Just had an interesting issue with bodog that I wanted to share. it seems that their architecture isn't setup to accommodate the increase in numbers of poker players. If you experience a problem, be prepared to be kicked out while bodog keeps your money. I was conveniently kicked out while holding a pair of Q's. Next thing I know, it shows that I was automatically removed from the hand due to a lack of response. I called in to discuss the situation and before I could say much, I was told that my computer was the problem and I should go away. Thanks for taking my money bodog.
I've heard this from multiple people. You are better off to find a more reliable website. -
Not sure about your problem, but I not a fan of bodog since they do not try to cater to poker players and are more concerned about their sports betting and casino. There are plenty of people that like the smaller fields bodog provides, but the golden days of bodog poker are well in the past.

It does seem to lag a bit the longer I have tables open. Sometimes it will freeze and then come back after a few hands have been auto folded. Maybe Becky and Nate can find out more about this?
Thanks, -
OP- its not scalability.
They always seem to have lagged more than most- and its been that way for years. And yes, the default is they blame the users pc/internet. They seem to have issues with internet routing at times.. where a particular connection stream lags.. and then add on the slow client and you end up DCd -
ever since the last update, when i open my first table it freezes for like 2 minutes. kinda sux but the only problem ive had
-
i was playing a ring game and after sitting there for 2 hrs the table began to lag. cards would come out slow and my action was always behind. I didnt lose any money but it sure was annoying as shit bc how fast some people call/raise/fold tells me what they might have. I asked a reg at the table and re said leave the table and restart..
sure enough i restarted and it worked fine for hourse...super annoying..OP try the live chat, its always available. also i think some of their support people have gotten dumber, seriously it used to be top notch but now its lacking..as Bonzi always says ask for a superviisor..they tend to help and help quicker..at least bodog does have people that answer the phone, read emails and are in live chat -
He guys, sorry for the delay, didn't notice the reshuffling of the forums (when did that happen?).
OP, can you describe your issue in more detail please.
Describe the events leading up to your hand being folded. As others have noted, lags seem to be an ongoing issue, but without detailed description of the events leading up to lagging/autofolding it's hard for the development team to address the issue.
Also, explain what you mean by being "kicked out", told you "should go away" and Bodog taking your money, as these responses are uncharacteristic of the Bodog Customer Support Team. -
nate i have a serious problem..
i was in a tourney and my hands started autofolding between 120-128 am 1k starting at 1120 pm tourney. i didnt have auto-fold checked or anything..prolly folded 10 or so hands..
contacting cs now.. -
I've had the same problem as Eagleseye, my hands just start auto-folding and the fix is for me to close out and rejoin the table. It has happened to me maybe five times since the last upgrade, never happened before. And if I'm multi tabling, it doesn't affect all tables. And I think it happens after I time-out at a table and then rejoin the action, I'll play a few hands and then they just start auto folding. But it seemed at least once that I never timed out at the table and it just started happening although I could not verify that for sure. And unless I see something playable, I normally won't notice it until I get into the blind since I still can check the fold button and assume that is why I'm folding and it's not until I either see a playable hand or I'm in the blinds where I will only "check" fold if I see a raise and have no intention of calling. Was pretty annoying on Sunday when it happened in the 5K where I had AK just waiting to 3bet on the button and sadly saw my AK thrown into the muck. Also remember it happening one other time where I was in the BB and the SB just limped and I autofolded.
I've also had some of the performance issues the OP has described and it seems to happen when I'm playing 2+ tables for an extended period of time (several hours). In these cases, I need to close out the program completely and then re-open and rejoin my tables. Seems to work until another few hours have past and now during my longer sessions, I will periodically shut down the program during a break so I don't encounter the issue during a critical hand. I haven't addressed this issue with support or brought it to the forums because I know my PC has some memory issues and very well could be the problem. I'm planning on upgrading soon and if I still encounter performance issues, I'll definitely be addressing with CS. -
my CS chat was LOL terrible..as always it was my fault. my connection was bad, my computer wasn't cleaned properly, i didnt do enough regular maintenance, blah blah blah. i have the chat log. I did learn that tourneys and cash games are on different servers hence my tourney hands autofolding and the cash table im at didnt. The chat person basically said unless everyone has the problem they wont refund anything because their servers are fine (which clearly they aren't). I was calm for awhile then I just got pissed off from hearing the same nonsense for 3 years.
Inform them its there fucking servers for gods sake! i have a 100% connection and high speed and its not just me that it happens to. As soon as I was done with the chat session i immediately start losing probably won 2 hands in the hour, not saying they caused it but its coincidental. To say the least I was pissed off because i lost equity on hands i would have played.
IDK..it just seems to be getting worse.. -

