely be bad.

things like that...just constantly be thinking and trying to range people.

also, don't assign people ranges based on how you would play a hand....you read p5's and play a lot, and are most likely way better than the average player. so just because betting with 3rd pair in a spot would be 'bad' in your eyes, doesn't mean that this opponent is not doing it.

practice practice practice...the more hands you see, the easier this will get

glad you're enjoying the well so far!

5. Gags, 1st off it has been a pleasure to speak w you in chats and the brief moment at WSOP. I always enjoyed playing with you at the tables and felt you gave your all in every tournament you played in.

1. What would be a salary you would need to make post taxes to do this for a living and not look for other ways of income?

2. How often would you defend the bb these days? I know this is really broad and not looking for a % just more of a synopsis and ways to make it profitable v certain opponents.

3. Do you feel some lower midstake players level themselves in hands more than they should? I feel it's hard for me to play a tourney based on player pool and this could be a huge leak

4. Easiest way for a mtt player to adjust to cash, it's a much different game and I'm
Struggling live to get away from mtt strategy.

Thanks, hope to see you at Borg sometime.

6. thanks for doing a well, good read, made me sign-on for the first time in a long time, and gives me perspective on some of our hands and your mindset going in. I'm definately was one of those regs at midstakes that you can go after. I think my mindset on that is, i generally just don't mind staying out of people's way when they are on my left. With a tighter range all around, the ev lost isn't going to be a big deal if it's not happening all the time.

I seem to flop only sets or mid pairs against you though, so there's was a ton of check call, check call, check. (fold or shove) From what I remember at least, it seems to be our predominant post flop history.

One thing I want to question is your concept of "raping people in hands" I think it's glorious and all and would love to reach that level, but my issue is how much of an edge are we talking about. I've heard this term a ton and from the other side of the coin I feel like I lose certain pots I shouldn't but I gain a ton of ev on other hands.

I try to balance my range when given the opportunity but realistically we are human and not computers and can't actually remember all the instances of how balanced we are. I just wonder if the concept is overvalued in poker education.

As for questions.

1. Why do you think there is so much gay humor in the online mtt community?
2. Have you ever said hope you die in real life conversation with a nonpoker person? (i did once, it was interesting)
3. Do you think 3betting has anything to do with ego or it's just that profitable.
4. I see very good players still 3 bet fold in spots when it seems very very likely they are getting 4bet to me at least. Do you think these players are trying to establish a 3bet folding percentage or were just 3 betting too aggressively.
5. Can we still be friendly if I still hate Andressopano.

hey appst...def was cool to meet you as well

1. um, you mean just play poker...i've just done this for the last almost 3 years. minimum i'd have to make? i'm not sure, anywhere close to what i could make ina 'normal' job. if the best normal job i could get would make me 50k/year then if i could make probably like low 40's playing poker i'd def do it. poker just gives you so much freedom to do what you want, when you want, i dont think i'd pass that up to have a 9-5 grind of a job

2. i hate defending the bb. you're oop and things are just going to be difficult. that being said, i obviously do defend some % of playable hands. i really hate defending hands like 87s and stuff like that, i'd much rather just 3b. as 3betting is getting less effective though i think you have to flat more, and i have been doing it more often recently

3. absolutely. they always think that people are bluffing them or 3b them light or 'going after them', when in reality most players are just playing their 2 cards. abc poker will get you absurdly far in low and mid stakes and you really shouldn't stray away from this except for extreme circumstances.

4. you have to understand that cash is a completely different animal than mtts. not only are stacks wayyyy deeper, but ranges are a lot different. in an mtt when you have 30bb, on a K33 board your KT very well may be good to just get it in. in cash when you're so much deeper people may not stack off as light (and hey, sometimes they stack off even lighter cause it's live cash and they're some retard who can't fold, lol). also, people are so used to doing things pre-flop like opening certain hands and flatting certain hands. again, in an mtt when you're short, opening K5s from mp is probably profitable. if you hit anything you can just get it in, fi youmiss you just cbet and take it down. in cash you're so much deeper that these opens become way more marginal at a lot of tables, and even bad in a lot of spots. the last biggest thing is people's bluffing frequency. this is especially true live...people just don't bluff as much. in mtts most players register knowing that that they're gonna lose their buy-in. whether it's a $10mtt or a $50 mtt most people generally don't expect to win. once they get into the money they feel like they're freerolling...so are more likely to be comfortable bluffing off their chips (at least somewhat...and this may not even be a conscious thought)...but in cash, even if they expect to lose what they buy-in for, they still have the money in front of them, and don't wnat to watch it going into the pot. if they bluff and get caught they feel like they played poorly, where as i they call down with 2nd pair and you have top pair they think they got unlucky and the cards screwed them...it's just a different mind-set. plus not to mention that bluffing is scary live, and embarrassing to a lot of people when they get caught. they don't have that safety of the internet to hide behind.

