  2. Your flop bet was way too big, IMO. You put in so much that you would normally assume the other guy would everything but a straight or another set. In this case, you want to bet enough that a hand like 89 doesn't get a cheap turn card, but betting like 5x the pot is to much.

That said, he did call your overbet, which is what you wanted, so I guess it worked out. Other than that, the turn bet wasn't terrible. I might have played this more cautiously, because with him flat calling you pre-flop, you should have definitely been considering the possibility that you were playing against a straight.

The other guy's call wasn't actually completely unthinkable, because he had an overpair and an open-ended draw. He must have thought there was a possibility you were bluffing AK (probably a possibility in a .02-.05 room) or something like that, or maybe just had top pair and a draw. This means that he had a chance of being ahead, 2 outs to his set, and 8 outs to the straight, so he was only about a 2-1 dog to catch you.
  3. Your re-raise on the flop was too big, committing too much $ at that point. The fact that he actually called it should send off some alarm bells. He could easily have already have a made straight. Unless he is a complete donk, he definitely wasn't getting the odds to draw. Given your line I would have probably checked behind on the turn for some pot control assuming he made already have a made hand. The river is just unfortunate. Try a smaller reraise on the flop.
