  1. G'day -

This was a live event, with 400 runners and 10K starting stack. Blinds start at 25/50 and increase every 15 minutes with no antes. The hand in question is with only 4 players left:

    Payouts are:
    1st $8K
    2nd $5K
    3rd $3K
    4th $2K

    UTG with about 1.3 million
    Button has 300K
    I'm in SB with 700K
    BB has about 1.7 million

Blinds are 75k/150k and probably about 5 minutes before going up to 100k/200k.

BB is the only player in question in this hand and my read is that he is very tight with shoving and calling a shove, but does like to see cheap flops.

    UTG folds
    Button shoves for 300K.

I have AA in the SB. If I shove to isolate and win, I'm still the short stack of the three remaining players.

I chose to simply call the 300K which is the equivalent of a min-raise. My thinking is that I wanted to sucker some money out of the BB and also hope he hits top pair and puts more money in when I cbet any flop. I had been pretty liberal with my shoves so I believe the BB would put me on a marginal hand by my calling. Also I figured if the BB does suck out and win the hand, then I still finish third anyway.

Results shouldn't matter, but BB did call and hit two pair and I finished in third.

I'm still happy with the way I played the hand but would like to hear other opinions.

Thanks from the bottom side of the planet,

    Tom

  3. you just gotta shove. guy only shoved 2bbs and you only have 3.5, get it in vs one hand.

  4. I can see your logic, unfortunate for you it didn't work out. When you do this you are prepared to bust out or chip up. but remember pairs do do better heads up. Just shove with such a tiny stack. I did something similar ( but with 18bbd) at a final table recently and also wound up third. Just shove to isolate shorty, Win the hand and you are pretty close to second place.
  5. How far down the river did you make it? The further down the river I go with AA the scarier I get, especially when there is a lot of betting going on.

  6. playing aa at any stage of the tourney is exactly the same to me, i only ever want to be up against 1 opponent, so imo shove it and hope and even if the bb calls then you can pray along with the hope