hey man, glad you're enjoying the well.

you definitely are partially correct. if you just play tight, and stay out people's way it's not going to big a big ev loss. however on the flip side, if you can outplay these people and get all their chips, then you can stand to gain a ton of ev. say my even in a given hand at a random table is +100 chips (totally made this number up out of thin air, but for the sake of the argument assume it's accurate...for allt he hands i play and fold at a table, averaging all my wins and losses, my ev/hand is roughly +100 chips). ok so, for the first part of this example, we're playing like you...we're fairly tight, not mega-nit or anything but just solid. stealing a little from late position when we get an ok suited connector or suited ace, but just not getting super out of line. with a really aggressive player 2 to our left...not much is going to change in our game. the only thing we'll probably do is open a tiny bit tighter and fold some of those marginal openings. but what you maybe don't realize is that this player is ognna 3b you a lot and try to take advantage of the fact that you're playing tight and aren't going to 4b a ton. but even though he's doing that, our opening range is fairly tight, and we know he's aggressive, so we still can 4b with a ton of hands. so overall, maybe he gets us to fold like our QJs and stuff cause we dont want to 4b those, but for the most part our range doens't change dramatically. we're probably only losing a little bit of our ev...maybe 5%, mayyyybe 10% if we're not 4 betting that correctly. so let's say 90 or so.

on the other hand. if we're more of an aggressive player, like myself, well, 2 things happen. for starters, our ev is probably going to be higher from the start, because we're ideally going to be picking on the weaker opponents and abusing those who are folding fromt he blinds too much and doing a lot of stealing...but for the sake of the argument i'll say that my ev is still just 100. ok, now, a lot of my ev is made up from stealing the blinds and stuff like that. so with a really aggressive player, who is 3b a lot and making my life hell, he's actually going to hurt my game a lot more. i'm not going to be able to open like i was, and going to be missing out on a ton of opportunities, so if i just totally nit up he's going to cut my ev by quite a bit. on the flip side...if i'm able to go after him and 'rape him' (as i so eloquently put it, lol)...then tha'ts a huge stack of chips that i usually would not get at a normal table. if we go to war and i come out on top, that's boosting my ev by a tonnnn. so in your case, you probably lose 5 maybe 10% at most. in mine, i stand to lose a bit more if i can't play my aggressive game, maybe 15 or 20%...but on the flip side, going to war and winning is a huge boost, and added ev that i usually don't get.

this may sound like it's a lot higher variance, but in fact, playing a style where you don't need cards to pick up chips is actually lower variance. you aren't at the mercy of the deck and what you get dealt...you constantly are accumulating even with rags. you go deeper more often as a result of this, and also cash more, therefore lowering variance

idk, i hope that sort of makes sense, it's kind of confusing, it made sense in my head

also, when i'm talking about crushing people and going to war with them, it's not really about balancing at all. people for whatever reason have this illusion that all really good mtt regs are like super balanced and that's why they're good and tough to play against. i'll be the first to tell you, i'm not fucking balanced at allllllllllll. balance is so over-rated. there are soooo many variables in an mtt that you rarely rarely rarely have the exact same spot. even if i open a 25bb stack from the cutoff in 2 spots...little things like, idk, how many people are left, the size of the blinds, the stacks of the people in teh blinds, the reads/tendencies of poeple int he blinds, etc...all greatly greatly affect my range in this spot. my range there vs tight players in the blinds could be like 40% some of the time...and vs certain aggressive players it's probably liek 15%. these aggressive players often times just look at stack size and are like oh he could be light...i'm all in. and if i have it are like oh it's a cooler...they don't realize thta they're making bad plays and that my ranges are different. that's not balance at all

another good example is flatting with AA...like, if someone raises and you have 18bb and flat AA. it works. it doens't matter if your range is literally KK+, it will still work. even if they know that you have KK+, if most players hit a pair they still can't ever fold ever. and frankly, they're right...they shoudln't fold...cause most random players are dolts and show up with much wider than KK+ there. the only way they coudl fold is if they KNOW you're a really solid player who never shows up with worse, and they're also good enough to recognize this, and actually fold top pair if they hit it. this combo of reads/reactions is fairly rare...

the only time it pays to be slightly balanced is obviously vs regs who you play against a lot. but even then, things like gameflow dictate a lot more spots than history and being balanced. the like ONLY time you should be balanced vs a random is blind vs blind when stacks are shorter. if like, he has 20bb and you're sb with a lot...your raising %/folding %/ and shoving % should all be somewhat balanced. vs a kind of competent random player you should prolly be like raise/calling top 20%, open shoving whatever is unexploitable/profitable (so porlly next like 40% or so), then raise/folding a % the same as your raise calling %, so another 20%, and then just folding the rest/bottom of the deck. even here you can cheat and r/f a ton more hands...cause most of the time you won't have enough spots for them to really know you're balanced

ya, you really don't even have to be balanced there, lol.

