  1. Just a little background on the situation that happened. I'm in the military, and I was and still am in the Middle East. I am a father of three and have been playing poker since I was 8 and now I'm 31. I chose to go and play a week of poker during the Wynn Classic this March before going to Hawaii and spending the remaining time with my beautiful family. I was going to play a few $2,000 and $3,000 tourneys along with the Main Event. I played very well in the tourneys, beating more than two-thirds of the field in each event. I had a lot of respect from players like Chad Brown, Elky, and even Darryl Dicken (when I folded a set on the flop, which was a great fold). I won about $3,000 in a cash game. I also won one satelitte into the $3,000 tourney. Everything was GREAT. Then it came down to playing the Main Event. I told my wife I would not spend any more than $18,000 on this trip to include food, tourney fees, hotel, and airplane tickets. Well, needless to say I kept my word. I had just under $7,000 left. The main event cost $10,000. So, I decided to play at the Bellagio in a cash game to try and win atleast $4,000. I was waiting for a $5-$10 NL Holdem cash game. The line was long. I looked into the other room and seen a $10-$25 NL Holdem game. I asked the buy-in and I think it was $6,000, if I'm not mistaken. I saw there was an empty seat and I took it. This table had 7 players (top players) to include Markham (a few weeks before he won the main event) Poppa Smurf, and two other pros who I forgot their names. Well, I sat down with my $7,000 and I played really tight. I bought a few pots with a few raises with marginal hands, but everyone thought I was afraid to mix up with them. Then my "Wynn Classic, Main Event" demolishing hand occured. Here's what happened. Poppa smurf Sust broke from the main game and had about $400,000 on the table. I was the button. I was dealt pocket 9s. Lee Markham was the BB and first to act raised to $125, Poppa Smurf called and the guy next to him raised to $225. It came to me I called, SB folded and Lee called and so did the original raiser; Poppa Smurf called. The flop came 8D, 5D, 4D. Everyone checked to the re-raiser, he bet $550, I almost folded but I called, Lee folded, the UTG raiser called and Poppa Smurf folded. The turn was a 9H, UTG checked, raiser bet $900. I wanted to see where I was with my set, so I mini-raised to $1800, UTG folded and the raiser called. So, I think I'm good with my set of 9s. I am hoping for the board to pair seeing I have the top set. The river was the 9S. I rivered four of a kind. My head was going off like a drum "BINGO, BINGO, BINGO" the raiser bet $1,250 into me, I had a feeling he had AK of diamond, so I went all-in, he said gladly! He turned his hand over and had 6, 7 of Diamonds. I was so shocked, I didn't even turn my hand over to show the bad beat. No one knew I had four of a kind. I know there was no bad beat and all I could think of was, "I just lost with four nines, in the biggest cash game I ever played." It was so devasting to me, I forgot my kids gifts I bought them at the table. I already walked out and when I remembered the gifts, I walked back to the table and all I remember is a blurr. I told everyone good game and walked back out. This was a tough one to swallow, but if I had to do it again, I would still do the same thing. I just wanted to share a heart stopping moment in a Soldier's life. Take care, may the cards land your way!
