Tyrus Thomas and LaMarcus Aldridge will likely go 1 and 2. Both should really be staying another year in college but talent is so thin in the draft... they had to come out.
Some of the other projected top 10 (not necesarilly in this order):
Andrea Bargnani
Adam Morrison
Rudy Gay
Brandon Roy
Randy Foye
Would these guys have even been top 20 in the previous 3 years?? -
One mock I looked at has Andrea Bargnani going ahead of Tyrus. Way ahead.
I have to do more research to find out, but I think you are right, that we don't have any sure-fire All-Stars like past years. -
This draft is 90x better than last year's draft. This might even be an above average draft if Tyrus Thomas can be as good as Dwight Howard his first couple years.
Check out nbadraft.net They have Aldridge going 8th I think to Boston. He didn't look dominating at all in the tournament game I watched. He was way too passive. I think he'll suck. -
Yeah...
Apparently Bargnani has a game somewhere between Dirk and Pau. Sounds solid. -
what about JJ?
-
That's a nice site.
-
90x better than last year... no way.
Soon to be all-stars from last year:
Andrew Bogut
Chris Paul (hall of famer)
Deron Williams
Channing Frye
Need some time but will end up solid as well:
Marvin Williams
Sean May
Joey Graham
Danny Granger
Francisco Garcia
I agree about Aldridge though Gig... think he's gonna be a bust. Wouldn't be surprised if T Thomas was too. -
I don't know, but I think this may have been the worst draft. Tony Parker and Gilbert Arenas were picked later on to give the class of '01 some credibility, but overall very weak.
http://www.nba.com/draft2001/draft_b...nav=TextNavBar
And BTW, Tyrus Thomas = Stromole Swift .. same school, same type of player, same career -
I like Bogut, but I have a feeling he'll never be more than a 12-9 guy. That's good for a center these days, but that's not something you want when you're taking the first pick.
Chris Paul and Charlie Villanueva are the two best players from last year. I think they're the only sure fire future All-Stars.
A lot of these guys (granger, graham, may) are going to be good, but they're not going to be great. I don't see any of them ever average 22 point a game or anything like that. Deron Williams looked awful most of last season.
Who knows about Marvin Williams.
This year's draft could have plenty of impact players. I think Marcus Williams is going to be very good and Brandon Roy might be the best out of all of them 20 years from now. You never know with any draft, but I think any of the top 9 picks here (http://www.nbadraft.net/) could be legitimate all-stars one day. -
Deron Williams averaged 11 / 4.5 / 1 last year in less than 30 minutes per game on a weak team... Not bad for a rookie. He's got that Mark Jackson style of ball control that I think will keep him in the mix for a long time. Needs to shoot better but will come with experience.
Brandon Roy is definitely the man! Rudy Gay I'm not sure about... he's had so much hype the last few years and just doesn't seem to have the extra push. Will be interesting to see how he turns out. -
1.21 you scumbag, Mrvin will pwn, he plays in Atl we need something, another Nique at least. On the contrary how about the Draft class with Lebron and D-wade as the best ever? How about that pick by Detroit, I know Darco was the next Dirk and all, but looking at that top 5 and seeing Darco going #2 is pretty funny at this point.

Go Pope???? -
One reason that this draft may not be up to par with others is that HS players are going to college, well, they're going to ohio st. to be precise. BUT, there are a lot of sleepers in this draft, for example some projected to go early: Rodney Carney, Maurice Ager; then others later in the draft: Hassan Adams, Leon Powe, Allen Ray, Guillermo Diaz (WAIT TO YOU SEE THIS KID JUMP)....This draft will have a bunch of the leagues new type of players, the Big SG, SF type of players like Garnett: Gay, Thomas, Morrison, Roy, Aldridge (more of a PF type though), etc.. Every draft has their stars and suprises, we'll see.
-
GO POPE!!!!!
-
Had this debate with a friend awhile back when I said it was weak and he said no way
Looking at it closer it does seem weaker at the very top but it has a lot of depth and real solid players who will go second round. McNamara, Darius Washington, Hassan Adams, Daniel Gibson, Allen Ray, ETC. Comparing that to the second round of 2005 or other years and it stacks up VERY nicely talent wise. -
The draft is weak but Morrison will be a superstar...I'll be shocked if he's not scoring 25 a game within a few years.
-
Biased much?
-
gay much?
-
I dunno...
Not sold on Morrison as I was burned by KVH when I thought he was gonna be the next Bird. Morrison could end up being a poor-man's Van Horn which is beyond poverty stricken.
I hope he does well though... DIABETES represent!!! -
I don't get why everyone wants to compare white players to other white players. On one hand, the comparisons to Larry Bird are sound because Morrison models his game after Bird. On the other hand, they're absurd because Bird was possibly the 2nd best player in history and to compare someone who has never played an NBA game to him is crazy. Morrison isn't nearly the all-around player that Bird was, he simply plays a similar style offensively, has a similar drive to win and wants the ball with the game on the line.
Morrison is pretty unique and I don't think he's a blueprint of anyone currently playing in the NBA, but Rip Hamilton is the best comparison I can think of. They're both great at moving without the ball, they both have a tremendous midrange game, they're both great finishers, they both handle the ball well and they both can score from anywhere. -
And if you read and believe the words he is saying, please remember the #1 player in his eyes ahead of Bird is the one, the only, Dan Dickau.....He says so on the forum he gets paid to post at.
GG Objectivity. -
Actually I said Eddie House was the #1 player of all-time.