idk, being balanced in mtts is really just dumb and a waste of time

1. tbh i'm not sure...but i would venture to say that pokerjamers is the one that started it, and still is fueling it every day

2. umm, i don't think so. i was never a big fan of 'hud'. i say 'rape' a lot tho, which isn't always received great depending on the company. i also got to explain 'cage' to someone the other day, as in 'i caged this guy'. i say 'oi' like all the time. or just like 'nah i'm over that guy let's leave him here' that's easier to understand tho, so people don't always know it's poker related

3. 3 betting def has to do with egos some of the time. people thinkt hey're badass when they do it. idk...as more and more people 3bet and 4bet, 3betting just becomes less and less profitable. the biggest thing about 3betting that made it so great is that people would just fold to you. if they didn't fold, they would just check/fold. now they like, call you and call your cbets or c/r cbets or just go all in pre-flop...it's dumb. i actually have been 3betting less and doing a lot of other secretive things.

3betting still works great vs randoms in the right spots (deep in tourneys, final table bubbles, shorthanded, etc.) but like at 500/1k full ring with a million people left in a tourney...meh, it's kind of stale in a lot of spots

4. if someone is trying to establish a 3b/folding % then they're fucking retarded. there's absolutely no need to do that, and it's just a huge waste of chips. just 3bet a ton, they'll figure out that you dont' always have AA. picking a spot that's actually -ev is really really dumb. i also don't really understand why people WANT to establish that image. like...you want people folding to your 3bets...if they keep folding to your 3bets, you just pick up free chips and never lose chips. if you get AA and you think they're gonna fold if you 3b, just flat...you're only prolly 30 or 40bb deep, i doubt you're gonna have trouble getting all the chips in.

i don't know why people do a lot of things...i would definitely guess they're just idiot regs taht think they're great and can run a table over and aren't realizing that it's an awful spot to 3b

5. lol, we can still be friends...but i must say, you shouldn't hate him, he's a super nice guy. perhaps next summer in vegas we call have a nice dinner and you guys can discuss your problems and end dinner with a glass of champagne and a nice big hug.

9. Awesome well, I've read basically every word...

This may be really personal so feel free to not answer, but you mentioned how your dad would place sports bets while driving and reading a newspaper etc...you also mention how you don't really bet on sports or anything...are these 2 related (like did it affect your father personally or financially and you realized that growing up so you stayed away as an adult?)

10. Whats more important to you:money or girls?
Will american online players ever face legal actions from the feds for simply playing?
11. Hey Gags,

tyvm for doing well. I am only 2 pages through it, I wanna take my time with it lol, but so far has been really good read. Thought I'd throw in a couple of questions (hopefully my lack of reading it all doesn't mean I repeat), and hopefully more once I have read it all.

1. What is your biggest downswing? What is the biggest downswing you have heard of from a proven winning player? (in BI's)

2. How much time do you spend studying vs playing? How has this ratio changed as your career has evolved?

3. How important is anticipating other people's actions for your future decisions? By this I mean, if you raise CO and you are expecting a 3b from the player in SB, do you almost always 4bet or flat this spot? Obviously this is range analysis and you expect SB to be 3betting a really wide range given that you anticipated it, but do you always go with this pretty much?

4. Even after playing as many tournies as you have, do you still get nervous/anxious when approaching/making big FT's? If so, how do you let this not affect your decisions? If not, what do you think helped you overcome those emotions?

Again, thanks for read. Look forward to more! GL!

umm, nah i don't think so. i mean, he definitely wasn't some like degenerate gambler who like lost our house or anything ridiculous like that. It was more of a hobby than anything i would think. He always made pretty good money too, so it wasn't like he was throwing away his paychecks or anything...

I'm not sure why i'm the way i am with sports betting and gambling in general. i guess it's cause I'm very analytical...and i actually look at the math and ev of bets. it's like roulette and slots and stuff...there's just no +ev bet ever...so i don't know why you would EVER play them. things like that

Originally Posted by KyleFly View Post

1. i'm not really into 'money' like that. like, i don't go to the strip club and throw money around, or buy fancy jewelry and clothes and stuff. any money i have just sits in the bank. sure, i have some nice thigns, i've got a good computer, a nice guitar, and a pretty big tv...and i go out to eat a lot (which i guess is pretty 'lavish')...but i go to like fridays or something..i don't go to some ritzy restaurant and order a $300 bottle of wine...i'm just not like that. i certainly don't live any kind of 'baller' lifestyle

and, i don't go chasing girls like a lot of guys do either...i don't go to bars or clubs looking to get drunk and pick up drunk girls...i've been dating my girlfriend for almost 5 years, so i guess tha'ts part of the reason, but even if we broke upt omorrow there's no way i'd be out chasing girls like that...plus those aren't the kind of girls i'm into at all

so i don't really know how to answer your question...don't get me wrong, i certainly enjoy having money, and would of course like more of it. and i obviously like girls quite a bit...

idk, i'm just not a "$$$BLING $$$$BLING" or "let's go to the strip club then fuck some bitches" kind of guy...

