I was playing in a Sunday MTT rebuy at my local casino in Arizona. I decided that I was going to play good, solid poker because most of the players here are the worst possible which makes good play difficult. But I was up for the challenge because I didn't want to give bad players too much of my rebuy money.
By the end of the rebuy period my strategy held up good as I was in the top 10 with about 14k chips. Not bad starting with 1500 and blinds in turbo mode. These casinos here don't want tournys around too long.
Soon after the break I get pocket QQ. Two limpers go in front of me so I put in a good sized raise. As it may, the limpers forget the rebuy is over and decide to call me. Flop comes JQK rainbow. Player in front bets and the other calls so I sit, think and decide to protect my set and go all-in. The hundred and five year old in seat 10, last to act calls me. Remember 14k chips or so. Others fold-
I flip over my queens thinking she has the A10. Nope, she has AQ. She herself had around 15k chips. So with all the Q's gone and the A not helping her I thought sure I'd be gleaming soon as the new chip leader. Then with an 8% chance, yup- she rivered the 10 giving her the straight over my set.
The worst part is that the hundred and five year old gets up from the table as if she lost. She didn't even know she won!!! I sat there in seat 5 with my head on the table pleading for the 10 of spades to disappear. Unbelievable. She could've at least picked up her dentures off the floor once she was told she won. I wouldn't have felt so bad then!
