pocketfives has this neat little trick when the pic is too fucking big... click on it, grab a corner
and resize the mutherfucker! -
assuming the baseball pic isn't photoshopped, definitely sick
-
that lady who voted is SFhappy
-
bad aim?
-
the story behind the pic is that dude was asleep as he obv had night shift duties but awoke as they were being attacked and just grabbed his gear and ran out to help defend...
Im sure there is more to it, but that is all I recall -
looking foward, thanks for posting this..very cool pics!
-
Yeah you can tell they were all probably sleeping and got rushed out to there posts ASAP cuz the other two soldiers are wearing tennis shoes and lol @ them for having Kevlar helmets and no flack jackets, they had to be in a hella rush.
-
#39 made me cry. Also #2 is so powerful seeing as how this woman went through the civil rights era and now seeing a black man elected...very moving.
-
it looks like there are flak jackets w/assualt packs attached... they prolly removed that uncomfortable neck piece and all that side/shoulder crap.
-
My son is in Afghanistan and #39 scares the shit out of me.
-
Thanks, have been waiting for this...I posted it last year, always an incredible collection.
-
Thanks, I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Just looked through all the photos, and, this one was by far my favorite:

Two bullet holes in the door with the blood leaking out. Obv a pretty morbid scene, but, imo a great photo.
It's like, the scenario itself isn't particularly unique or special or anything, tons of people die in this exact manner every year. The thing that makes it a great photo is that it's pretty rare to have the story told so obviously/fully in one single shot where you have both the bullet marks in the door and the blood leaking out of the car all in one photo frame like that.
Lots of other great photos in there too though. Good compilation. -

this pic is crazy! Doesn't even look real... -
Unless your in a unit that doesnt give a f Im sure your not allowed to remove that stuff in country from my experiences but than again there so far outside the wire they can just do there own thing sometimes. It just seems so small? Its normally bulky as fuck with the front, rear and side sappi plates

Here's a link to all the World Press Photo Of The Year photo's from 1955 to 2008 btw:
http://www.archive.worldpressphoto.org/years
Almost all the pics are of horrific/tragic stuff unfortunately.
I think it would be better if they broke it into two categories: Tragic Press Photo of the Year, and Non-Tragic Press Photo of the Year. That way we could see what the best non-fucked up photo from each year was too. Oh wells.
Anyway, some of the photos that stood at the most from the press photo of the year photos:
1962 World Press Photo of the Year:

1963 World Press Photo of the Year:
Burning meditating protestor monk (too graphic to post directly imo)
http://www.archive.worldpressphoto.o...oord/year/1963
1979 World Press Photo of the Year:

1980 World Press Photo of the Year:

1989 World Press Photo of the Year:

Imo, this one^^^^ takes the cake. Press photo of the century imo.