2. i really don't think so. i mean, that'd be pretty absurd. first off there would be so many people to prosecute that it would be a mess. and like, you're really gonna fine someone or put someone in jail for playing poker for pennies online? seems ridiculous

glad you're enjoying it so far, take your time reading it, i know i write a lot, lol

1. for the first probably 1.5 years or so of my 'professional' career i was playing anything up to $215fo and up to $55r with only a few 100r or 1ks mixed in, and never had a bigger downswing than 20 or 25k. I always prided myself on playing a very low variance style of poker...not necessarily in how i play, but in my game selection. I always made sure to grind a bunch of low stakes tourneys that I had a really good roi in, and made sure my average buy-in stayed nice and low. once i started playing 100r and 1ks on more of a regular basis i started dropping some smaller stakes stuff, and definitely started seeing bigger swings. just counting online my biggest downswing was probably around 70k or so, maybe a little higher...if you count live as well, that's another 70k or so...they both weren't always at peaks at the same time, but biggest total was probably around 125k or so.

god, i've heard of a few really good players having over 250k in makeup from just online. i know a few really good players that regularly go into 100k makeup from just online stuff. if you count live as well...god, i know of a few players going over 500k in mu. i mean you're definitely gonna have swings when you buy into 10ks though...

2. it's tough to quantify this. a lot of it was done simultaneously. i would be playing a few tables and also plugging numbers into push/fold calculators, or playing 6 tables and sending a hh to 10 different people to get their opinions on it. not to mention all the reading of forums i did while i played. that's the stuff that really helped me get better. all the reading of hh on p5'sand 2p2 and debating with people over the best lines. i really didn't start talking to more than 2 or 3 people until i was already a 'professional'. in the last year or so i always try to leave 1 day a week where i didn't play and just would do coaching as well as go over my own hh and hh of my horses.

again, it's not such a black and white thing, there was so much overlap. all i can say is, devote as much time to the game of poker as you can. don't break it up into 'playing' and 'studying'...make time to 'get better at poker'...cause let's face it, playing a ton of hands and seeing different situations play out is going to just help you get better, and is great practice.

3. extremely extremely important. before i raise i know exactly what i'm going to do if each different person at the table 3bets me or shoves on me. i also have already started thinkinga bout their ranges if they decide to flat. if you see me open, and a 20bb stack shoves, and i'm going to call, i almost always do so instantly, because i already knew my plan before i opened. 'having a plan' is one of the most important concepts of poker. you really should never raise or bet unless you know exactly what you're going to do if your opponent raises you...and you also should have some semblance of a plan for what to do on the turn or river if he calls your bet.

all of this stuff comes more naturally the more you play. again, yo'ure not always gonna know the best course of action...playing more pots and trying things and having them fail is one way you're going to learn, and start to get better

4. umm, i control my emotions so well, so i rarely get nervous. also, i naturally perform really well under pressure, so that's always going to help me do well. the one thing i always have thought that used to help me stay calm at a final table was that...everyone is at the same final table. if i'm nervous, every other player is probably nervous also. secondly, if there's 9 people left, you're looking at that first place prize...you don't want to get 9th. so how do you have your best shot at winning, it's not by playing super passive and weak...it's by playing your game that got you to this point. you have to have faith that the moves you're making are correct, and that you play well. stick to your game plan, and you can come out on top. deviating from that plan, and playing passive and weak will only wind up with you not having chips and finishing in 8th...also, one thing i will say is, (unless you're trying to make a deal) never look at the payouts. you're playing to win, it doens't matter how much 8th or 9th gets, you're playing for first. when late reg ends, i look at the lobby and i look at how many places get paid, and i look at how much first is. i don't open the lobby again until i bust the tournament.

