I haven't played online in a pretty long time due to family, work, etc. The wife and kid are out of town so i decide to fire up some tourneys.
I play 3 on Sunday and get bad beat in all 3 when i have average chips.
Then i decide to play tonight and play the $27.50 on stars. First is $5500 or something like that. I play for 6 fucking hours having a good amount of chips the whole way and in 2 hands, see ya later. the worst part is, i lost 2/3 of my stack when I KNOW I made a great play and got a guy to put in 22 big blinds with KQ off. Then the next hand i lose a classic race with the 20 big blinds i have left.
My question for you guys is this, "How the fuck do you play tourneys for a living and not go crazy?" -
weed

This is a standard answer but seriously the more you can play the easier it gets. I have a friend that is more in your situation so when you are playing something like ten tournaments a month your bad beats are going to stay with you forever. However the guys that are playing over 100 tourneys a week have an easier time with this because they can just click the box and move onto the next tournament knowing that they are gonna bink one eventually.

Volume should help. Three tournaments once a week is probably not going to help you get used to the bad beats. I joined a micro stakes competition organized by pocketfives over the summer and joined two other players to form a team. This was my first experience multi-tabling for long periods of time. I was 10 tabling and was playing my ass off during the competition. Long story short....our team did not win, but I learned how to deal with MTT deep runs for little return. I had played long hours of live cash games in the past, but this micro comp gave me some insight into how to deal with MTTs. I would recommend trying something like a competition at your stake if you have the time. Best of luck, sir.

multi tabling, the beats are easier to take

you just deal with it...you're not gonna win every tournament. you're not gonna win every tourney you final table. you're not gonna win every tournament when there are 20 people left. your'e gonna get bad beat with 2 tables left for a LOT of chips sometimes
hopefully you suck out with 2 tables left sometimes too, and you win a tourney or two

Do you mean you played 4 MTTs in total?
That's a tiny, teeny, weeny sample - you need to play a lot more. -

hahaha, weed sucks
tbh, even if you put in a shitload of volume by playing 25 tourneys a day, you will still lose those tourneys and after 2 months your down like 4 k, hopefully somewere around that time you bink something and show pofit after,
its just standard to go trough crappy periods, lose alot of moneys everyday for weeks or months, ones you got some profit mabey it hurts less when you miss a deep run,
just be sure your not playing too high for the money you have, it hurts alot to go broke and not being able to play back your money at all,
so say you have a 3k bankrol, keep playing 20$ tournements and under, if you have 1.5k, dont play higher then 10$ tourneys -
I told someone the other day u have to be a little sick in the head if not a lot to play mtts for a living..and I stand by that

I'm in the worst downswing of my poker "career", after having the best upswing, and this thread helps.
So fucking frustrating.
