Full Tilt keeps trying to reinvent poker. How about they fix the satellite.
I don't play a lot of satellite tourneys with a large number of seats given away because the end game is just horrid.
We have all played a big satellite tourney where 10+ get seats and the game just stops when we get to about 3/4 of the people left will get a seat. It makes sense to do this so I am not blaming the people for playing slow. No one wants to play a hand because they have no reason to get involved. The game is just awful at this point.
My suggestion is to go hand for hand when you get to the point where half the field wins a seat. Then everytime someone is eliminated the chipleader is declared a winner and given a seat. His chips would then be removed from the game. Continue until all seats are awarded.
Pros: People will play somewhat more. Won't totally fix this but it will make it a lot better. Also it will put a final table together for 5 seats with everyone fairly close to the same stack. This will make people work to get their seat. Also no saving your buddy at the table with this setup.
Cons: Hand for hand would be forever in some of these huge ones. The blinds would probably get huge in relation to stack size. They would need to work this out. Live tourneys will often stop the clock during hand for hand once a table is finished for that hand. They could use this.
Thoughts? Other suggestions? -
The players that are being removed may potential give the shorter stacks action. This would change the game considerably and slow it down, hand for hand is a pain in the ass. If you think they are slow now. And as you mention, stack sizes would be a problem where teh blinds are timed. Every one would tank every hand to wear the blind time down. If you were around the middle of the road I'd do it so the short stacks suffer more.