in big tourneys where there's a lot of money on the line i really don't get nervous at all. i get wayyy more nervous when i'm playing something like a $24 or a $3r. i think ti's just like, playing a $1k or something where it's a pretty tough field it's like, well, it's tough...even though i'm deep i'm not guaranteed to win it. i'm gonna play my best, and not miss opportunities, and sometimes i'll do well, and sometimes i'll lose. but when i'm in a 3r or something i feel like i'm just wayyyy the best player and i should win 100% of the time, even though i know tha'ts not possible. i just feel like i should literally never lose those small stakes tourneys. (when i say i get nervous, i don't really get nervous...it's just more like, i feel my heart beating more, and feel like i've actually messed up those smaller stakes tourneys sometimes because of it...i'll do things like try to run the table over when i shoudln't, or try to bluff someone when i shoudn't...just cause i felt like iw as the best and shoudln't let these guys win pots...it's dumb, and i certainly have curbed this, but it did exist at some point. in the 1ks and stuff, i always just though very clearly and was able to look at each situation and make the best decision)

in 2009 when i was deep in the 2500 ftops, there were like 12 people left, first place is like 600k...keep in mind that my biggest score at this point was like 17 or 18k...anyway, 99nvrlosez was over, it was a sunday, we were grinding. so there's 10 or 11 left, and i had a good stack, got in AK vs i think KJ and lost for like a ton of chips...and wound up busting like 20 min later in 8th place for 46k. after i busted and the popup came up and said 'congrats you finished in 8th place and received 46k' i said something to the effect of "oh 46k, that's more than i thought i was getting"...and just kept grinding the rest of my sunday. i didn't throw my mouse or complaina bout the bad beat from earlier or anything like that. he said he was shocked at how quiet and calm i was through the whole thing. he said he thought i was just going to like explode and start cursing or throwing things or cry or just something...but it never came. i was just really focused, and when i lost, i lost...there nothing else i could have done, it was time to move on to the next tourney and figure out how i can win the 50fo that i was still in. sure, the next day i went back through the whole hand history and looked at all the spots and was like ok could i ahve played this differently, what was best here, etc...but i never was mad or anything...i did the best that i could in the moment, and that's all you can ask for

getting angry or upset isn't going to help you win tournaments or get better at poker. you'll never make your best decisions if you're angry...remaining calm and thinking clearly is what will help you do well...i just always have believed that and done my best to stick to it

14. Well I've read through close to two pages & have enjoyed it so far. I had a feeling I would though after having had the oppurtunity to be in on that Skype session you did awhile ago which I thoroughly enjoyed.

And speaking of... any plans on doing another one of those Skype Group sessions? (sorry if this has already been asked)

2.) (yah I should probably go back & read the entire thread... so I'll say sorry now if this has already been mentioned)
Plans on moving to (or 'visiting') Canada at all in the future?
3.) If so, whereabouts to & why?

... would ask questions 4,5, & 6 here next but they might not be relevant (depending upon answers to 2 & 3)
15. I just wanted to drop in and say thanks for doing such an awesome well...really appreciate the detail you put into all of your answers.

16. Hey Gags,

thanks for the great well. A lot of players, including me could learn a lot from it.

I remember when we did some coaching sessions. The first night after the coaching i couldnt sleep for hours cause it was so much input and i never thought that poker is not "just poker". Was really a great lesson and the money is way worth it.

I found a PM from MastaP from October 2009, where he asked me which coach i have cause i talked a lot with him how great the coaching is. Seems like its gone into a good direction with MastaP :-)

Good luck with all your future plans.

Felix

17. Enjoyed the well Gags,

1.Can you list a couple players who you would like to see do "The Well" in the near future on P'5s?

2.Were you a fan of the MET's when full tilt was running them? If so, did you have a different game plan for them or just treat them as regular tourneys?

1. umm, i'm not sure yet, it's definitely something i would like to do. i'm going to vegas to watch the final table, then prague for an ept, so the next month or two is going to be pretty hectic...i'll definitely post about it when it happens though

2. there are some plans in the works...nothing is definite yet, but i'm definitely looking into the possibility of moving out of the country very soon

3. canada or malta...i know people that already live in both of them, and would just go there so i would know people near by, or even live with them potentially

1. hmmm. i thoroughly enjoyed the dipthrong well, definitley had some good laughs. but um, i'd love to see something from pokerjamers...or jakoon...or um...idk, can't think of anyone else right now

2. METs were certainly interesting...i didn't really play them any differently than a regular tourney...i just played them 4 or 6 times or whatever. they kind of suck for mtts...your roi is def a lot lower...i'd rather just play normal tourneys. with that being said, at the lower stakes they were super cool, it was great having 6 shots in those $50fos and playing for like 30k

1. umm...poker just goes in cycles. when people start getting super aggressive (like now) then playing tighter becomes a lot more profitable. so like, i don't think people are gonna really get that much crazier...it'll eventually start fading back towards a little tighter. it'll never be as tight as it was like 5 years ago, because people are more competent...but..ya

2. lol. people are definitely trying to mix in limps. i've seen it in a lot of spots where i never used to. so yeah, possibly

3. i've never met him, so he woudl have to introduce himself first...but uh, yeah i'm a friendly guy, i'd prolly help him out

4. uh...not sure what this question really means...so i'm gonna guess the answer is no

5. i do have a merge account...i don't play on it though. i put some money on like, idk a couple months ago, and played mtts for like a week...but decided it wans't really worth it, and just stopped.