Nate- to the degree that they have more frequent server/internet link lag than any other site, yet seem to just blame it on either the player or the vagaries of the internet, is plain inexcusable.
It's been around for very many years now. While they are correct technically when they get into the *we don't control the packet routing so it's not our fault if it gets slowed down for table X* argument, it's still ridiculous. Why? Because for some reason it happens with them 1000% more often than any other site. There is something unique either in the software, the servers or their choice of internet providers that causes laggy timeouts long before any other sites software.
It is safe to say that the issue resides on Bodog's side of the fence here, and ought to be addressable without any of our input. They simply refuse to own this issue and have known about it for far too long. While I might not be happy about sw improvements or the pace of them, at least they are trying so I can't give them a fail.
But on this lag/timeout issue I have to give them a life fail. Deeds not words. And in the last three years I've not seen deed one to address this issue nor even the words that say "we don't know why we have this problem but you don't get it on stars/tilt/ub/merge/yahatay/ every other poker site on the planet. -

this is why I got mad last night and told the rep that..didn't seem to phase them..every other sentence was deny deny deny.. -
FWIW I have had the same issue with FTP many times in the past year.
There are likely hundreds of causes to lag issues. As we report them, they address them. I know that when updates are released, along with the changes I post here, there are many changes that are not player-facing addressing issues like these. Think of it like catching a cold or the flu. There are lots of factors that lead to you getting sick with a cold or the flu, as scientist discover new ones they address them, but they know full well they will never be able to prevent every strain of these sicknesses, so they just do the best they can, we get a few fewer colds and flus every year, and life goes on.
I know it's frustrating, but there isn't really much that can be done. -
Techies out there help me on this, I am from old school big iron computing and know just enough about microarchitecture to get in trouble. Therefore the following may be off the mark for exact factness.
Problems after playing a while could be for several reasons, including poor program design and genereal MS Ka-Ka. Do your Ctl-Alt-Del to pull up Windows Task Manager (WTM) and look to see how much memory BODOG is using. If there is a leak or other, it may use more and more memory until it reaches it's max allocated memory (without the program handling requesting more) and then you start swapping to virtual memory on disk causing lags. When restarting seems to fix the problem, something along those lines can be the root cause. It's either trying to hog more and more or there's a build up of crap that's not being handled (like a commercial ready program should). Since some software, unbeknownst to you is based on/using Internet Explorer (more MS Ka-Ka), settings there can affect performance. Try clearing the cache/history and see if that helps.
Internet/site problem
I can see the lights on my router and modem so I can sometimes roughly see if it's the internet/sender that's pausing or the program.
WTM will also show you if your CPU is pinned at 100%, like mine used to be for some heavily animated (Flash?) poker sites before I upgraded the Graphics card. This can cause pauses and sometimes disconnect/sit outs. (If you have a Duo or multi-processor chip common now, the CPU in WTM is effectively maxed when it is at 50% each (for Duo). You can usually tell if you have this problem because it will get worse the more lobbies/tables you have open. close any browser windows that are running ads. Shut off animation or get a new cheapo box. It will probably run rings around what you or I have currently.
An additional problem I have is with my ISP, Comcast. I have problems at exactly 2:00 am local. While they will deny it and are not providing this downtime information to their own help desk personnel, you know they are doing maintenance when they think it's not busy. If you're deep in the PS Million, this is not a time to be forced away from the table for 7 minutes.
Re: BODOG in general. Money is easy in, easy out. However, I would do much better at a site that has all the basics, like hand history. I played PLO8 and the lack of any indication of what a player had, following a brief flash at the end of the hand, drove me nuts.
Look forward to the day when the fish return from the sea. -
Rocket is pretty on point so I'll cliffnote what he said as a giant +1. THis is just general info here, I still think they should fix the entirety of their server/sw etc, but here's the facts:
A) Bodog sw does bloat over time. people have noted in the past that it seems to memory leak and use more and more over the course of many hours. Closing and re-opening the bodog client will resolve that issue, for that moment
B) Bodog uses a lot of other programs on your machine to make the sw run. This includes IE, Java and Flash. These can can cause you troubles and you don't even know it. Clean/empty your IE cache/temp files periodically for better bodog performance. Also, do the same for JAVA cache. It's amazing what cleaning this out will do for you. Make sure your flash player is always up to current version standards as well.
D) If you happen to have comcast and get an outage of connection between 130am and 2am your time nearly on th edot, then as rocket says, its maintenance. If yo uplay those hours and use comcast make sure to have backup internet access. (ps to rocket, they always know in my area when i call and ask if it's maintenance... but that doesnt help much does it? Lol so I don't bother calling when they nail the time to the dot._
E) Turn off the animation, it slows things down. No more flames, but lag is cut back.
F) It's your crappy pc! Don't play on a crappy or old PC. I learned this the hard way. I was playing on an old P4 machine and using pokertracker at the same time plus playing stars and tilt etc and my machine would just get 100% maxed out while i could play the other sites, timeouts and lags were way to frequent on the dog so i stopped. Max memory and a better graphics card had helped a tiny bit, but not much as the machine was just too old. Adding a SSD (solid state drive) in place of th ehard drive helped a ton, but still wasn't anywhere near good performance.
So, when i bought a new quad-core with win 7 and 8gb of memory, and new (read modern) graphics card, I get very few lags compared to before. They still happen, but so much less often and not as badly.
Hints and tips from rocket confirmed. (Wasn't real cliffy lol)
a) NOt in Rocket's reply, but.... THe faster your machine, the more memory you got, and the faster your internet connection, the better their POS sw will work. -
how do you clean out your java cache? my computer was bought last year..win7 all the updated stuff. thanks for the tips though

yes Java too. Whenever I've done a troubleshooting sess with them on the phone and he person was competent, they definitely wanted that cleaned too. And while you are at it, try and make sure you are on the current java version as well.
How? search Java at the start button and open the program. General tab / temp internet files / settings button. then delete files.
