70 to go in the hotter 55, first is 16k.
Everyone around 20bbs, no history.
Folded to the cutoff who open shoves A3o.
Button calls with Q9o.
Which play do you think is worse and why? -
Worse? calling with Q9
I don't like the push with A3 but for a steal the hand has some value with the highcard and potentially for a low straight. Q9 on the other hand is dominated by any strong ace hand or pair, would usually need to make 2 pair or a straight so since this is happening preflop I'm not liking the Q9 personally. -
without correct stack sizes and how the blinds play who knows

but a 20 bb shove with A3o there is bad and calling Q9o with 20 bbs is bad without history ect
which one is you? -
I don't like either with a 20BB stack and everyone around the same.
70 is still a long way out.
Q9 is far worse though.
Remember that you need a stronger hand to call with than you do to shove with and I don't think Q9 is stronger than many hands so this is the worse play. -
how the fuck can you run that deep in the hot55 when you call off 20bb shoves with q9?! its not even sooooooted
-
lemme guess, you shoved the A3 and the Q9 got there?
-
Q9 is a soul read on CO's open shove range
The q9 reshove is brilliant, the A3o shove is terribad.

Ok, so I have a couple of reasons for posting.
Firstly I just couldn’t understand how anyone calls off their whole stack with Q9o in that spot. It didn’t make any sense to me given how tight I was playing. I just didn’t get it at all and wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. Glad to have confirmation it was just a really bad call.
Secondly, at the time I was questioning why even bother stealing with a weak ace? I just don’t think I have enough equity against the calling range from the blinds. On the other hand you get nowhere playing tight in turbos and you need to push any edge you can.
I’ve been playing a tonne of turbos lately and I see shit like this all the time , especially people reshoving weak aces from the blinds - marginal push and marginal call. I guess I’m just struggling to define my push and call ranges at similar stack sizes. I find it a lot easier at unequal stacks, but the deeper I get the harder I find it. Not getting this right is a costing me a lot of final tables so it’s something I need to get right. -
First of all this thread is totally pointless without both players stack sizes, that being said there are spots where you should both shove with a3 and call with q9 depending on stacks since its a turbo.

If you are as tight as you say a 20bb shove screams weakness does it not? Why not raise fold 2.5x and let your image get you over the line?