6. i really would love for it to be gags30...i mean, it's my identity on every site. idk though, it seems like a really -ev move though, especially in higher stakes stuff when i know a lot of people are going to have new names...they'd just have such an advantage on me. so yeah, i'd prolly make new names...

1. i'm not sure, i think it's kleath's turn to watch him this week

2. probably cause he has next to no clue what he's talking about and spends more time bragging about himself than anything else. it's a shame that they can't seem to stop using him...livb was easily the best announcer i've ever heard. his analysis was perfect and actually on a high level... yet he was able to still make stuff simple enough that i would think the average viewer could understand.

3. sure, why not! we can bond over said chicken

4. this a really good question...i think the weakest part of my game is super deepstacked play like in cash games...like 200bb +. so i would probably just pick some really sick cash game players. probably like phil galfond, dan cates, andddd idk, nutsinho or someone

5. something plain like corn flakes

6. hmm, def a few hours on a couple of different hands. i don't remember anythying in particular, but i remember talking about a hand for a while, then like 2 hours later being like omg we're STILL talking about this hand.

7. i think 3rd place is going to be someone that is a really good and aggressive player. something similar to the way that duhammel won is prolly gonna happen...where there's 3 left and 2 people play a giant pot. i'm not srue exactly who will get 3rd, but it'll probably be one of the 3 good players that i picked earlier...benba, phildo, or pius

1) will you have t-shirts made for next saturday? if so, can i have one to wear? if not, WHY NOT???
2) on a scale of 1.00 to 10.00, 10 being the best player in the world, what would you rank yourself as? what would you rank deoxy? me?
3) why'd you choose EPT prague to go to? are you selling shares or being backed for that? how come you didnt go/consider going to like partouche or any of the other super soft live mtts that have happened recently?
4) wug WSOP 2012 plans? play a lot of the events or just play some? house again?
5) what are your top 3 mixed games that you would recommend to learn that are most fun&profitable?
6) on a scale of 1-10, how badly did i blow up my 2011 WSOP ME based on just what you saw on tv? how terrible do you perceive me to be now after seeing what you saw?
7) minimum overall br (life+poker combined) you think that i would need to "safely" move to canada and play online poker for a living?
8) what's your rank in sc2 now? god i remember that one time we played FFA with deoxy and we completely ignored you and just destroyed each other and then you came in with a fully teched army and raped us. then i made a couple DTs, killed deoxy, then went and killed you and you were so confused and pissed cause you didnt know what the fuck was going on.
9) you, dd22, st22, deoxy, pius, and prat get stranded on an island with very scarce resources and absolutely 0% chance of rescue. in 1 month, only 1 of you is living. what happened?
10) obligatory greatest strength/weakness about my game

25.
i'll tell you, the one time i was sort of semi star struck at the poker table was in, i think it was 2010, might have been 09, i don't remember. but it wans't a poker player!... it was day 1 of the wsop main and at the very next table was jason alexander. i've always been a huge seinfeld fan. and just somehting about seeing him there was like, wow, tha'ts the person that really made the character of george come to life. idk, it's just such a great role and he have it suchhhh life. was cool to just like see him and that like, idk he actually existed
haha

1. sighhhh i feel like i (we?) failed with this one. I really wanted to do "pius is pios" or "HUH 8.7 million dollars.. in- ter - es - ting"...but it never happened

2. this is a really weird question. i mean, are you talking all mtt poker players in the world? cause then i think it's pretty clear that all 3 of us are at least 9.98 or higher. if you're talking just professional poker players, or just people who play the game more than just casually, then we're talking something completely different. are you talking mtts only, or cash, or both? i consider myself in the upper echelon of mtt players. the reason i say this is that there are very very few mtt players that i feel outmatched or outclassed by at the table, and i've played with a ton of players considered to be 'the best'.

i don't play a lot of cash, and know that i'm not as strong in that. i still am certainly above average, but am certainly no where near as good as i am in mtts...

3. mainly because there is an ept, wpt, and gsop main event all within the same 10 day span. there's a ton of side events, and it's gonna be really cool. plus i've always wanted to see prague. i'm gonna be selling pieces, already started a bit, why, you want to buy some?

i don't go to many tourneys mainly because i absolutely hate travelling. i hate being on planes. i hate staying in hotels. i hate being away from my gf and my dog. i hate eating shitty food when traveling and in airports and stuff. everything about travelling is just awful. i try to get to ac when i can cause it's close...but other than that ireally don't go away very often. since the summer, i've been trying to go play live more and play more bigger series. we'll see how many epts i get to though...it's expensive travelling and stuff

4. right now i plan on playing a ton of stuff again. we'll have to see exactly the state of things...if i've been able to make good money, if i've moved and gotten back online, etc. either way though, i plan on playing a bunch. if i'm not backed for everything then i'll sell action and go from there. i'd imagine i'll get a house again, gotta see who's gonna be going

5. hmmm...omaha8, there's so much going on in that game, really is a cool game. 2-7 single draw is a great game. it's pretty similar to nlhe in a lot of ways...just there's soooo much less information, you can do a TON of bluffing and stuff, so ti's really cool. also, something just completely different like badugi is always cool too

honestly, if you want to diversify your poker stuff...just learn all the horse games
Thread Starter
27. 6. um, it's really tough to say. first off, i didn't watch the whole broadcast. second, they only show a few hands, so like, it's tough to see the big picture. also, one tourney is obv no way to measure a person's skill. i remember watching a couple hands and thinking that you made some mistakes, but nothing was too extreme from what i saw

7. uhh, real tough one. i would def want at least like 18 months of living expenses in the bank as a safety net. at 2k or so a month, that's around around 36k in the bank... but you always want a little more, plus 2k/month might be on low side depending on things...so say 50k in the bank...and then at least like another 15k or so roll. if i only ahd 50k in the bank though i woudln't be super comfortable losing 15k playing poker...so like, you probably would only want to actually play poker with like maybe 7k or so, and put the rest in the bank...idk...i know a ton of people that have like 20k to their name and it's all on stars and they play 'professionally'...that's obv not a safe choice though, so i always like to just be extra safe about it (remember my long ass poker story...i alwyas just want to not go broke, lol)

8. uhh, i'm a pretty high platinum, i'll prolly be diamond soon, been doing really well lately. god i used to be so bad. when i first started i can't tell you how many games i lost to dts cause i didnt know you had to make detection, and didn't know what they were. i'm getting a lot better tho, we should play

9. this reminds me a lot of the movie 'cube' where there's a bunch of people stuck in this big cube and no one knows how they got there or how to get out. all of the people are really smart and connected in some way except this one kid that is semi-retarded. in the movie there's all these traps that kill people and stuff, but anyway

ok, so...right off the bat me and dave start a romantic relationship. this keeps us distracted for a while... meanwhile prat starts coming up with some genius plot to keep everyone alive. he has written his plan by scratching it into the sand. pius comes over and says 'Hey what's this'. prat says 'i'm going to save us all, it's genius!!!, but leave me alone, i'm working'. pius says 'come on let me see' prat: "NO, i'm busy, i'm almost done!" pius is quick to respond with 'ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED, let me see it!!" prat once again pushes him away. pius gets mad and kicks sand all over his plan, ruining all of his work. prat screams and goes to tackle pius, but being the nimble german that he is, pius jumps out of the way. prat trips, hitting his head on a tree as he falls, and bam, he's dead...down to 5. shane has been busy watching deoxy and making sure that deoxy doesn't eat any dirt or sticks. he's getting tired following him and starts to try to get him to turn around. they've wandered so far away from everyone that they aren't sure they can find their way back. shane starts freaking out and begins furiously running in one direction. deoxy has been distracted by something shiny and doens't follow him. before shane realizes it, he doens't know where he is and has lost deoxy. he is never heard from again and no one knows what happened to him. deoxy plays with the shiny thing for a while, but eventually gets bored. he finds his way back to everyone else by following the trail of half gnawed on sticks that he left behind. me and dave have been busy um, 'being busy' when pius wanders over. he is busy laughing about how 'fucking retarded' prat is, when i notice dave looking him with that look...you know the one...that 'look at that gorgeous german' look. i can't take it, and in a fit of jealous rage at dave's wandering eye i grab a rock and kill dave with it. pius cries out "ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?!?! WHY'D YOU DO THAT??" and attacks me, quickly taking me down and killing me. deoxy wanders out of the woods, saying that he's hungry and wants to know if he can have ice cream for dinner. pius looks at him confusedly, wondering why he hasn't asked about the the dead bodies of prat, dave, and myself. 'where's shane?' asks pius...'uhhh, iunnoo' responds deoxy. deoxy then again asks if he can ice cream for dinner. pius says 'of course not, there's no ice cream here'...'but i want ice creammmmmmmmmmmmm' begs deoxy. 'shut up and try to find some food'....they begin searching for food. wandering, aimlessly around this island. days pass, 'can i have some ice cream yet!?!?!?!' deoxy again asks...pius has now resorted to just grumbling and is getting more and more fed up with the question. finally, a month has passed. they've eaten hardly anything, and there's no sign of rescue. one day, while pius is trying to fashion together a raft, when deoxy comes running over scream "OH MY GOD, THIS IS IT, WE'RE GONNA BE OK, WE'RE GONNA BE OK!!" "What is it?" exclaims pius "a boat? a raft? a plane? what is it?!?!?!"...deoxy holds up a few sticks bundled together to form a rough cone shape. on top of it, some white flower petals wrapped around a circular rock..."MMMMMMMMMMM ICE CREAM!!!" Pius loses it...."ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?! THERE IS NO ICE CREAM!!!!!!! I CAN'T TAKE THIS!!!!" with that...pius runs over to the nearest cliff and hurls himself off. deoxy has been licking his pretend ice cream cone and has not noticed that pius is no longer there. after eating a few of the flower petals he says 'oh yeah, that's some good ice cream. oh pius, this is what i wanted to show you, i found it in the sand over there' and pulls out a satellite phone. 'i'm gonna call my mom and see if she can bring us some more ice cream'......the next day, deoxy is rescued. when asked about the others on the island he says he doens't know what happened to them, but tells everyone about this great ice cream he had on the island...

very similar ending to the cube though, you should see it...*spoiler* everyone dies except for the retarded kid, he is the only one to escape...

10. i actually don't know that much about your game. we've never played together, or at least not a lot...and like, idk, i've never seen your hh or stuff. but um, if i had to say, i feel like you've alwyas had a tonnnn of confidence in yoru game. this is probably both your biggest strength as well as weakness. it's a strength because your'e not afraid to play against anyone, regardless of how much 'better' of a player they may be. you always know you're very good, and aren't afraid of anything and always play your best and aren't afraid to make moves and stuff, regardless of hte buyin or how deep you are or how much is at stake. this makes you incredibly dangerous to play against. however, i feel like this also can limit you. you may not always heed advice of others that may be more experienced in certain areas, or be open to new lines, because you feel yours is best. there's never an end to what you can learn in poker, always try to be open to that.

thanks for the questions! see you in vegas!

i answered this earlier in the well somewhere. basically just any person that plays extremely unorthodox and is constantly trying new things. super aggressive regs or your standard regs are just like, you know what they're gonna do. they're gonna bluff you a lot, or their ranges are gonna generally be face up, so they don't give me that much trouble.

ok, so...right off the bat me and dave start a romantic relationship. this keeps us distracted for a while... meanwhile prat starts coming up with some genius plot to keep everyone alive. he has written his plan by scratching it into the sand. pius comes over and says 'Hey what's this'. prat says 'i'm going to save us all, it's genius!!!, but leave me alone, i'm working'. pius says 'come on let me see' prat: "NO, i'm busy, i'm almost done!" pius is quick to respond with 'ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED, let me see it!!" prat once again pushes him away. pius gets mad and kicks sand all over his plan, ruining all of his work. prat screams and goes to tackle pius, but being the nimble german that he is, pius jumps out of the way. prat trips, hitting his head on a tree as he falls, and bam, he's dead...down to 5. shane has been busy watching deoxy and making sure that deoxy doesn't eat any dirt or sticks. he's getting tired following him and starts to try to get him to turn around. they've wandered so far away from everyone that they aren't sure they can find their way back. shane starts freaking out and begins furiously running in one direction. deoxy has been distracted by something shiny and doens't follow him. before shane realizes it, he doens't know where he is and has lost deoxy. he is never heard from again and no one knows what happened to him. deoxy plays with the shiny thing for a while, but eventually gets bored. he finds his way back to everyone else by following the trail of half gnawed on sticks that he left behind. me and dave have been busy um, 'being busy' when pius wanders over. he is busy laughing about how 'fucking retarded' prat is, when i notice dave looking him with that look...you know the one...that 'look at that gorgeous german' look. i can't take it, and in a fit of jealous rage at dave's wandering eye i grab a rock and kill dave with it. pius cries out "ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?!?!

29. Hi gags30 this is my first post as I am new to the community here. First thing I did when i browsed the forum was read this well and i rlly rlly enjoyed it. Thanks a lot for sharing ur stories and insights pokerwise and otherwise! As far is I know ur the coolest p5'er I know about now ;)

My question 2u is:

How did ur family react when u told them to become a (pro) poker player? Did they support u from the start or did they freak out? What about friends u had/have who don't play poker at all, do they respect it?

I am asking this because in my world most ppl do look down upon it, they say it s gambling, it's bad and stuff. To try and convince them otherwise seems impossible. So my q 2u is did/do u experience that also (early on)? And how did u cope with it?
30. 1. Do you check raise very much? Would you ever check raise all in on a bluff with high blinds, if so in what type of situation?

2. What was your favorite game on fulltilt and pokerstars before BF?
